Special report: Wood pellets fuel Maine’s economy

A few years back when the price of heating oil surged, many Mainers flocked to a relatively unknown type of fuel alternative, wood pellets.

As little as five years ago, Maine had just one pellet-producing plant. Today, there are four with plans on the table to build more.
