CERES NEWS | sweet sorghum and high biomass sorghum in focus BLADE ® Tour program Ceres Seeds

(translated version)

Company organizes technical roadmap municipalities in the agricultural frontier of cane sugar to show the productive potential of hybrid BLADE ®

Campinas ( SP ) - The crew of Ceres Seeds Brazil began at the end of March its BLADE ® Tour program. The initiative is aimed at presenting in more than 40 areas in Brazil , the line of new products and future releases in Sweet Sorghum Blade for production of ethanol and energy (bagasse ) and High Biomass Sorghum Blade for power generation and heat ( combustion ) .

For the Blade Tour , strategic partners as the sugarcane industry plants , biomass consuming industries and technical consultants are being invited .

The meetings focus mainly agronomic practices and feasibility of utilization of sorghum Blade line in addition to raw materials already used by sectors , thus seeking to increase productivity and availability of new solutions for both and for Biomass Ethanol .

So far companies have participated as Delta Plant , Plant New Gaul , Plant Pound , Ester Mill , Mill White Peres , Cutrale among others .

The BLADE ® Tour program takes place in about 20 municipalities in the states of São Paulo , Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and Minas Gerais . The goal is to increase the scope of the program after crop harvest , demonstrating the gains in productivity that culture can offer through high investment in local improvement that Ceres is developing in Brazil .

Ceres Seeds Brazil is a subsidiary of North American Ceres Inc. . The company is completing four years of Brazil until June and will conclude its commercial crop hybrids of sorghum Sweet Sorghum and High Biomass Blade Blade .

Holds one of the largest banks in the world sorghum germplasm , Ceres invests heavily to consolidate their hybrids as new energy matrices of ethanol production and biomass energy in the country

In more than 40 areas, including commercial and research , the leading companies in the sugarcane industry could learn and test the line Sorghum Blade , whose Ethanol for industrial processing occurs in plants during the off season of cane sugar and biomass can be used in this period or be stored . These hybrids act as supplementary feedstock , says Wagner Seara , sales manager.

With respect to ethanol , a projection of Datagro - recently released by a news agency - indicates that the cultivation of sweet sorghum can add to the numbers of the Brazilian sugarcane industry , each year , a volume within 3500 and 5000 liters of biofuel per hectare. Nowadays , this ratio would be equivalent to an increase of 5 billion gallons of ethanol in the market - domestic production is around 25 billion liters / year.

Regarding the high biomass hybrid BLADE ® now marketed by Ceres, the company emphasizes that the product today has 23 % fiber in its composition and potential average productivity of up to 42 tonnes per hectare at 50 % moisture .

Season 2013/14 - According to the area of ??Genetic Improvement of Ceres Brazil , the harvest in progress promising results are expected in different regions of the country , as indicators of ethanol production per hectare of sweet sorghum hybrids with Blade ® .

The high biomass sorghum crop also walks favorably. According to the company , tests and surveys indicate even have excellent market potential to extend the use of hybrid Blade ® plus power plants : in the food, citrus , cold and grains , for example , among others that employ biomass as a source for generating heat and power .

The sorghum reproductive cycle is of the order of 100 to 150 days. Exactly happens in the offseason cane . The coincidences between these plants , by the way , are surprising: both have excellent potential energy resulting from the accumulation of sugars , for example. The equipment used in sugar cane , harvesting and processing, are practically the same as those required for the management of sorghum hybrids .
