You said it right, some people get "trained" as you said (whatever that means) to take small gains. Constantly flipping all the time is what gives people money to take your wife/gf out to dinner. Real money is made long term regardless of whether it is pennies or blue chips. Everyone who wants to make 3-5k good form them, but that is not a real profit. Nice things on the horizon I believe.
