LaDamian Thompson to get right knee Scoped................. (Not true) How many of us understand the meaning of that first sentence? The word Scoped is part of our every day vernacular. Thirty years ago as a young man that grew up prior to Orthoscopic Surgery, I watched many a friend get a minor injury but receive a major surgery, ending all athletic dreams. The concept of making a small incision, running a bundle of optic fibers attached to a small lens, and accompanying it by a laser or small cutting device to perform a tissue repair was dumbfounding and impossible.
Today as some of the local College or Pro athletes are injured with small tears, detachments or cleanup requirements, they get “Scoped”. I would wager 90 plus percent of you understand what “scoped” infers. It is a common procedure, for common folks, and a common part of our language. My father, a common man, had a knee Scope twenty years ago. Do you think the folks that invented and patented and invested in Scoping made some sheckels?
Where will Tissue Welding sit historically? I told a good friend about the technology yesterday. He said it sounded like a Star Trek episode. In thirty years it will sit in the same realm as Scoped. This is an historic procedure IMO. No infection, no scar, less healing time, no allergic reactions, no stitches and more capable internally. Worldwide rights? Yea. Yes, this is a story stock. But only the “short” sighted don’t realize where this is headed. In five years it will be an extreme value play. Oh, there is also the LFG thrown in for fun.
