The sound of an overdriven (not 'clipped') guitar amp is totally different to the sound of your hi-fi clipping. The former is 'soft' clipping usually provided by an overdriven class A valve amp, not like you're hi-fi amp at all.

The loudest peaks on mixed recordings tend to be the drums, so if anything overloads your stereo it'll be them, not the guitars. It's very easy to spot the difference, even w/o golden ears.
