longjon, i had a reply all typed out when this computer went down, very strange thing, black screen, don't know why ... spent two hours making phone calls while fixing it, not sure it's working quite right now .... anyway, it went like this -

gng.v - that was a loser for me too, just the common, i never seriously considered the warrants because it was pure exploration, the risk is great on those already, never mind adding time decay .... gng looked like a reasonable bet, and it was, they just got skunked on those holes, is all .... it's back on my watchlist now, along with Sultan sul.v

More enduring warrants can be found with Wheaton, five-year term, strike 1.65 ... there was an arbitrage opportunity going between the two models, wrm.wt and wrm.wt.a, i took advantage of that, and traded the original model before the others came out .... don't have much of either right now, fair bit of the common though

Exercise of warrants benefits the project because it gets money into the treasury ... that's what i was thinking in saying that ... it's not like put and call options, which are a zero-sum game between third parties .... not even that, in fact, because of the friction loss in commissions ...... and i was thinking more of the warrants for .90 or so that expire this summer, there are more of them than of the listed ones .... those, ngt.wt, yes i wouldn't mind breaking even on them -g- ... but if not, c'est la guerre ... big thing that matters, is what happens with the common

Alamos is probably above 25% of what i have in stocks right now, so it's not that far from your allocation ... by far the largest position .... i only diddle in stocks really, small portion of net worth for about three years now

Norma - can't give advice of course, but what i would do if i had no gold stocks right now, would be to buy some ... yeller dawg has put on four dollars ten so far this fine afternoon - http://online.kitco.com/scripts/cgi-bin/texten.pl
... but if it was any amount, i would split it up, not all in one basket .... Wheaton is not a bad deal either, imho, that's wht.amex to you .... Claude might just have something in that aqi.v play, dunno, it's getting a tich pricey now ... but he's got an ultimately near-sure winner in ckg.v, which might get a fair bit cheaper in the meantime, but it might not, too .... me i would put the largest slice in agi.v today, that's a fact, but not all of it .... pennies here or there don't matter so much, but be careful about buying on the open, especially on those pinks, they say [and limit orders only, but you know that] .... Moydow moy.to, there's another, things gonna happen there, or not, as the case may be [check out the frustrated stuckholders-g-]

Got to go, had a much more organised post before .... the better response to amarksp's question of how the government comes into the approval equation might have been, 'i don't know' .... because that's not my business, my experience is limited to issues specific to our area, way down in the southeast, it's another world, no mining .... general impression - it's not simple, many agencies will get their say in the matter, big bureaucratic jungle just like in British Columbia or wherever ... maybe not quite that bad, though, and remember that M and McC have been doing this for a while now, and have hired some competent locals .... anyway, later, cheers all

[edit] - while on the phone i sold my interest in several cows down south, not sure how many exactly and therein lies a story ... sell another four, and i'll be all hat and no cattle, and about time too! -g-
