Be careful what you wish for. IF Intel was to drop the Itanium, it wouldn't be at this point. But, if and when they do, they certainly would have a solution in the wings. Given the APX432, I wouldn't put it past them. I guarantee, it's not beyond their thinking.

If their intent was(is?) to drive AMD out of competition, one way to do it would be to supply Itanium customers with devices as planned and also deliver something like Yamhill+ or P5. I don't think AMD would fare well in this situation...
