DABOSS ... Re: Odyssey 1000 ...

When I was reading this write-up ...

Neuros HD MP3 -- B
The Neuros impresses with its built-in FM radio, playlist-creation feature, and ability to record MP3s through its microphone (great for recording meetings). Its killer feature, though, is a built-in transmitter that sends audio to a nearby FM receiver -- perfect for playback in your car or on a boombox or home stereo system. There are problems, however: The sound quality is mediocre, the controls are not intuitive, and the Neuros connects through the relatively poky USB 1.1 standard. $400; 20GB; 866-563-8767; neurosaudio.com (Windows only; USB 1.1)

... it reminded me of a recent discussion I had with Robert about this "killer feature", and the design problem they had with the first units shipped. In fact, they had to fix the problem and replace all those units with newer ones. When I mentioned this to Robert, and referred to the FM transmitter as their patented "MyFi", he thought I said "WiFi". I said, no, they call it "MyFi", and I specifically asked him if we would have a similar feature as a menu item for our Odyssey 1000 ... he said, "No", mentioning the instability of the FM frequencies, or something like that ... anyway, I got the distinct impression that this was not high-tech enough to even be considered a menu item for our jukebox platform. He continued on indicating that they were working on "WiFi" and "Bluetooth" applications, but in retrospect, I don`t know if he meant in conjunction with the O-1000, or not. I also learned that even Bluetooth comes in "different flavors" according to Robert, so decisions for OEM`s just considering the various wireless protocols can`t be all the easy.

So, nothing major to report here, but I have been wondering if you, or anybody else, might care to comment as to the usefulness of wireless connectivity for the O-1000 ... would it be something you would want, if it meant paying a little extra ?? Just for the record, I don`t own an MP3 player yet ... I`m going to wait until we come out with the smaller version utilizing the 1.8" HD..

TIA
