There are several critical issues that a local OS addresses that a cloud-based OS does not. As such, I don't see local OS's going the way of the dinosaur any time soon.

* Connectivity. You have to be always be connected to the cloud to access your data. What if you're working from a location with no internet connectivity?
* Security. You're trusting that your data is stored securely on the cloud.
* Latency. Glassware's solution is more elegant than the competition, but what Glassware doesn't have control over is the network connection of the end point/end user. How is the end user connected to the internet? What ISP? Are they wired in or using Wi-fi at a location with alot of wireless interference? All this can impact the end user's experience with Glassware.

In fact, technology evolved away from what was called a "dumb terminal" back in the 1980's because of these very issues outlined above. Today, we see a hybrid between local processing on local hardware such as a laptop, tablet, mobile device, or desktop computer and cloud-based processing.

Some app developers are now using cross-platform tools to publish their apps across multiple platforms. They would develop in one environment (iOS, Android, .NET/Microsoft, etc), and then use one of the many cross-platform tools available to publish across to other platforms automatically without having to re-work/re-code.
