I have never shorted a stock so I have a question that I am sure someone on this board knows and I do not want to Google it. When a person covers their short position they are buying back the shares the "sold." Do they now actually own those shares when they cover and are there any restrictions on them turning around and reselling them? That almost make no sense but maybe someone can clarify.
