If anyone is interested, you can read posting #41745 on this forum from about two years ago. Some of my historical exuberance is, with the passage of time, poignant.
However, it unofficially documents a way back occasion of when the CEO was publically acknowledging that the cell was not going to happen. They hadn't let it go, but they could see that at that time there was no further to go. They had then branched into the installation side and were pushing that growth instead.
Again, thanks to Drquool. I remember similar comments about them being out of their depth with the (then)almost finished cell from management at a presentation I went to in Florida, 2 and a half years ago! It exists, its on a shelf in the back office, it works, and its not practical to make(and so not going to happen!) at the present time! Get over it people, the tech gamble didn't pan out this time.
Well thank you Dr. Quool for that write-up. Appreciated.
I agree Alex. It was a ball park estimate and nothing else. To suggest this was specific is really being picayune to the extreme!
Actually I think you will find it says "About $70 million" in answer to "What is your break-even in sales revenue?"
While we all shiver back east, there is great news happening out in sunny California. SUNW has tied up with a battery storage company to offer the full package to its (business only initially) customers. Great direction to go. Now they offer panel power, storage of that power, and complete installation. They will be revisiting their old customers to upgrade if needed. Things just got a tad brighter. The numbers reported in March 2017 for the previous year will be good, that appears to be undisputed, but now I think 2017 good be better still. Shine on you crazy diamond, SUNW!
Interesting. You are going to buy stock as a speculative investment/trade in a company that puts out 'pump ups', 'fake contract PR's', managerial underbids for nefarious purposes, and you expect other 'bogus PR's', Oh and a failed patent application.
I'm sorry but this is an interesting investment strategy! Any other recommendations?
Well, I'm not Mooon, but I am long! I believe the entire sector (solar) is jittery as to how our new Prez will proceed.
There are basically three areas on the sector: installation (of which we are a part), panel production (which we are, painfully, not a part), and large scale power production. Due to mismanagement, over reliance on debt and subsidies, and immature marketing, some in the field have taken severe $ punishment in a more realistic market. SUNE now trading as SUNEQ and practically bankrupt. RGSE in a death spiral of stock value. And just last week, SCTY was given a lifeline with a familial take over (CEO was a cousin) by TSLA. Otherwise they were financially unsustainable. A lot of speculative money has scampered from the field. We have been subjected to being painted with that broad brush of fear. There has also been much speculation on this board and others as to the reasons for the sluggish stock price, and there has been (IMO) over emphasis on some of SUNW practices. Solar installers in the USA like us, though we are not importers ourselves, need panels which often come from Asia so the threat of tariffs in the future is an issue.
That's the bad news as I see it.
The good news is that we are growing fast organically through the original Sun Works, and regionally through sales growth and acquisitions. We are well managed, and despite recent numbers, in line for a fantastic year to be reported in March 17.
The current Trump bull market is focused on large, traditional, conservative basics. Banking, industry etc. They are spiking, I wish I was in it! But our day will come, SUNW, for me continues to be a future winner in share price. Solar power has a huge, huge future in the USA and we are in a great position at this time if you own the stock now to capitalize within it. IMO!
Not a very active board, but does anyone know the reason for the spike today? 6 December. I can't find any headlines.
A strategy that appears to be working for them. We can assume this enhances the residential/domestic side. I'd like to know more about the nature of the partnership between the new company, what was it, Elevation? and SUNW.
Mr. Nelson does seem to have more frying pans on the fire now, with three former companies, (one of which is expanding at a fantastic rate), the outreach to business markets, and the new guy working to justify himself on government and military contracts. The future, is, dare we say it, bright?
Yes.
Lets not forget that new guy working full time to snag government/military contracts! I hope to hear about that tomorrow morning in the call. More about what he's up to and potential that is. The sky, at least where I live, is not falling.
Relax, this is market reaction to unexepected news. Give it a week, things will be very different. We still have the Conference Call on Thursday, the sun will still shine, we have a good business. Solar isn't going away.
Any submission would have to be an uninformed guess at best. We need to know what this year's numbers would be first surely. Plus, and this maybe resolved on the conference call, the nature of the partnership between the new Arizona company and SUNW. Its possible, that 2017 might even exceed the number you suggest, but I just think its premature and a bit of a tease!
If your house gets a direct hit from lightning, I would think that your panels are the least of your worries.
There's always insurance.
Why on earth should they provide you with that? China (the patent office) will provide the approval, or whatever, when they are ready. SUNW has no control over when or how or the nature of the the release or their decision.
I see SUNE (trading as SUNEQ) is in its death throes today. Down 50%. SPWR hit hard two days ago, slightly up today. We really, really don't need another solar company to become a dead carcass in the sector. The malaise affects all the companies and deters future investment bigtime!
This is a real powerful climb back. I'm impressed. In fact it shows that the sellers did their thing. One big sale before noon and those that were going to run, did! Now its all accumulation.
Exactly, as I said yesterday, I was expecting a pull back, but the 'acid' test would be the bottom of the pullback. There is the gain. Good growth in PPS since the bottom you mention. Would I have liked to have seen more? Yes, but growth is growth.
$5? LOL, At this point, I'd be happy to be even close to $4!
Traders started bailing out last Thursday and gave us that peak at $3.30, started a sell off. The post ER pull back (always is one) this morning scared the tentative hangers on, they bailed, hence the drop. Now we have some coming back in, the intensity has slowed considerably. But I see some large chunks going by, so I think some of the purchasing is larger outfits! If we can close over $3, then we are doing real well. Nice organic growth despite the pummeling. May 19 or so, don't forget, we hit $2 per share!
I found it useful to know that we own the patent. That had seemed at bit up in the air to me before. Also he did state that they have the exclusive agreement with Bovier (whatever) to allow them to use it, but will not allow direct competitors to access it. Also, it is specifically a small piece of the profitable pie. That's a fair bit of info in my book.
Yes on the panel patent. Jim seemed to clarify with someone to check, but I thought I heard him say that SUNW owns the patent for the rack. They are using the rack system well and making money on it alone.
As to the AMZN issue. No comment and no questions. I'm not surprised, its both unusual and delicate, and also, probably not that profitable. (Though a huge feather in the cap and indicative of how corporate customers see us)
Of course, within the sector itself, we are a totally different animal from the panel makers.
I have been away for 9 days. This is nice action to come back and see! Looking forward to the tenth for the #'s!
Well said Carl, batten down the hatches for the dreaded post-ER pull back. Of course, the more hatches we can get between now and then the better!
I would point out that the article recently posted by Seeking Alpha written in tremendous detail by that hedge fund manager said that he felt solar, and SUNW, would win with either presidential candidate. Maybe more with Hilary according to him, but positive results with Trump as well. One man's opinion!
I got an email from SUNW at 8:06 AM.
Thanks for past two posts, TJS, very informative. We are getting noticed it appears.
I'm hoping its Redstone Arsenal, outside of Huntsville, Alabama. (Near me!) I'll visit Jim at the ribbon cutting!
Hopefully, wherever it is, we can Danny's old outfit (What was it, MD electric before they all went under the same umbrella) busy on this one.
I would refer you to my question during the last conference call. He said he would not consider public companies for a variety of reasons.
Well, I would have preferred a higher finish, but 6%+ is up. And I see that as our direction for now. There are actually a number of very positive things in the works. (Patent, backlog, 2Q #'s coming in Aug, acquisition pending, differentiation of selling style from SCTY rabble, etc) Hold this stock through the NY's!
No, not me. Actually I feel an acquisition news/announcement is over due, however, former Sunworks and Elite both seem to be on hyperdrive taking advantage of the market. I think the result of the meeting tomorrow will be more subtle and long term if they are taken on. A positive management strategy for assistance in the area of stock price growth (as opposed to business growth), but not spike/pop material. We don't need that, we need more visibility in the right circles. This is a step towards that.
Spikes in price, spikes in volume counts, spikes in volume rates, all these quirks attract eyes on the trading floors. "Whats this happening here? Oh, its this stock again". Eyes looking, seeing, researching, recommending, remembering. Even the SA articles in their bullet quick read style are very helpful for the institutional high flying vulture scanning the field!
Plus, I've already called the bottom as in this month, the march up has started. And that's a fact IMO!
Yes, that is a typical pattern for many stocks on a 'good news' pr. Spike, pull back, settle positive, and trade continues with the good news in the bag. Good news accumulates, its all there for future buyers to see, institutional researchers to find, etc. No one expects it to just shoot up magically and stay at nosebleed heights. This is a hold for long term growth! And today is a good part of it.
For those of you who already are supporters of this company, I think that things are finally beginning to turn for us. (I'm not attempting to change minds here, just sharing my positive beliefs) I've been holding my initial purchase since 2012, but had spurts of adding all the way to 2015. I'm down on total investment, but despite that, at the moment there is much to be positive about.
Maybe there's a kneejerk reaction to pooh-pooh the analysts, but they are like sheep, and I feel this flurry of "Buy" articles is trend setting. Oh, make that "Strong Buy", LOL.
We just had great numbers for the first quarter, and those of us who follow this outfit are confident in subsequent quarters following suit for the full year. We just had the small cap conference, and I believe Jim tapped the right motherlode this time. How significant that after a day like today, with the whole market and sector down, and we are up big; many more eyes will now have a gander at us. Today we stood out and SUNW can stand the scrutiny! Throw in a possible positive news release about the patent in August/Sept and the pot just heats up more. $5.75??? Watch this space. Well done to all those who waited. Thanks to all the positive posters on this board who perservered with patience I couldn't find. I believe the worst is over and the growth we all have pined for is upon us!
BTW, IMO don't be so eager for profit. Wall Street likes growth most of all. Profits, not so much. You have to pay tax on profit. Growth is the way to go, and Jim knows it.
Well Carl, I have to say, THAT was a nice read!! Despite some disagreement on this board, IMO I feel things starting to turn for us favorably. Not within the company, they have been strong all along, but from the 'Street' and general recognition. Christmas should be good this year!
Have a good weekend everyone, its pool weather in Tennessee!
And an energetic salute back at you, Capt, from an old blue suiter! Enjoy the Memorial weekend to everyone on this board. Great stock, great early times in the solar industry, and great weather (wish I had solar already)
As to comparisons with Sun Edison. That really doesn't work. Both broadly solar, but it kinda stops there. SUNEQ is truly international, and its focus was on Solar power production on a grand scale. Wrong or right, that's what they did/do. We are a small (in the big picture of things) but growing regional solar panel installer. And if I had bought or held SUNE from the high of $33 or anywhere in between to .34c (!!!), I might be a little cautious putting my money in anything at the moment. If I had any left that is. There are some might stings over there.
