I thought about putting in a stop loss or trailing stop but I am afraid it will fire on a dip when I'm not watching it.
Alright King good to see I have an ally!
Even if he sold I'd think Ralph would come and tell us. Last time I spoke with him he said he was holding through year-end I believe, but who knows. I'm trying to hold out through Christmas but once the core of this group sells out I don't think I can stomach waiting any longer!
What Richard, don't believe the $50-$60 price targets? Haha
Still looking good for a finish about $43.00 though. Nice rebound about 10 minutes ago
"Tis far better to be lucky than good!"
Tempted, but I promised myself as long as the fundamentals don't change negatively, I'd stay in through year-end 2014. Curious to see if anyone else is thinking about it. Even if I did, I'd have to keep 1 share just so I have an excuse to hangout on this board haha!
Loving this price action. Only about 7% now until our all time high. Looking great!
We've found The Ax!
See that's what I get for trying to go several days without watching AAL. Thanks
Was yesterday a dividend date? TOS is telling me it was but I didn't see any posts about it.
Always good news if detearing is feeling bullish on the day!
I almost prefer days like this where we end up 1-2% up or down vice huge 5-10% swings. From a long-term investment standby, it just seems like sustainable healthier growth.
Ouch! It happens. I accidentally hit "flatten now" on thinkorswim a few months back and sold a large position I was down on waiting for a breakout. Lesson learned, disable that button!
What!? There's a 5th distribution? Better flood this board with posts until I get more answers!
Haha... good times. Man, I sure could use a 5th distribution after that Friday night poker round. Sorry Ralph I let you down!
"We hit the jackpot with the giddy schoolgirl attitude this time" Haha!
Have a good weekend guys, let us hope for another great week like this one! Now off to go donate the rest of my money to my friends at poker.
Richard, that's perfect thanks. So as I'm seeing it, we'll just pay regular capital gains on what our "AAL" shares, but the event, as you said is treated like a stock-split. A lot less paperwork for me! Thanks.
Slacker, definitely a good analysis, but I'd counter by saying that there is no direct link between strong fundamentals and stock price with almost all stocks. I wouldn't touch this stock with this size of investment if there weren't strong fundamentals to back it up mind you, but AAL's price action in particular has shown to be very dependent upon overall industry factors as well as emotions of investors regarding things like labor contracts and news (dare I say ebola?!)
Richard, I'm trying to do this without an accountant. This only becomes pertinent once the converted shares are sold, correct? I assume the merger itself didn't create a taxable event?
I agree, I think we won't see it dip below $35 the rest of the year personally. Holidays always help travel, not to mention the Q4 earnings estimations that were mentioned yesterday. My plan is to hold through the end of this year at least.
Haha glad I wasn't the only one who noticed.
Man he was sure quick on those closing remarks! Must have gotten word that his stock had just jumped 5%
Up 5% in 7 minutes! Just broke $39.60, thank you conference call!
Anything else you can think of that you'd like in the intro box above? The "American Airlines Orders 100 Next-Gen 737s" article doesn't seem to add anything but more hassle to scroll down to the forum. It's also old news. Anyone be upset if we ditched it?
Thinking of adding a 1-year chart instead.
American Airlines Q3 2014 Conference Call 23 OCT 14
Earnings will be announced pre-market 23 OCT 14 with a conference call following at 1230 CST
http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=117098&p=irol-EventDetails&EventId=5171864
Anyone know what time they're coming out tomorrow? Best I can find is "pre-market 23rd OCT". Would like to know what time I need to be home to catch them. I know the conference call is in the afternoon, hopefully it's better than the last one I listened to. (wasn't as much as a "investor's conference" as it was a "labor rights" debate).... anyone else remember that call?
Haha tell that to Uncle Sam, my employer!
What?! I leave this board for 1 day and I find us in the red? What are you guys doing out there!?
Slacker, check's in the mail! ;)
Price Data for AAL Prior to 12/9/13
Was looking at the chart on ThinkorSwim today, and noticed that there is pricing data for AAL all the way back to 10/05/05. Any idea where this is coming from? I asked livesupport if maybe they aggregated old AAMRQ data but he said they don't usually do that. Anyone else's brokerage show this? Google Finance charts look correct and only go back through early December.
Absolutely Richard. It still amazes me that a stock with this size of market cap can have 4-5% moves each day without breaking a sweat!
I'm up about 900% as of today. Not quite life altering, but at least I can say my first home someday will be paid for in cash.
Haha I got that.
If I hear any more about EBOLA I'm going to lose it!
Wow you definitely do have a vested interest with AAL then! My girlfriend is bugging me to let her get a dog but I try telling her that. Losing battle on my end...
Haha! Sorry about that Ralph. I forgot all about it then when you mentioned it today, it got me thinking. Now I'll go take my foot out of my mouth. Thanks!
Just so we're all on the same page we're talking about the last of the 4 distributions right? I heard talk of yet another final distro but never heard anything else about it.
33.37 Close? What is this our 4th day closing up?
So much for buying the $32.50 dip eh Richard? Haha!
No joke, I practically had to duck as my great gains on my portfolio today started to roll back like a failing engine!
