I suppose they could have gotten current, to fade away, to disappear, to die, to declare bankruptcy.

That would be like buying your wife a new Audi RS just before divorcing her. Why would you do it ?

Why would you go to the ( not insignificant ) effort and expense to get current, just to declare bankruptcy -- to disappear the company.
