Beyond having to get the box out sooner rather than later in order to kep Netflix et al from grabbing up all the early adopter ink, releasing the box now, on the heels of their successful showing with Akamai at NAB builds momentum, in a way that won't be easy to replicate a few years or a month down the road.
So retooling the device now robs you of that early ink and throws away an opportunity to build on top of the sucessful PR push that they achieved at NAB.
And the slightly shinier OS isn't a good enough reason to do that.
You know what would have been a good enough reason to do that? If they'd managed to get h.265 to work on the Tegra 4, and could show superior quality at lower bitrates. I'd accept a delay for that, but I think it's a given now that the chip can't handle the computational load of h.265.
In additional, to the extent that NTEK cares about what's being said about it on this forum (and Mr. Taylor's outburst last night here is rather proof of that, I think), the delay at this time just gives more ammunition to the "Martin-Shorties". Is that a good plan, when they could've shut the bears down for a good long time with an actual product release?
What's he got again Martin Short, anyway? Steal his girl in high school, something like that?
