Perry Capital FILED APPEAL!!!!!!!!!!!
Hedge-fund firm Perry Capital LLC on Thursday filed an appeal of a U.S. judge's decision to throw out its case against the U.S. government regarding its handling of the profits of mortgage-finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth on Tuesday dismissed that case and other lawsuits brought by shareholders.
"The district court's decision overlooks important points of law and improperly resolved key questions of fact based on the government's cherry-picked record. The merits of this case deserve to be heard in court. Today's filing brings us closer to that objective," said Theodore B. Olson, the attorney representing Perry, in a statement.
The decision sent shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac tumbling more than 30% on Wednesday.
The cases challenged the U.S. government's 2012 decision to sweep nearly all of Fannie's and Freddie's profits to the U.S. Treasury, changing the terms of the companies' 2008 bailout.
