Re Discussion on patents.
The Cowen Investment coverage of August 11th 2015 states on p14 " Solar3D holds patents for a 3 dimensional silicon solar cell"
With the projected growth in solar coupled with the market dynamics forecast the multiples of sales to share price are likely to increase substantially over conventional valuations being discussed
This is new paradigm stuff that has the potential to be like the tech boom of the 1990s
Interesting that Cowens analysis states that Sol 3 D holds patents for the cell....news to me ?
Goodthoughts Drugmanrx
thanks
Like many i acquired Sol 3d because of the cell and ive been a stock holder since the 2 cent days
Im trying to make my mind up whether to go or stay with this stock.( the cell story leaves a very sour taste and Mr Nelson has finessed it whilst demanding we trust him on insider sales, dilution etc ).The trust thing needs to cut both ways ....i would have appreciated more candour
As part of my consideration Im wondering what this company has to do now to make a serious buck and what the timing outlook of that might be.
Acquiring companies( as they plan to do ) and growing top line sales looks impressive and the gross margin looks ok BUT what top line sales results/ business scale will they actually need before some serious net profit drops out and how much profit is this strategy likely to ultimately generate
I was hoping Nelson would address this in principle at least in his Q2 conf call but the hype rather outweighed the substance
Any thoughts from punters like me ?
Yup I too took a direct investment in the company back in 2012 and i have a very high regard for Mr Nelson
Its about 9 pm down here in Sydney, Australia and i have just finished watching a TV program shown prime time on our national broadcaster the ABC ( shot at the White House in May 2015) where Pres Obama interviews famed international naturalist Sir David Attenborough.
The interview opens with the President asking Attenborough
"what are the prospects for this planet we all live on?"
Attenborough responds by saying " if we can find ways of generating and storing power from renewables we will make the problems with oil and coal and other carbons just disappear...and we will be well on the way to solving the global warming issue"
Powerful message...hope it doesnt fall on deaf ears in Washington
Toss in 3- 50 mill of revenue from acquisitions and this is a $150 mill revenue biz in next to no time
Hard to understand the pessimism
thanks Alex. Hadnt actually seen that preso b4
Does anyone out there know the actual content of what JN presented at the New York / LA Investment forums
Id been hoping that Sol 3d's PR company might publish this for the share holders to read
Have i missed this ?
no body got screwed. .
A modest little company with a humble little revenue base of JUST $20 mill or thereabouts succeeded in raising $12mill of new equity ( it seems)....remarkable...and in the process fundamentally changed its balance sheet for the better
From this raising a revenue base of circa $80-100 mill seems quite likely in the trading year 2015....less than two years ago the company didnt have a revenue base at all ...zero, zippo, nothing...so the company performs fantastically well.and the truth is that last weeks ridiculous highs are the sinner not this weeks lows
If you cant deal with the interim volatility then please sell...you make me cringe with your naive bleatings
The Market Cap of the companies you mention is the aspect to get excited about....
If the plan is to IPO the Yield Co ( as stated in the media release ) then it seems maybe a nice way realizing profit from leases !
Any thoughts on First Solar / Sunpower "Joint yield co".
Rationale?
Implications for sltd?
Off to beddy byes boys. Long day tomorrow!
Tom Werner, CEO Sunpower webcast to the Annual Credit Suisse Tech Conference dated Dec 3rd 2014 is definitely worth listening to.
Check it out( especially his comment about cell efficiency which sounds familiar ! ) on the Sunpower web site under investor relations
wonder what the rationale/ logic is for expansion now from a market of 38 mill in California to a market of just 2.7 mill in Nevada ?
the maths at Solar City are a whole heap different to your assumptions and calcs
what is the connection( if any ) regarding yesterday's news regarding "Nationalize patent applications" and Swiamca's Time limit of 22nd August 2014 referred to in his post numbered 9235 dated 05/09/14 ?
"Solar 3d pursues International Patent protection for its breakthrough solar..."
online.wsj.com/article/PR-20140819-902298.html
any thoughts on Wall Street Journal announcement ?
My understanding is that Solar 3d are not going to be in the solar panel manufacturing biz but rather they intend to license their technology to others and earn fees from this.
Anyone of solar tech background got any views on what such a pricing structure might look like ?
Im trying to get a sense as to whatultimate licensing fee income potential might actually be?
Check out

JN isnt making "big money". His income is a pittance compared to what he might be making back at Bains etc
His income is the price shareholders should willingly pay to secure his services
Didnt Mr Nelson say quite recently that he expected the latest company audit to comment of the status of the patent app?
Im not a resident of the US so would know where to find the audit commentary.
Any suggestions ?
Maybe I've missed some of the discussion on Jim selling some of his shares( coz i live down under in Aussie) but i found point 9 under Investor FAQ on the newly updated web site quite informative.
Reading again the market potential for solar ( as described on the updated website)and taking into account Jim's biz acumen reaffirms for me the wisdom of buying a few hundred thousand of these shares at 2cents ( which i did a couple of years ago ) and just letting them do their thing.
The acquisition of Sunworks was a masterstroke coz he now has positive cash flow to fund the future
If you cant stand the intervening volatility you shouldnt own the stock
My first post....frustration at the "doomsdayers" made me do it !!!!!!!!!!!
Would love to know what state of commercialization of solar 3d is given that he has regularly spruiked that 3rd Quarter 2013 was the target date for this !
Also what is the actual status of the patent applications
