If you are still in the gambling phase of your net worth building then AMD may be worth a shot, it has a greater than zero chance of success. Or you could just play it on the craps table in Vegas. The advantage of choosing Vegas is they give you free drinks...

I did an analysis of AMD's chances here. It boilded down to this:
1) What are the chances of AMD actually telling the truth?
2) What are the chances of AMD actually delivering on a promise?
3) What are the chances of AMD meeting a schedule?
4) What are the chances of GloFo getting a process working on time?
5) What are the chances of AMD bringing up a new extremely complex design on a new unproven process at an unreliable foundry?
The actual list has 4 or 5 more entries but it's essentially our version of the Drake Equation.
I concluded the chances are low.

Thanks for this post. I was starting to get worried because you almost made a little sense a couple of posts back. All is back to normal now...
I do not run anything. I merely serve my fellow posters by making sure no one is banned for having an unpopular view. AMD boards traditionally have a moderator who stands guard, ready to ban anyone who does not support the party line. That way AMD zealots can make any claims they want and they go unchallenged. Makes them feel safe.

Didn't JSIII first start yapping about focus many, many years ago? Silicon talks, BS walks
And the Believers buy it every single time. It's amazing
Each time a generation finally sees through the BS, a new generation swoops in to fill their place. Wash rinse and repeat.
Only a few extremely dense ones carry on from one generation to the next...

The GTX 970 in my i7 4790 box drives my 2560x1440 display just fine
My GTX 650 Ti drives my 30" 2560x1440 display just fine too plus my other 2 28" 1920x1200s while also running a Seti@home on the same card.
Taylor said that AMD had perhaps lacked focus but its new CEO Lisa Su (October 2014) had laser focused the company on becoming a high-performance computing and graphics company - products like Zen were the result of that. Of the company 9000 employees, more than 7000 were ‘engineers’ and its main areas of focus were
No products, just more talk. We've heard it all before.
Get back to us when they have something real.

I would never bet on a loser like AMD
That's because you're not a loser.

I think you should mention to your Doctor that you're still hearing the voices.

Why did Intel agree not to do things they claimed never to have done? I am just curious. They could have had their day in court, but took the easy out
Because Intel never did it in the first place and no one had any evidence. This wasn't Intel capitulating, it was AMD, the FTC and the NYAG. They chose to settle rather than face Intel in Court.
Now as Tenchu said, install the necessary updates, reboot and join this decade. You might ask yourself why?
Bozo
When Opteron was giving Intel headaches Intel used TARGETED subsidies
Can't you give it up? I thought we put the "Parts is Parts" mentality to rest long ago.
Parts is Parts
Bozo
So essentially you're mad because Intel won legally, or better put you're simply mad because Intel won.
Tenchu
If we had an Administration with American interests in mind there would be massive investigations into European companies leading to charges, prosecution, fines and sanctions. Unfortunately we don't have that kind of administration.
fpg
"Intel lost their EU antitrust case" and "Intel gave away over $1B/q to pay for their own products' deficits
It's not surprising that the accused would be found guilty by a kangaroo court where the accused is allowed no defense. No right to confront it's accusers. No right to subpoena evidence. No right to subpoena witnesses and no right to even speak before a council of the wise that acts as investigator, prosecutor, judge and jury. Not surprising at all. Back in the US where the accuses IS allowed a defense, all Intel's accusers avoided having to prove their case by settling for pennies on the dollar in the case of AMD, backing down and settling for a slap on the wrist in the case of the FTC and cowering in the corner in the case of the NYAG. None of them dared to look like a fool in court.
As for Dell, Intel didn't pay Dell anything. Intel rebated some of Dell's money. You can't pay someone with their own money. Only the rabid AMD fanatics cling to that one. No crime so get over it. You've been crushed, stomped on and beaten into the ground on this nonsense for years. You lost. AMD lost. Nothing will ever change that.
fpg
I have no obligation to acknowledge anyone's trades, real or phony. Who cares anyway?
Now stop boring everyone with your tantrums.
fpg
I thought we put that in the past. I wasn't going to mention when you made intentionally false posts which you claimed were embedded with your secret code. Bizarre to say the least.
The fact remains, my analogy is valid. Intel was viewed by people such as yourself as the embodiment of evil and the FTC as well as AMD's cases were air tight. Yet Intel paid AMD chump change to get the problem out of their hair and the FTC essentially caved in due to lack of evidence. The NYAG was so embarrassed about his lack of evidence he quietly let the statute of limitations run out. All fully the equivalent of letting the murderer (in your eyes) walk if he simply promised not to kill anyone in the future. How embarrassing...
You lost. Get over it.
fpg
Imaging a District Attorney telling an accused murderer he had multiple witnesses swearing they saw him commit the murders. If he pleads guilty now he'll get life without the possibility of parole, but if he goes to trial he'll get the gas chamber. The accused says he didn't do it so go pound sand. DA says OK, we'll make you a deal. If without admitting any guilt, you'll just promise you won't murder anyone in the future we'll drop the charges... The family, which brought a civil suit says, ok, we'll settle for a couple of 6 packs and a bag of Doritos.
How strong do you think the case really was?
You want denial? Look in a mirror.
Please fpg, give it up.
If AMD had any witnesses they wouldn't have settled for chump change.
If the FTC had a case they wouldn't have caved in and settled.
If the NYAG had a case he wouldn't have dropped the charges.
None of them ever had a case. Get over it.
Bozo
Be assured I am not willfully ignorant
Perhaps not willingly.
I take this as a sign that AMD is executing like usual.
I would say AMD is not executing, like usual.
fpg
You're now arguing that Dell, HP, IBM etc. were (all) lying when they (all) corroborated AMD's claims
Was that before or after you were abducted by space aliens?
Andy
I just keep writing those Puts and Calls. Sometimes the Call is in the money and has to be rolled out, or sometimes it's the Put. I just keep writing those Puts and Calls...
fpg
We've been over this a million times. No one backed up AMD's accusations under oath where they could be confronted and cross examined. You know this. Why don't you drop it and join this decade.
Bozo
Haven't we been through this enough times. You believe the AMD fantasy and I don't. Can't you find anything to discuss from this decade?
Bozo
There was another form of darkness around that time that involved marketing practices
Allegedly. Unfortunately for you and AMD, no one ever corroborated those accusations.
Sage advise
It usually is...
Sell Calls when the trend is down.

did you ever get out from under those $5 AMD puts?
Yes I did, at a small loss.
Andy
how's Intel stock doing???
Not so good but I just keep selling Puts and Calls like I've been doing for years.
Bozo
AMD admitted they had a reputation of being junk. One gains that reputation over time. It's not an overnight thing. It was over years.

*Dell trashed AMD in public, while taking Billion$ from Intel, YMMV
At the same time AMD was trashing itself in private:
http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2010/01/12/intel-amd-execs-cited-its-failings-not-intel-tactics/?mod=rss_WSJBlog
a person looking at the situation “with an objective set of eyes” would never buy AMD chips. “I certainly would never buy AMD for a personal system if I wasn’t working here.”
He {VP Henri Richard} described that AMD strategy as “pathetic,” for “exposing a partial story, particularly in the commercial segment, that is clearly inferior to Intel’s, if we want to be honest with ourselves.”
“we’re cheap, less reliable, lower quality consumer type product.”
So basically Dell and AMD were in complete agreement.
Hi tecate
I'm as suspicious as you but I think we should wait and see what Intel says about it.
Looks like AMD and Intel will be headed back to Court:
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has reached a deal to allow a new joint venture in China to produce chips there using proprietary technology long considered the crown jewel of AMD and its rival Intel Corp.
The move, which could spur opposition from Intel, underscores AMD's pressing search for new revenue following its long-running struggle in the microprocessor market. It also reflects China's high-profile quest to become less dependent on foreign technology, using investments and acquisitions that at times have prompted U.S. government scrutiny.
Under the deal, AMD said it had licensed x86 chip technology to a new venture it is forming with Tianjin Haiguang Advanced Technology Investment Co., which will use the technology to develop chips for server systems to be sold only in China. In exchange, AMD said it expects to receive $293 million in licensing fees plus royalties on sales of any chips developed by the venture.
Another "Hail Mary" signaling utter desperation.
My guess is that this is a ploy by ETE to find a way out of this deal without having to pay penalties.
A couple of months ago I posted about my problems with NorthWest Territories Mint. Long delivery delays. Long refund delays. Looks like they've gone tits up.

Well, at least they have their foot on AMD's throat. That's always been the metric some point to when they need a whipping boy
You have it all wrong. AMD has a great set of PPT presentations, an aggressive schedule and a new generation of Fanboys who are fired up. That guarantees success because this time it's different, just like the last time and the time before that and the time before that...

Vs. OpenPOWER and ARM, Intel has nobody they can put the screws to. Literally zero leverage
Intel hasn't put the screws to anybody. Intel dominates with superior products and customer support.
