Bottom line is this
It is true that Titan SPORT will not replace Davinci. Most urologists will continue to use the 4 arm robot because it does offer some advantages. But what is going on in healthcare right now is massive consolidation and cost cutting. Large hospitals are buying small neighboring ones. The larger institutions want the big cases done at their hospitals. They do not want the smaller hospitals to "take" cases away from them but they want added value. SPORT fits so well into this scheme. The larger hospital systems will be more inclined to buy a less expensive secondary robot for the smaller hospitals within the system. That way they can keep the lions share of big cases at the main hospital and add value in the form of more robotic cases at the secondary institutions. Don't know if it will play out this way but it is one possibility.
Or maybe SPORT will come out of this as the superior preferred robot and they will shift their "old" davinci robots to the smaller hospital and buy only SPORTs for themselves.
Just want to point out that the surgery center is not the only place for SPORT to thrive. Hospitals are in a massive state of flux and consolidation. There is plenty of room for Titan especially with the current healthcare marketplace.
