The end results would be equal. Android devices have the capability to install apps outside the marketplace, iPhones however are locked with no way to install apps manually unless jailbroken or registered as a beta tester with Apple.
All apps in the store work equivalently on both factory & jailbroken devices. All jailbroken phones can be reverted to factory with a simple software reset.
Either way, this is likely what Ed will do which is host a beta test party

All a jailbroken device needs is the file without registering with Apple, I will test on both factory & JB so I can send money back & forth to myself....
