Slander? Hardly. Yes I do find some of your ideas kind of out there and that is why I used the expamples of Bigfoot and UFO's. It like one big conspiracy theory with you. Its like the guy that hangs out on the street corner, screaming that the end of the world is coming. Eventually that guy will be right but what has he done in the meantime to prevent it. All I'm saying is stop complaining and start working to resolve the issues. The constant whining and moaning is not helping the situation.
Rogue: I learned along time ago that the glass is half full. The economy will come and go but my life is a one time thing. I live for my god, my family, and my country. None of the three has ever failed me. Sometimes people (politicians) wrong you but that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. I just was making the point that your constant babbling about the economy isn't part of the solution. Now if you do take up your torch and go out there and do something then I would be your biggest supporter. While some of the things you post border on Bigfoot and UFO profecies, some of your points are right on. However, we have all heard you and your copy and pasted articles time after time. Your not telling anybody on this board anything new yet you continue to scream from your bully pulpet. Why, so that when the floor does finally fall out of the market, we can all pat you on the back? That does nothing to fix the problem. I encourage you to do what you say, but go out into the world where it actually may catch some new ears.
Finally a post that doesn't get me down. I thought I was the only one that was getting depressed reading the board today. Thanks OLDPRO.
I'm with you man. Like I said before, you should do well this week. The stock gets no respect, especially in this market, but the inst. ownership has gone up substantially in the last 6 months. Last week was pretty good for Allstate so not all financial stocks were hit hard. I hope that translates to UVE this week.
The assessment is based on premiums written. I think you are talking about how they determine premiums. The premiums are based on replacement value amoungst other things.
UVE: I think .38 is pretty close. I am guessing .40-.45 with the assessment. I think renewels are cheaper because the commissions are substantially less for the brokers. The PE on this stock is already very low compared to the industry. Look at TCHC's PE. Even if it sits at a 7 PE and makes .38 then your still looking at 9.5-10. bbotcs is right that UVE isn't going to get the respect it deserves but it still should move up a good bit next week.
I don't know who added the new picture to the box but I love the pirate.
He is right because this stock is so predicatable. After earnings it shoots up. Then it has a slight pullback. Then it shoots back up to even higher levels. Then it drops back to around the old highs from before earnings. It will trade up and down from there until the next earnings report. This is the time when you can really trade the stock on a daily basis. That is what stage we have been in for the last few weeks. The PE stays lower during hurricane season so during the cycle the highs aren't quite as high and the lows are a little lower. During hurricane season it trades in a PE range between 7-8.5 most of the time. The PE is usually a little higher after hurricane season. Maybe 8-10. If they get it to a higher exchange it should trade with a little less volatility. Now this is good for the hold it crowd but not as good for those that like to take advantage of the easy trades. This is just going off of my instincts of watching this stock for a while(Since the 2's). Kind of a general blue print of what you can expect.
I am not worried at all. I have been in and out of this since the mid 2's. Just pointing out how funny these guys can get.
What a crock. It closes at 7.77 then they drop it to 7.62 2 minutes after the bell. They have been doing that all week.
You are right about that. I don't usually drink beer to tell you the truth. Bourbon for me.
I always find it amazing that this stock simply sits on low volume right on into earnings. It seemed as if someone was buying this morning but then volume just stopped.
I like it. Its cheap and so am I. Now I wouldn't serve it to company but then again how much company do you have when your cheap.
Probably because Natty Lite still seems to be the same price.
Nice buy Hank.
I saw that to. I hope its not to much longer for this thing to start getting some action.
I asked this last night at the end of my long post but does anyone know of any public companies that are purely export. Mostly dealing with Central/South America and the Caribbean. I tried looking this up but got nothing. Where is the best place to search for public companies by keyword? I know you can do the industry thing but there has got to be one that uses a keyword search from their profiles. If not then there should be.
It doesn't really matter at this point. Earings in less than a week with push force it up or down.
OT: Ok so we get quite a few posts on here a day that deal with the falling dollar. I just wanted to let you all know that as a manufacturer it is currently helping us in a big way with exports. Out export business is way up this year and has gone through the roof in the last month. At the SEMA/APEX (huge automotive aftermarket show) show in Vegas last week the dollar was what everyone was taking about. These overseas buyers are ordering so much stuff its unbelievable. Florida is benefiting as well. One we export to the Caribbean and South America. Two we host European tourists in bigger and bigger numbers. As the dollar falls the state exports more goods and imports more tourists. (More and More of these tourists are buying property in the state as well) I attached a link to an article that talks about these things. Now I know this is only one aspect of the big picture but I just wanted to let you all know that there are some real good things that I am seeing on a daily basis in my area of expertise. By the way, what stocks do you all see taking advantage of the export business the most. I tried searching for public companies (VMC type stocks)that export to South America and the Caribbean earlier but its not so easy.

UVE: Thanks. The main seller has been Lancer. They still have quite a few shares as per the filing last week.
Bottom line is that rates are decreasing on both sides like you said. this makes this basically a non issue. The real key is if they continue to add policies.
This is pretty typical of how this stock trades before earnings. There always seems to be a good buying opp right before. I am not concerned because the comps are so low.
Based on my conversations with Florida agents, I believe that they are simply losing business to other companies. There is increased competition coming from some of the smaller companies like St. Johns and UVE. I know UVE takes on older, riskier homes. This has paid off because we have had no storms. These are the policies that many of the other companies refuse to take on anymore. I would have to research further but my guess is that TCHC is not taking on as much of this risk and therefore aren't in the position to benefit as much from the current climate. In other words, UVE is willing to write more of these policies than TCHC and that's why their business has grown faster for a longer period of time. If we had a significant storm then UVE would probably be hurt more than TCHC. Now I know that UVE has covered their asses with loads of reinsurance for this exact reason. Just a guess from what I know about the market.
Even better! Either way with the easily beatable comps, it still looks undervalued to me. One thing in the TCHC report that stood out to me was the dropping reinsurance costs. This should be the same for UVE. Cost as a percentage of business continues to decline.
I don't own TCHC. I just was reporting it because I knew it would play a short term role in the direction of UVE stock. In the end it didn't seem to matter and shouldn't. UVE will take the same assessment and it should be for about .18 if they take it all this quarter.
I have long suspected that UVE may be a takeover or merger candidate. I have a feeling that when the competition gets a little stiffer then some of the smaller carriers will join forces to keep the big guys on their heals. I don't doubt that given the right price the current management would be outta here.
Its still under UVIH.ob. Typical Yahoo.
UVE/TCHC: I have no idea but someone on the yahoo board called UVE IR and they confirmed that the charge will be on the 3rd quarter. I would rather have it on that quarter because the comp is so much lower than the fourth. I sent an email to FIGA to try and get clarification on the assessments. TFN
Ok so I see the one for Nov 30 (Can't be this one because it wasn't passed until Oct 29) but where did you find the information on the 7/21 charge? Thanks
What I don't understand is where the charge came from to begin with. I don't see it at all on the FIGA site.
UVE: I have only briefly looked over it but I don't quite understand what the FIGA as. is for. If you go to the FIGA web site you can look up the 2007 assesments and I only see one. It was levied last week and isn't due until Nov 30. If anyone else sees what I am missing then please let me know.

TCHC .24 Vs .40. They are blaming it on the state again.
Just reminding you all that TCHC reports in about an hour so watch UVE to react one way or another. They shouldn't really have any influence on one another but some investors like to think they do.
UVE: Watch today around 2PM. TCHC is supposedly reporting earnings at that time and then having a CC at 4:30. Hopefully all is well in the land of Lawson because TCHC usually moves UVE one way or another even though they shouldn't.
This stock almost never rallies into earnings. It will probably trade on low volume for the next week or so and then pop on earnings, assuming they show continued strength.
They were just talking about this on FOX Business.
I saw where it said it was a hoax but what I was wondering was who was the joke on. If you click on the link it takes you to wikipedia and explains the where it originated.
Please tell me they didn't try to pass that off as real. I had no idea what he was saying and knew that he was full of it.
Len,
Thanks for the clarification. I am still too young to take advantage of these services but hopefully they will be around when I am older. TFN
Sorry didn't see the date but it shouldn't be much different.
