CNN Carried Only 33% of Horowitz Hearing, But Had 99% of Impeachment Hearing… Ratings Plummet by Double-Digits
December 13, 2019 by IWB
Media bias is not just about what they broadcast, but what they don’t broadcast. The brainwashing administered by MSM for the past 75 years has played a major role in shaping all of the major problems we discuss here.
On Wednesday night, NewsBusters examined the live coverage from the top three cable news networks (CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC) devoted to the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing featuring Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz on his report on the Russia probe and, most notably, far-left, pro-impeachment CNN only covered live 33.4 percent of the hearing.
But when it came time for Wednesday’s impeachment hearing, CNN reminded us why they need a lesson on idiolatry and find things to care about besides hating Trump. All told, they carried 99.9 percent of the primetime House Judiciary Committee hearing on Articles of Impeachment, which amounted to all but nine seconds.
In contrast on the Horowitz hearing, MSNBC stepped up to the plate and carried 89 percent of it live while FNC was just behind at 88.7 percent. For CNN, perhaps it stemmed from the fact that it didn’t feature their favorite Democrats like Congressman Adam Schiff (CA).
Using C-SPAN’s gavel-to-gavel coverage, the hearing lasted roughly 320 minutes and 37 seconds, but the Jeffrey Zucker-led CNN dipped in for only 106 minutes and 56 seconds.
Instead, CNN ignored Republican Chairman Lindsey Graham’s opening statement and didn’t join the hearing until 10:57 a.m. Eastern in the midst of Horowitz’s opening statement. CNN took a six-minute commercial break at 11:50 a.m. Eastern and rejoined the hearing until its pause for lunch.
Inside Politics and CNN Right Now filled their airtime with their predictably pro-FBI and anti-Trump spin until rediscovering the hearing at 1:48 p.m. Eastern.

CNN Ratings Plummet by Double-Digits During Impeachment Week
As CNN cheers on the impeachment and stink finger Don Lemon cries about how juvenile Trump memes are, CNN’s ratings are sinking into the abyss of the Mariana Trench.
Besides visceral hate for Donald Trump, one of the reasons CNN has been so openly aggressive in cheerleading for Trump’s impeachment is to boost its pathetic ratings.
Well, like everything else CNNLOL chief Jeff Zucker touches, that plan has also failed because the far-left outlet’s ratings took a double-digit nosedive last week.

Treason's Greetings by Stilton Jarlsberg
Things are looking up
.
The current news cycle is even more mind-bogglingly annoying than usual - and that's saying a lot. We're drowning in the kind of idiocy which would make us pull our hair out if there was enough up there to get a good handful. As it is, we have to settle for pulling strips of skin off our bald pate, making a sound like angrily pulling tape out of a dispenser by the foot.
The Horowitz report, if you listen to mainstream media, you'd think that it proves the FBI and everyone involved with investigating Trump for Russian collusion were innocent of any wrongdoing. Even lanky, lying Jim Comey is tweeting about the complete victory the report represents.
Only it doesn't. The report actually cites hundreds of examples of FBI wrongdoing, and finds "no evidence of political bias" for the sole reason that no one being interviewed admitted to being part of a coup attempt. The report is wildly damning of the FBI and the deep state...but the great unwashed aren't hearing any of it, and the odds that they'll bother to read a 400+ page report are nonexistent.
Meanwhile, the Democrats solemnly read out their articles of impeachment against Trump: abuse of power (for looking into Democrat corruption) and "obstruction of Congress" for repeatedly pointing out, with complete accuracy, that his opponents are liars and fools. In other words, he's being impeached for doing exactly what he was elected to do.
We're hoping that this is all the fetid calm before the real storm of the Durham report, which will possibly bring criminal charges against the whole seditious mob that's been undermining our government and country for years (and quite likely decades).
For now, all we can do is wait, grit our teeth, and focus on other things while adding "political Armageddon" to our Christmas wish lists.

The social justice drive to destroy American education
By Heather Mac Donald December 11, 2019 | 7:35pm
Social justice ideology is turning higher education into an engine of progressive advocacy, according to a new report by the National Association of Scholars. Left-wing activists masquerading as professors are infiltrating traditional academic departments or creating new ones — such as “Solidarity and Social Justice” — to advance their cause. They are entering the highest circles of college administration. From these perches, they require students to take social justice courses, such as “Native Sexualities and Queer Discourse” or “Hip-hop Workshop,” and attend social-justice events in order to graduate.
But social justice education is merely a symptom of an even deeper perversion of academic values: the cult of race and gender victimology a?k?a “diversity.” The diversity cult is driven by one overwhelming reality: the seemingly intractable achievement gap between whites and Asians on the one hand, and blacks and Hispanics on the other. Radical feminism, as well as LGBT advocacy, are also deeply intertwined with diversity and social justice thinking on campus and off. But race is the main impetus. Liberal whites are terrified that the achievement and behavior gaps will never close. So they have crafted a totalizing narrative about the supremacist white norms and racism that allegedly hold back black achievement.
Objectivity, a strong work ethic, individualism, a respect for the written word, perfectionism and promptness are among the “white norms” that diversity and social-justice theory seek to deconstruct. In New York City, Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza is inflicting social justice ideology on local schools. Any act of self-discipline or deferred gratification is now simply a manifestation of white supremacy.
The test for whether a norm is “white” and thus illegitimate is whether it has a disparate impact on blacks and Hispanics. Given the behavioral and academic skills gaps, every colorblind standard of achievement will have a disparate impact. The average black 12th-grader currently reads at the level of the average white eighth-grader. Math levels are similarly skewed. Truancy rates for black students are often four times as high as for white students.
The solution to this disparity is not greater effort on the part of students, according to social-justice and diversity proponents. Instead, teachers are now taught about “inclusive grading” and how to assess writing without judging its quality, since such quality judgments maintain white language supremacy.
It is impossible to overstate how fierce and sweeping the attack on meritocracy is: Every mainstream institution is either furiously revising its standards or finds itself in the crosshairs for failing to do so. Due to the diversity imperative, medical schools admit black students with MCAT scores that would be automatically disqualifying if presented by a white or Asian student. An oncology professor at an Ivy League medical school was berated by a supervisor for giving an exam in pharmacology that was too “fact-based.”
The only precedent for our current resentment-driven war on the West’s magnificent achievements is the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and that didn’t turn out well. Anti-racism has become the national religion, with the search for instances of racism to back up that religion becoming ever more desperate.
In fact, America is among the least racist countries on the planet. There is not a single mainstream institution not trying to hire and promote as many underrepresented minorities as possible.
Conservative philanthropists and firms spend billions each year on uplift programs to close the achievement gap. Taxpayer dollars are as liberally distributed from government coffers. We so take these efforts for granted that we don’t even see them; they have no effect on the dominant narrative about white indifference and exploitation.
How a civilization survives with so much contempt for itself is an open question. The claim that every feature of our world rests on racial oppression undermines the moral legitimacy of our country. The greatest sin of the social-justice and diversity crusade, however, is to teach students to hate their cultural inheritance. That inheritance allows us to trace the ever-changing reflection of human experience in the mirror of human imagination. The social justice crusaders are stripping the future of everything that gives human life meaning: beauty, sublimity and wit.

Venezuela proves that after government takes your guns, they will distribute firearms to their own socialist militia groups
By JD HEYES on 12/11/2019
Americans concerned about the future of our republic at the hands of rising socialism among one of the two major political parties — Democrats — continue to point out the failure of the political and economic ideology in our own hemisphere to anyone who is willing to listen.
Decades after the Cuban economy all but collapsed under socialism’s close cousin, Communism, Venezuela, under one socialist dictator after another, has become South America’s most recent failed state.
Once the jewel of the continent under mostly capitalist leaders, Venezuelans used to enjoy the highest standard of living throughout the region.
But after years of socialist ‘reforms’ first under Hugo Chavez and now under ‘President’ Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelans have fled their homeland by the tens of thousands to neighboring countries in search of jobs, opportunity, and even food.
And while Venezuelans did this to themselves by falling for the romantic vision of socialism, which preaches that ‘rich people are bad’ because ‘everyone is supposed to be equal,’ many now regret what they’ve allowed their country to become.
Only, there isn’t much they can do about it because the dictator in charge, Maduro, has all the power and all the guns.
Like socialist and communist authoritarians always do, Chavez long ago disarmed most of his people, leaving his government and its military, along with local and federalized police forces, the only organizations that were armed.
When armed people rule over unarmed people, democracy, liberty, and freedom vanish — replaced by iron-fisted authoritarianism. (Which begs a question about U.S. Democrats; since they are the party that constantly seeks to disarm as many Americans as possible, what do you think they’ll do if they ever get all the guns?)
It’s been that way throughout history and it remains true to this day.
When only the powerful have guns, the people suffer
This gross imbalance of power in Venezuela was highlighted last week ahead of what Maduro claimed was an imminent attack on his country by neighboring Colombia, as reported by Breitbart News:
Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro claimed to have over 3 million armed socialist militia members at his disposal and ordered his defense minister to give out 13,000 military-grade firearms to “workers” in anticipation of an alleged attack by Colombia...
The report noted that Maduro spent a great deal of his weekend talking up the alleged socialist “militias” who he claimed stood ready to attack any of his enemies. To some analysts, the fact that he would arm them proves he doesn’t completely trust his armed forces alone to ensure he remains in power, Breitbart News reported. (Related: Venezuela was my home, and socialism destroyed it. Slowly, it will destroy America, too.)
Got that? He arms people he believes are loyal to him for the explicit purpose of remaining in power. What does it tell you about a leader who must a) take away all the guns in his country and then give many of them to b) only people he thinks he can trust so he can c) remain in control?
Maybe if Maduro wasn’t such a lousy leader, a brutish dictator who embraces and perpetuates a failed economic model on his people, causing them to suffer greatly, he wouldn’t feel the need to conjure up a ‘national emergency’ with a neighboring country so he could distribute arms to loyalists.
But that alone shows you the value of an armed populace: To protect themselves from toxic, malevolent leaders who want to keep power no matter what.
An armed populace will not be bullied, forced into compliance, or murdered at will. And that’s precisely why our founding fathers wrote and ratified the Second Amendment. It wasn’t so early Americans could “hunt.”
As for Maduro, he ceased being the nation’s legitimate president in January when the country’s legislature found he stole the May 2018 election. The legislature replaced him with an interim president, Juan Guaidó, but the armed forces refuse to acknowledge him and continue to back Maduro.

AMAZING! Trump Approval Hits 50%, SIX POINTS Above Obama — On Same Day Do-Nothing Democrats Announce Articles of Impeachment
On Tuesday President Trump’s approval rating hit 50% in the Rasmussen daily tracking poll.
President Trump’s approval rating is 6 points HIGHER than Obama at the same point in his presidency.
This is also despite national mainstream media reporting negatively on the highly successful President Trump 96% of the time.
This is on the same day Nancy Pelosi announced the Do-Nothing Democrats will vote for sham articles of impeachment President Trump in the House.

Tick Tock: Rudy To Release Report On Ukraine-Biden Crime Family Findings This Week
(Gateway Pundit) – President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani traveled to Hungary and Ukraine last week and met with officials in Kiev in his ongoing efforts to expose corruption and pay-to-play schemes involving the Biden crime family and other Democrats.
Mr. Giuliani revealed Monday morning on Steve Bannon’s radio show “The War Room: Impeachment” that he is working to release a report on his findings from his latest trip to Europe to Attorney General Bill Barr and GOP lawmakers in Congress this week.
OAN reporter Chanel Rion has been traveling with Rudy Giuliani and reporting on his investigations in Hungary and Kiev, Ukraine.
In her report released on Sunday night Chanel Rion mentioned that Ukrainian officials showed her six criminal cases involving the Bidens, Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
“I was going to do an outline of it and try to present it at the convenience of the Republicans in Congress and the attorney general at the end of this week,” Rudy said on a podcast interview with Steve Bannon Monday.
We know so far that Joe Biden’s drug addict son Hunter was sitting on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company and being paid by some accounts over $200,000 a month even though he had zero experience in the field.
Then-Vice President Joe Biden, who was tasked to oversee US dealings with Ukraine, threatened to withhold over $1 billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine unless they fired Viktor Shokin, the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating Burisma and Hunter.
Biden bragged about shaking down Ukraine and getting Mr. Shokin fired during a 2018 speech to the Council on Foreign Relations.

President Trump Almost Impeached for Being an Excellent Leader and too Popular with We-the-People
https://www.thepostemail.com/2019/12/10/president-trump-almost-impeached-for-being-an-excellent-leader-and-too-popular-with-we-the-people/
On Tuesday, December 10, 2019”
by Sher Zieve, ©2019
(Dec. 10, 2019) — Again, these are unprecedented times in the United States of America. Our President is being impeached for actually following through with his campaign promises and—since he’s been in office—drawing exponentially more voters to his side than when he won his first term of office in 2016. Despite the fact that the impeachment charges are unconstitutional (there is no “obstruction of Congress” charge in the US Constitution) and the fact that the charges are not based on any discernible facts and legal positions, the worst individuals leading the lower-house charge in our history have decided to impeach President Trump and will go to a lower-house vote next week.
Not only has President Trump not committed “high crimes and misdemeanors”…he has committed no crimes, whatsoever, as President of the United States, let alone any crime at all. The Democrats have based their entire case on hearsay and anti-Trump opinion witnesses. And, the Republican President was not offered any defense—the “defense” he was allowed included the Democrat committee chairs to make the rules as to whom POTUS could call, who would be allowed and disallowed and how many witnesses he could bring. These include the very definition of a Kangaroo Court:
“A kangaroo court is a court that ignores recognized standards of law or justice, and often carries little or no official standing in the territory within which it resides. The term may also apply to a court held by a legitimate judicial authority who intentionally disregards the court’s legal or ethical obligations. The defendants in such courts are often denied access to legal representation and in some cases, proper defense and the right of appeal.”
So, now we move into the next phase of the SDAP’s (Socialist Democrats of America Party) attempts to get rid of the man who will likely prove to be the most popular in American history.
Note: Unless you and I vote ALL Democrats out of power…this will never end. The Democrats are already saying if this impeachment attempt doesn’t work, they will continue to impeach the president until something “kinda’ sorta” sticks. Get rid of the power-mad destructive Democrats…or get rid of our country. The Democrats have made it clear that this is our only choice left.
Rep. Al Green says President Trump can continue to be impeached if this attempt doesn’t work to get rid of him. In 0ther words, if the Marxist Dems do not have their way, they will destroy our country.
That’s precisely the reason they must be booted out of power.
The Democrats’ impeachment announcement was sad, pathetic and weird: Goodwin
By Michael Goodwin December 10, 2019 | 9:56pm
House Democrats made it official — they will vote on two impeachment articles. But as history-making events go, the announcement was extra weird.
The decision was expected, yet the way it unfolded was strange. Speaker Nancy Pelosi obviously put out an order requiring her team to adopt a sackcloth-and-ashes pose for the cameras, as if they were attending a funeral.
No high-fives, back slapping and smiles today! Gotta pretend we’re not enjoying this!
The act surely didn’t fool anyone. The rabid Dem base is certainly cheering the moment, and Trump supporters won’t be tricked by phony long faces.
In fact, the decision is a huge milestone in the long resistance to Trump, and pretending otherwise is silly. But the politics of the conjured impeachment require a continual selling job, and conveying a sense of dutiful reluctance is part of Pelosi’s con.
The contents of the announcement were also odd, starting with the rushed path to the finish line. A committee vote this week, a full House vote maybe next week and then off for Christmas vacation.
Anyone expecting a full and deliberate debate on an issue of such national importance hasn’t been paying attention. This is a one-party show done only for political purposes, so there’s no time or reason to debate.
The speed also suggests the leaders are reading polls and concluded that the more they talk, the less the public supports them. On that score, they’re dead right.
A Quinnipiac national poll released Tuesday found 51 percent of voters oppose impeachment and removal, with 45 percent supporting. It’s the first time Quinnipiac has found a majority in opposition.
Rep. Adam Schiff, the most creative member of the team, nonetheless introduced the latest excuse for the haste, claiming that Trump would corrupt the 2020 election if he’s still in office.
“The argument, ‘Why don’t you just wait?’ amounts to this: ‘Why don’t you just let him cheat in one more election? Why not let him cheat just one more time?’ ” Schiff said.
That’s a novel interpretation that relies on Schiff’s repeated false claim that Trump cheated in 2016. Perhaps he’s not aware that Robert Mueller said otherwise. Or maybe he believes Mueller’s a Russian agent.
Unspoken at the press conference was the fact that Dems don’t want to throw a larger cloud over their party’s presidential candidates. The Iowa caucus is Feb. 3, and Super Tuesday comes a month later. The candidates are compelled to support impeachment, but none wants to make a fetish of it.
Besides, with approximately zero chance they can muster the two-thirds Senate vote to convict and remove Trump, Dems won’t worship at the altar of lost causes. They want to do their thing for zealots and donors and move on.
The strangest aspect is that they are limiting their case to two articles, junking much of the mud they threw in their numerous hearings and press conferences.
No bribery, no quid pro quo, no witness intimidation, nothing to do with Mueller — all the talking points of months just suddenly disappeared.
The first article, charging abuse of power, is aimed at Trump’s phone call with Ukraine and the claim that he was using his office for personal gain by wanting an investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden’s actions there. It’s a mushy claim that hasn’t resonated with the broader public because it’s not clear that Trump was breaking any laws or doing anything even close to the edge.
As I’ve written, it’s akin to calling for the death penalty for jaywalking.
The second charge, obstruction of Congress, is also an extra-long shot. To prevail on that in the usual ways, Pelosi’s team would have needed to go to court and won rulings that would enforce their subpoenas for White House witnesses and documents.
Instead, saying they don’t have time for court fights, they merely plan to make an obstruction charge, which effectively accuses the president of asserting his constitutional right to executive privilege. How is that kosher?
If the process unfolds as expected, a few Dems in the House will vote no but the articles will pass — and the partisan assassination attempt will die in the Senate sometime in January. How long the trial would take depends largely on how many witnesses are called, and a report Tuesday suggested most in the GOP want to keep the trial as short as possible.
Trump, however, has said he wants to call the Bidens, Schiff and the whistleblower, basically to put the Dems on trial. That conflict is something the White House and Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will have to resolve.
In either case, it’s likely that by the time of the Iowa caucus, the failed putsch will seem like ancient history. That’s weird, too, and yet, these days, par for the course.
No holds Barr-ed!
The attorney general has more to say, so listen up.
Recall that AG Bill Barr was direct in his initial reaction to the inspector-general report, complimenting Michael Horowitz while also saying that bad as it was for the FBI, the report on the start of the Russia probe wasn’t the last word. That would come from US Attorney John Durham’s criminal probe, which has access to more information through a grand jury and its subpoena power.
Barr went further in a Tuesday interview. “I think our nation was turned on its head for three years based on a completely bogus narrative that was largely fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press,” he told NBC. “I think there were gross abuses . . . and inexplicable behavior that is intolerable in the FBI.”
NBC, writing about the interview, reflected its bias by saying Barr’s remarks are “bound to stoke further debate about whether the attorney general is acting in good faith, or as a political hatchet man for Trump.”
It’s not a debate. Only someone who has an irrational hatred of Trump could read the IG report and say the FBI’s litany of mistakes were honest ones.
Nor is Barr’s other point debatable: The egregious behavior was “fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press.”
Those are inconvenient facts for the media and Trump haters, but they are facts nonetheless. Barr’s willingness to state them forcefully takes wisdom and courage.
Good for him, great for America.

Jerry Nadler’s absolutely underwhelming articles of impeachment
By Post Editorial Board December 10, 2019 | 8:15pm
Just 11 weeks after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her “official impeachment inquiry,” Judiciary Committee chief Jerry Nadler released his draft articles of impeachment — remarkably weak ones.
The same day, Pelosi announced a deal with President Trump to pass his US-Mexico-Canada trade deal, replacing NAFTA. It’s a win for him and for her moderate members — yet the speaker is simultaneously treating the president as a threat to the republic and as a man she can do business with.
The reason may be as simple as the polls: The latest Quinnipiac survey shows sentiment against impeachment at its strongest since Pelosi got the ball rolling on Sept. 24, with more than half of voters now saying Trump shouldn’t be removed from office.
Partisan leaks from Rep. Adam Schiff’s early closed-door hearings had shifted public opinion slightly the other way through the end of October, when the House finally voted to OK impeachment proceedings. But the public hearings have since pushed the needle all the way back, and then some.
Why? Well, Democrats have been confused on just what Trump did wrong. All their early talk of a “quid pro quo” in Trump’s July phone call with Ukraine’s president turned (after some polling) into charges of “bribery” and “extortion.” Yet all those terms are absent from Nadler’s articles.
He offers one on “abuse of power,” which covers all the efforts to get Ukraine to investigate 1) 2016 meddling and 2) the company that hired Hunter Biden. But it doesn’t explain how Trump “compromised the national security of the United States and undermined the integrity of the United States democratic process” or solicited interference in the 2020 election.
Schiff contends Trump wanted “sham investigations” from Ukraine. But the inquiry produced not a single person or document suggesting Trump wanted Ukraine to frame his potential 2020 rival.
Nadler’s other article is for “obstruction of Congress,” centering on the White House’s refusal to cooperate with House hearings, ordering various officials not to testify.
Yet the legislative and executive branches fight all the time over compelling such testimony: It’s up to the judicial branch to resolve each battle — but House Democrats declined to go to court this time.
That’s likely why Nadler didn’t even go for an “obstruction of justice” article — one of the main counts in both the Nixon and Clinton impeachments.
Pelosi & Co. plainly figure they have to finish what they started — but they’ve given up on doing more than a slapdash job of it.

FISA Report Reveals Clinton Meddled In 2016 Election
by Tyler Durden
Tue, 12/10/2019 - 09:50
If Russia spending $100,000 on Facebook ads constitutes election interference, and Donald Trump asking Ukraine to investigate the Bidens is too - then Hillary Clinton takes the cake when it comes to influence campaigns designed to harm a political opponent.
Contained within Monday's FISA report by the DOJ Inspector General is the revelation that Fusion GPS, the firm paid by the Clinton campaign to produce the Steele dossier, "was paying Steele to discuss his reporting with the media." (P. 369 and elsewhere)
(h/t @wakeywakey16)
And when did Steele talk with the media (which got him fired as an FBI source)? September of 2016, roughly six weeks before the election.
One of the more damaging articles to result from these meetings was authored by Yahoo News journalist Michael Isikoff, who said in an interview that he was invited by Fusion GPS to meet a "secret source" at a Washington restaurant.
That secret source was none other than Christopher Steele, a former MI-6 Russia expert who fed the Isikoff information for a September 23, 2016 article - which would have had far greater reach and impact coming from such a widely-read media outlet vs. $100,000 in Russian-bought Facebook ads.
Isikoff's article claimed that former Trump campaign aide Carter Page "has opened up private communications with senior Russian officials - including talks about the possible lifting of economic sanctions if the Republican nominee becomes president."
This allegaton was found by special counsel Robert Mueller report to be false. Moreover, the FBI knew about it in December, 2016, when DOJ #4 Bruce Ohr told the agency as much.
FISA report, P. 206
"Steele told us that in September [of 2016] her and Simpson gave an "off-the-record" briefing to a small number of journalists about his reporting," reads page 165 of the FISA report, which says that Steele "acknowledged that Yahoo News was identified in one of the court filings in the foreign litigation as being present."
Put another way, Hillary Clinton paid Christopher Steele to feed information to the MSM in order to harm Donald Trump right before the 2016 election. Granted, there were intermediaries; the Clinton campaign paid law firm Perkins Coie, which paid Fusion GPS, which paid Steele. And if asked, we're guessing Clinton would claim she had no idea this happened - which, quite frankly, simply isn't plausible given the stakes.
Whatever the case - the act of Simpson paying Steele to peddle fiction to the media for the purpose of harming Trump, by itself, constitutes blatant election meddling by every standard set by the left over the past three years.
We're sure Hillary can explain that if and when she jumps into the 2020 race.

IG Report Finds FBI Team Used Info with 'Significant Inaccuracies' To Get OK To Spy on Trump Campaign
By Joe Saunders
Published December 9, 2019 at 1:08pm
The long-awaited report released Monday by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz includes the conclusion that FBI attorneys submitted incomplete or inaccurate information on documents that affected court approval for surveillance of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
In particular, the report noted, the first campaign-related warrant application to the special court established by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act was riddled with assertions that were “inaccurate, incomplete, or unsupported by appropriate documentation, based upon information the FBI had in its possession at the time the application was filed.”
That bad or incomplete information was included in the first documents filed with the FISA court in October 2016, then included in subsequent applications without being corrected, according to the more than 400-page report.
The warrants were being sought for surveillance on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page — who was painted as being a Russian agent but to this day never been charged with any wrongdoing.
As the report put it, the first application contained “significant inaccuracies and omissions” including:
The omission that Page had previously provided information to the U.S. government about his contacts with Russian agents and had been an “operational contact” for another U.S. government agency from 2008 to 2013.
An overstatement of the importance — and reliability — of information from former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, compiler of the notorious Steele dossier.
The omission of information that undermined the reliability of one of Steele’s sources.
An assertion that the FBI knew Steele was not the source of a Yahoo News about the investigation. (It turned out, he was.)
An omission that Page had told the FBI he’d never spoken to one-time Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort (and therefore could not have been a contact between Manafort and the Russian government).
The omission that Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos had been recorded telling an FBI operative that the Trump campaign had no contacts with the Russian government.
The inclusion of incriminating statements from Page to an FBI operative that supported its claim that Page was a Russian agent, but the exclusion of statements that indicated otherwise.
In other words, the FBI was deliberately cherry-picking the information it was presenting to a court that was entitled to expect it was being dealt with honestly.
“Our review found that FBI personnel fell far short of the requirement in FBI policy that they ensure that all factual statements in a FISA application are ‘scrupulously accurate,'” the report stated.
As a result, the court approved the surveillance warrant on Page, based in large part on information from Steele and his dossier, a collection of stories that have either been proven to be false or have been unsubstantiated.
Most who have followed the story remember the most salacious element of the Steele dossier — that Trump consorted with prostitutes while in Moscow. There has never been a shred of evidence to back that up.
But the dossier also included less lurid tales, like the alleged fact that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen had visited Prague to meet with Russian agents (he didn’t), and that the Trump campaign paid for the work of Russian hackers through a Russian consulate in Miami. (Russia doesn’t have a consulate in Miami, for starters, and no proof of the campaign’s involvement in any Russian hacking campaign has ever emerged.)
In a July 2018 deposition, in fact, Steele admitted that much of the material in his “dossier” was actually based on nothing more than rumors (some from an internet site run by CNN that simply regurgitated stories circulating on the world wide web without any editorial vetting of any kind).
The Steele report, a major part of the FBI’s justification for seeking court approval for its surveillance of the Trump campaign, has been thoroughly debunked. The fact that it was funded by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign as opposition research was never revealed to the FISA court judges.
Now, it turns out that, according to the Horowitz report, the FBI “fell far short” in its obligations to the FISA court to get a warrant for that surveillance.
While Democrats try to conjure up charges that can somehow justify removing a duly elected American president from office, the Horowitz report is casting new, damning doubt on the very foundations of the inquiry that brought Washington to where it is today.

Hey Chris-
If impeachment goes to the senate and an actual trial takes place, I think the repubs are going to tear Schiffty and his fellow dems a new one. Never mind keeping all those dem president wanna bees off the campaign trail. I imagine the repubs would want to stretch it out as long as they can as political pay back, JMHO of course.
