I think that's a fair comparison, antivirus keeps things running smoothly, while keeping a proactive stance; sigmas software is quality-assurance-based...making sure things run properly. Intel seeks to make things faster...sigma isn't here to make lightning fast AM, although I guess the overall process would be faster having been checked sufficiently with one pass. Personally, don't think it's a bad thing or downgrade
