The added benefit of paying a professional 3rd party is purchasing insurance to protect consumers. Ed will have to have insurance in case hackers compromise security & steal $ out of people's bank accounts, or any other unforeseen glitch. I'd think having paid a 3rd party would take any liability away from Ed on the insurance claim if there ever was one.
