In a previous life I worked for IBM and was an expert in inventory management (forecasting and logistics) before most people had ever heard of it. There are a number of factors involved in controlling your inventory but probably the most important is knowing your sales history. If you have a product with no or little sales history, growing sales and a long lead time, it's very difficult to keep it in stock. If it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get your product from China and your sales are growing exponentially, you have to be able to predict what your sales will be in 6 to 8 weeks plus how many days supply you want to keep on hand. It's a constantly moving target.

I think Paul is using this time to build up sales history so that they can put together a workable and efficient retail program.
