Dimension's codec patent mentions upscaling only briefly, but it sounds odd. Instead of upscaling, one instead compresses a higher resolution version of the video. But if I already had a high-res version, why not just show that instead? And that is not how the VDK worked... I remember having to enable a "zoom" setting when compressing a video.
