For a period of 3.5 months, no TD Ameritrade customer could purchase AMBS shares, although selling was allowed. Transfers of AMBS shares from TD Ameritrade to other brokers was also not permitted. For TDA customers, the only option to purchase shares was to open a brokerage account with a different broker. The reason for the chill remained a mystery to shareholders and even to the company for many weeks, compounding the problem. Hard to fix something when the DTCC won't tell you what the problem is. The chill was already in effect before the filing deadline had passed, so it was clearly unrelated to the late filing of the 10-K.
