ARM and Intel Custom Foundry have announced an agreement to accelerate the development and implementation of ARM SoCs on Intel’s 10nm process
Now there's a surprise!
Some foundry customers would be nice to have...
Bozo
You gone off into fairy tale land.
I recommend you get over it. It's long over.
Bozo
This reminds me of A statement made by one Bro: ~ "Intel did not bribe Dell, because they gave them back their own money"
And according to you, the Government bribes you when they return your tax refund...
Years ago there was a video of an AMD laptop bursting into flames. It was great fodder but didn't, as you say, move the needle.
This is fodder. They've waited a long time for this. I say let them have their feed.
Lisa .... what's not to like?
So far not much to criticize but we know virtually nothing about Zen at this point. They have silicon with at least some functionality. That's about all we know.
U still making yer own beer, Lager?
Gave it up. It's a lot of work making Lagers. A whole lot more than Ales and Trader Joe's has a large selection of their own craft Lagers that are excellent, nearly as good as I can make at home and they're only $1 a bottle. Only down side is I have to drive 2 1/2 hours each was to get to a TJs.
Andy
I tend to agree with a previous poster who said AMD's management deserves the benefit of the doubt. They have behaved in a manner which deserves a reset of my opinion of them. The problem I see is, like you said, their lack of resources to fight a two front war against different and well funded competitors. I've lost track of the cross license status between Intel and AMD. They may be free now to entertain a buyout?

What is with the hero worship for AMD CEOs..
Every cult must have a leader to worship.
AMD has guided to cash & equivalents of between $600M to $1 billion as well as to actually be FCF positive for the year
AMD has a habit of overly optimistic forecasts.
Bozo, Andy
Can't you guys do a Google search just as easily as anyone else?

they were not sold, they were bought
Every transaction has a buyer and a seller.

expecting a rally here
on Friday a sharp option trader bought 10000 sept 25 calls for .83 cents
Maybe so but you could also say:
Not expecting a rally here on Friday a sharp option trader sold 10000 sept 25 calls for .83 cents.

The feature size in the name of processes, particularly from
the big foundry guys, is completely devoid of physical meaning
these days and is basically made up marketing BS.
Exactly.
I would still go by ION, IOFF, metal pitch, gate pitch and sram size.
Unkwn
I doubt Intel will be leading process development this time
I doubt comparisons have any meaning anymore.
Bozo
I don't think neutral is going to make you popular around here
Why would anyone care? Intel doesn't compete with AMD in the Graphics arena. I'm neutral between AMD and Nvidia.
selling AMD puts actually IS slightly bullish
Who's to say? I'm not limited by others definitions.
Bozo
You guys are really feeling your oats right now but I'll remind you this is just a remake. We've seen this movie before a couple of times. How pumped up were the Faithful when AMD was in the $40s?
I'll admit, AMD's current Management doesn't seem to display the despicable behavior of the past. For that they deserve credit, but the current share strength is still based on hype and the undelivered promise of Zen. Nvidia is now their competition and I don't have a dog in that fight, so I'm neutral. I don't expect Zen to be competitive so the question is, can AMD survive on graphics alone?
Parts is Parts...
To many people have taken things personally. As long as we are civil all views should be welcome, imo.
I posted the ratio several times months ago and recommended AMD. No one payed me to do that. Anyone could have taken my advise.
I see no problem with you expressing your opinion here. God knows some of us have done the same thing on AMD boards.
Mas hasn't posted since March. I wonder whatever happened to wbmw?
Intel beats by 6 cents
I think that this is a plant that GF bought from IBM
You mean the plant IBM paid GF to take.
IBC
Seems like pretty weak reasoning there
What else can you do when you have a weak case?
Notice: I have put Flumoxed on ignore. Any posts from him that are off topic can be reported to me by PM.
Koog
Moderators do not have the ability to ban posters.
Can't you put him on ignore?
flem
Please take this to another board.
Baaaahhhhh
It was Intel's behavior before Core that was reprehensible
No it wasn't. That's your fantasy.
While all this was happening AMD was admitting internally that their products were junk and no one in their right mind would buy them. You expect OEM's to buy unreliable, low quality junk? The fact that Dell agreed with AMD's own self appraisal does not make Intel the bad guy. Intel followed the law. You're just a sore loser.
This is off topic. Time to drop it.
Bozo
Intel has agreed not to do it again
Are you back to this decade old whine again?
Intel did nothing illegal. They agreed to not do what they didn't do in the first place. Who wouldn't if it gets regulators off your back? I'll agree to not rob banks in the future. That doesn't make me a bank robber.
What about that little incident with you and the barnyard animals? No witness would come forth but then the sheep can't talk anyway... Here people can talk. No one has. No witness anywhere in the world have ever testified under oath where they could be cross examined that Intel broke the law. It's a myth that you cling to like it was your most valuable possession. Why? What is so important that you can't get over it?
Generations have passed. Intel's gone through 3 CEOs and AMD's gone through 4. You should move on.
TCAE
Don't forget Tejas!
ibc
Maybe with sufficient volume they'll convert it to an Intel process?
Chipguy
It makes no sense to lose money with a customer that will drop you in an instant to save a penny.
With an under utilization problem, maybe it means Intel will lose less?
II
That's certainly good news if true. We've heard this rumor a few times before. Maybe it will eventually work out.
IPA has been banished from the internet:
Remarkable how flem and fpg both like IPA and both want to argue incessantly. Do you think there might be a connection?
IPA has not been banned anywhere afaik. I wouldn't drink it if my life depended on it but that's just me. I think adults should be free to drink bile if they so choose. Who am I to judge?
flem
you're the one who chose never to explain to me bla bla bla
Buzz off. The board doesn't want to hear it.
Tenchu
Then what's the point of quoting it if you don't believe in it?
The goal is to argue, not to reach any meaningful conclusion.
fpg
I think the board would like to get back on topic here.
fpg
99% of scientists agree that climate change is real and if we don't do something, life on earth as we know it ends..
No they don't but 99% of AMD fanbotz agree that Parts is Parts.
fpg
Don't waste my time with nonsense.
Parts is Parts

I don't see any value is arguing with a rude arrogant fool.

I'll take Dyson's word on the science over yours any day.
