Just curious, how come you responded to a post sent to JM??

Actually, that's the standing joke now. When he started, In November 2000 he said we would be in by Christmas. We thought he meant Christmas 2001. Now it's "which Christmas?"

Does that mean you're going to work on getting the thread name included in the public messages part of the mailbox?
it's a nuisance not knowing where your posts are, because if you just go to the post from the mailbox you miss everything between the last post you read and that one, and if you've been using Next 10 to read, it doesn't color out the messages you've seen, so it's really hard to know where to pick up.
So you have to go to your Favorites one-by-one and read them until you come to the one that has the post for you.
if it's even in one of your Favorites!

Not in September. When I got to close my office and move into the house.
Which was promised by Christmas.
Then promised for sure by April 15.
Then promised absolutely, unequivocally, no questions by May 30.
Guess what. We're still not in.
Then if we ever do get in, it will take me a month to get things working.
Then watch out!!

That was before they made the adjustment to account for the degree of sweetness of the iced tea imbibed by the respondents within two hours prior to answering the test questions. As you know, the amount of sugar recently taken into the body affects brain chemistry, which affects responses to statistical questions, which must be accounted for in any responsible made-up statistic.

Can anybody access any boards on IH without being registered? I think that's the case -- they can read, just not post.
if that's not true, and if people can only read the boards by registering and paying money, a CEO might want to be careful about participating on the basis of sharing information with only a portion of the investing public.
The new SEC rules are still up in the air, but if I were still a CFO I would be mighty careful where I said ANYTHING.

And I own it in my own accounts, but also haven't considered what to do with Medco.
I'll figure it out one of these days. Maybe.

Two stocks I think may be underpriced and good targets for long term buys -- Home Depot and Pfizer.
I'm hoping to get time to look at them this weekend, though it's a busy weekend, and if I get to them i'll post comments here, but if anybody has thoughts before then, ship them to me here!

When newcomers (or not so newcomers) click on a Hot! button, do you really want them directed to threads that might have just one or two recent posts in them? Might make IH look pretty moribund.

Where is Matt at?
Monday is his day to indulge himself. Don't you know about those Floridians?
First he goes to the massage parlor for a full body massage. Then he heads for the beauty parlor, where he gets the full treatment -- blue rinse, perm, nails, pedicure, and body wax. When he's done, he looks absolutely stunning.
You should be so lucky as to see him Monday evenings. It's amazing. I understand he was featured on the cover of Vogue a year or so ago.
Then something happens overnight and by Tuesday, he's back to what his other photos show.

I loved the idea of "space" poster. Oh that would be a kick to watch!
But you couldn't watch it. Only she could see her posts, so you would have no way of knowing she even existed. She would post this great post and NOTHING would come of it. She would post a hundred incredible insults, each one more insulting than the last, expecting at least SOME response, and NOTHING.
She wouldn't realize nobody could see them. But you also wouldn't realize she was doing anything at all.
So the only fun would be for Matt. And he gets enough fun as it is.
Or, he could sell the right to see the posts, but not respond to them. I know some people who would pay a premium to watch people make total asses of themselves!

Edit:There are no guaranteess in the markets.
Actually, there is one.
On any given day, some stocks will go up, some stocks will go down.
I've never seen a single day in the life of the market where EVERY stock was up or EVERY stock was down. Even in the worst days, something goes up; even on the best days, something goes down.

PMFJI, but on your point 6.
You talked about lawsuits in other cases.
But suppose there's a stock thread here and the moderator is one of a group of touts doing a p&d. He bans anybody who posts negatively, so everything on the thread is positive -- but of course he doesn't say he has banned negative thoughts. In fact, he may write to a newbie -- "check out the posting history, you'll see that there's nobody who has any concerns about this stock, everybody thinks it's got great potential." So the person buys, it dumps, and he sues IH because by allowing the tout to ban all negative posters IH has participated in the fraud. The protections accorded to boards that they are not responsible for content but are only carriers of information might be challengable if they set up rules that allow such manipulations.
And you know if it's possible, some aggressive attorney is going to try it some day.

At most, I could see board-specific exclusions being an Admin tool, though.
That's not a bad idea, if the Admin is up to taking the heat.
Then he could also make a decision how long the exclusion should last, and when the person was ready to try re-entering the thread.

Just a note, I have BGP and have had it for awhile, but I'm not sure I would buy it today. But OTOH, I'm not ready to sell it because it still has a ways to run, and I don't have anyplace to put the net after tax return I would get that I'm confident would make up the tax and trading cost difference within one to, at most, two years.

Yes, I do set targets. But they're movable targets. When I buy a stock I have a five year target, which will produce at least a 15% annual gain with an upside/downside risk ratio of at least 3-1.
With each quarterly report, I am supposed to (I am a bit behind!) re-evaluate each stock to see whether it is on target, and to re-evaluate the five year target (a moving five years). If it's progressing well, I leave it alone. If it's not, I try to figure out why, and sell it if something has changed and the five year target now appears unreachable. If it's shot up so that it's already achieved most of its gain, and it no longer offers a good prospect of return in five years, I sell it. If it's shot up and still has some growth potential but the risk/reward ratio has deteriorated, I will often sell part of it to lock in some gains and let the rest of it ride for future growth.
In the abstract like this, it is a bit complex. But yes, I do have targets, but it's not like I say "I bought SGR at 19 and when it hits 40 I'm going to sell no matter when or what." It's more "I bought SGR at 19 and as long as it continues to increase in value and as long as it continues to offer strong prospects of future growth at a reasonable risk/reward ratio, I'll keep it."

there are companies that do that, at least on a smaller scale. I've used Sprint and AT&T. But it's pricy.
I would just email or call the IR departments of some companies you know that does such calls and ask them who they use. No reason they shouldn't tell you.

Personally, I think Matt has all the tools he needs in order to deal with anything he sees as a serious problem.
JM and I got off on each other for awhile on his thread, and he tossed us in jail until we worked it out. Which we did.
If he sees it as a problem here, also, he can warn us that any more of this will result in full suspension or termination for a period, or forever, and he has the ability to do this.
I am assuming that by his lack of action, of formal warnings, etc. he sees it as relatively harmless by-play and stress reliever, maybe even providing some humor to others as long as it doesn't come to dominate the thread, which it hasn't.
But unless Matt cries, whether about JM, me, Hollen, or anybody else, "help, I can't deal with this situation or these people without some additional tools I don't have," why bother?
