NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. stock market opened higher on Wednesday with investors focused on earnings from retailers such as Target Corp (TGT) and Tiffany & Co. (TIF) and speeches from several Federal Reserve officials, including Fed chairwoman Janet Yellen. Investors await the minutes from the latest Federal Open Market Committee meeting due at 2 p.m. Eastern for clues about the first rate hike. The S&P 500 (SPX) opened 6 points, or 0.3%, higher at 1,879.14. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) added 60 points, or 0.4%, to 16,433.58 at the open. The Nasdaq Composite (RIXF) began the day 12 points, or 0.3%, higher at 4,108.61.
