HFT's are not good by any means... They can be viewed as a person hacking into your bank account and charging a penny per each transaction. HFT only profit off buyers that are slower, meaning if BAA had no volume then the HFT would have no use for it.
I don't think the market will have to force regulations on HFT as exchanges will probably step up and slow down HFT so even the playing field.
