The winter wheat numbers should come under the most scrutiny, after the crop suffered from winterkill and long-term drought on the southwest Plains. Production could drop to 1.44 billion bushels, the smallest crop since 2002. And if rains promised for the second week of May don't arrive, losses could mount.
