BnB...
I think that's what will happen....eventually.
BnB...
Yep, I live near Big D so I listened, intently, the press conference yesterday.
Much as I find it hard to sympathize with the majority of American's employees, I do think Carty made a monumentally stupid mistake. What a shocker... LOL!
Tate...
You must be a CEO.
'Bout time, IMO, sarals...
I have worked, as an assistant, to more than one CEO. Most were likeable, well-groomed, glad-handing, joke-telling, morons.
IMO, most - not all - CEOs serve the same purpose as, say, the Queen of England. They are figureheads for a company. The real brains/sweat/work come from their Presidents, Vice-Presidents, etc. And even some of them are CEOs-in-waiting (morons-in-waiting). They, too, are overpaid.
However, the tide will change as this article indicates. Maybe someone, somewhere will realize that behind every cardboard, stick-figure, CEO is a sharp assistant making him/her look brilliant.
Perhaps I'm a wee bit biased.
CM...amen...eom
LOL! trkyhntr.....you certainly do have a way with words! You crack me up!
I hope we can look past the "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" attitudes we have always cultivated, and think more along the lines of how our leader will be able to lead, protect, and generally look out for American interests worldwide.
Personally, trkyhntr...and this is just my opinion....but I think the Dems are going to use a "throwaway" candidate in 2004, since Pres. Bush will be virtually assured of re-election. His numbers are strong, his support is strong, and with the way this war is going, he will be hard to beat.
Hillary would be perfect for that role! LOL!
ksquared,
Oh! Now I remember. Yes, that's what prompted my query to ONEBGG. Seemed to me that the "delete" power had gone to someone's head, and I found it amusing. He was about to step in when I told him not to bother on my account, that I could lurk if it made his life easier.
This board is interesting, but without any exchange of differing viewpoints it's not nearly so interesting as R&C.
LOL! DoubleK....
That's twice you've mentioned this. I'm afraid I don't get it.
I haven't been trying to resist this board. I simply made it clear, to ONEBGG, I'd just lurk if my presence here was too disturbing. He assured me it was not, but he couldn't speak for everyone. Unfortunately, for some, his is the only opinion that matters to me.
I read a report that said since the "Dipshit" Chicks made their idiotic statement(s) in England sales of their CDs have dropped 52%. It's also reported that box office receipts, for movie theatres nationwide, are down 18% - and that can't be blamed on the war, economy, etc. In fact, in times of national stress the movie business tends to do quite well. Fueled by our collective need for escapism.
I believe a message has been delivered. Too bad tain't nobody home to receive it.
Mags, darling!!
The juddster is fine, he's hanging around here somewhere - doubtless he's hoping no one will notice it's his turn to chop wood.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
Ooooh, Susie!
I know exactly what you mean. Long ago a doctor of mine gave me a valuable tip about making appointments - ALWAYS book the FIRST appointment of the day or the FIRST appointment after the office re-opens after lunch (for offices that close during lunchtime). I never have to wait more than 5-10 minutes.
Of course, all that goes right out the window if one has to book an emergency visit for illness, injury, etc. But, it works wonders for regular and "maintenance" visits.
A "good" rant.........
Alarm clock to get my sleepy self out of bed @ 4:30 a.m.....$30
Gas-guzzling SUV for the loooooooong commute to work......$10K
Seeing "Cosmo's" moon (anyone remember "Moonstruck"?) in my windshield as Dino croons "That's Amore" on my in-dash CD player.........absolutely priceless.
Someone sent me this link, and I've giggled till I'm near tears...

LOL! ONEBGG.....
I swear you'd think some people take all this stuff seriously. Sheesh!
I know, CM, I apologize...
Seriously, CM, I never have...
CM....
"Some epidermis here is entirely too thin."
Oh, boy! Ain't that the truth!
To be honest, greg s....
I never heard of "Six-Pack Joe". Maybe it's a regional thing.
greg s....
Isn't that kinda like calling someone a "Regular Joe"?
greg s........
You may be more right than we will ever know.
excel...I'm just wondering....I mean, this has to have come up before...in WWII for sure. It would be a crime to lose all this history, IMO.
excel...
Surely, this type of looting has happened before. I wonder if maybe, just maybe, some of the "looters" are really Iraqi patriots who would like to see their heritage preserved, and seeing what was happening, took the stuff for safekeeping.
It's a thought, anyone have any ideas?
Okay, nyc...you can have some cookies...if pre hasn't eaten them all! LOL!
You betcha, pre....how about my renowned peanut butter cookies?
Nyc! Folks who pull our legs don't get fresh, hot, homemade cookies!! Wanna 'fess up?
Great, nyc, but I didn't put the pics up there. So, unless it's you or ONEBGG, we have a problem.
Sad, but true, sarals...and I suppose unavoidable if one has human emotion. The really scary ones are the soldiers (seemingly) unaffected by what they have experienced.
Yes, Sox...
Unfortunately, all wars leave huge scars on some warriors.
My grandfather was a medic in Korea and later in Vietnam. I saw him, sporadically, when he could get leave. He was often distant, cold, and quite distracted. I was too young to understand, but I'm sure the war left a huge mark on him.
Wow, big guy. Sorry about your stepfather. I often think that if Flash didn't have his work he'd probably go 'round the bend in a hurry.
Thank you, BnB. eom
All I can add, Castle, is amen. eom
Wow, ONEBGG, I'm speechless. God Bless your brother and you.
excel...
One of our contractors, we call him "Flash", is a Vietnam vet and he cannot speak of it to this day. Really messed with his mind, I tell ya.
Thank you, ONEBGG! eom
trkyhntr...
We have added "AED" training, these days. It's the automatic external defibrillator. A truly fascinating and lifesaving tool. We have one in each plant as we work around high voltage.
The "rant" of a proud auntie......
My nephew was one of the first "boots in the sand" soldiers in Northern Iraq. I hold my breath with each report of his unit, and search the faces in each video for a glimpse.
So far, we've gotten only sporadic e-mails from him. And, I've yet to get a glimpse of him on the television reports.
This "kid" (he's 20) is the smartest of my sister's bunch (she has 6), and originally wanted to go to medical school. Entering the military was a good way to get the education he wanted, since his folks could not afford to send him to college.
As fate would have it, he got interested in computers during his high school years. So, when the time came to enter the military he decided on a career in the computer/electronic field.
After training, he wound up in covert ops and could rarely tell us what he was doing or where he was going. Nonetheless, he found the work fascinating and has decide on a career in either the CIA or FBI when he is discharged.
During Christmas, last year, he walked up to me and said, "I have learned 73 ways to kill a person with my bare hands." I thought he was joking with me, but his tone was somber, and his eyes held no mirth. Ignoring that, I laughingly said, "Well, as long as you don't try any of them on me we'll get along fine." I was sure he'd lighten up, but he didn't. Later, my sister said this knowledge weighed heavily on him.
On New Year's Eve, we toasted the end of '02 and the beginning of '03 and I asked him where he was going when he got back to Lejuene. He said he had to go to jump school where they would teach him to "jump out of a perfectly good airplane". He was not looking forward to it, but like all the other duties of a soldier he merely accepted it. I asked him if he thought he was going to the Middle East. He said he was certain to go, and soon, to Kuwait. After that, he had no idea what to expect.
Yesterday, he sent my mom (his grandma) an e-mail. Physically, he is fine, just tired. Mentally, he is not. He cannot divulge much, but suffice it to say he is haunted by images and actions he "never dreamed of".
Herein lies my "rant"....it is all well and good to applaud our efforts in this war, they are well worth it, IMO, but we will be receiving many, many, wounded soldiers back when it is over, and not all the wounds will show. I just pray we do all we can to see that, psychologically, they get the support they need.
Good, ONEBGG. I'm finished with my class, and now there are a few more people capapble of giving (possibly) life-saving first aid.
Now, to catch up!
An observation...
Since I checked yesterday, the R&C board has over 300 posts, and this board only 5.
Could it be that the exchange over @ R&C has gotten more civilized? Guess, when I have a minute, I will check it out.
Wasn't me, but she is adorable. eom
