Many companies have a different symbol on different exchanges. I've traded canadian, australian and israeli stocks for years. When you trade direct thru the foreign exchange you pay tax to that country as well as US tax. There's less tax when you trade it thru an exchange in your home country.
Many TSX stocks trade in the US with corresponding tickers on the OTC.
