I'm connecting the dots here but....... I've always wondered about the name "Spiderpillar". The name itself doesn't really resonate with me, it's not catchy and I've never really understood the significance of the word "pillar". Ok it may help to indicate strength but I can think of better words to use. However Kim is adamant that he's holding onto it, probably for good reason.

This leads me to think that the word itself could have more significance than I realised. These days, with natural stone being used less and less, if we build a pillar we generally build it from concrete, typically reinforced. Reinforcing with steel provides a very inexpensive means of massively increasing the tensile strength of the pillar.

Now we have all read the quotes regarding the addition of metallic ions to our silk (plus I believe these quotes are as old as Kim's insistence on keeping hold of the name Spiderpillar). You heard it here first, my prediction is that Spiderpillar is a totally new fibre that has had metallic ions added. I also believe we will hear about this new fibre soon :) happy days!
