And How Does a Free Service Generate Revenue?
Look I'm not here to bash. Trust me folks, I'm an @APL shareholder from 2003. I also used to post on the Yahoo boards back then and endured some harshness to say the least, so I get the disdain but I'm trying to raise logical points, unlike the unfounded lies that were/are posted about Apple (Jobs "selling" 1/2 his position in 2005 when he was really retiring shares for tax purposes, iPod being a "fad" that generated billions in profit and created a halo effect to sell other products, among some of the less outrageous but still stupid claims from back in the day).

I'm trying to be objective with FB.
Where does this "biggest telecom company" come from with a free messaging service like WhatsApp? There's ten other WhatsApp apps, zero proprietary technology, and it's free. FB can't charge a dime for WhatsApp because just like FaceBook, customers will just bail the second they get charged for something that has been free for years.

Advertising on WhatsApp? Yeah right!

And then there's the competitors.....Apple being one.....Google....and the worst of all AT&T, Verizon and the already established telecoms who are also the providers of the web or cell service.

Maybe the drone beaming Internet isn't such a bad idea but who knows how realistic that will be. That's some serious R&D to get that project off the ground.

At least buying WhatsApp makes for 1 less competitor in a nasty telecom market.
