If you reread my posts carefully, you will find I have never said that MERS makes camels sick, nor that NNVC should be focused on MERS and camels. I did respond in a general way to some other posts, not challenging their assumptions.

To me the MERS and Saudi connection has always been about MERS and human cases of MERS connected to the Kingdom. The Saudi's have always been concerned about image. They also have many Islamic holy sites which draw tens of millions of Muslims every year. The Saudi's have benefited from the tourism aspect, but nowadays it is much more about image and prestige than money. I'm guessing, they will spend whatever, as long as they can find answers to MERS related questions.

One important aspect about the Hajj in Mecca, is that it brings millions of people into close proximity for brief time periods. A great environment for the spread of disease. Couple this aspect with the fact that millions of these people stay briefly, then get on planes to destinations all over the globe. This has to raise red flags to health officials.

All interesting. There may be no NNVC connection at all presently. Or maybe there is. I don't know. But this situation plays well into NNVC's strengths.
