upc, you misunderstood me (probably my fault, given my verbiage). Sun is not likely to drop Opteron. However, I do see an end to them giving Opteron their undivided attention, and I cannot fathom at this point a joint Sun-AMD relationship towards high end computing. Opteron will simply be another line in Sun's lineup of increasingly ubiquitous x86. IPF may even be another flavor that gains momentum as Sparc loses it.
