For all longs,
As far as the best time for an announcement on a friday or monday, have you thought about it from an options POV?
Thanks. I would be very interested in his reply.
I tend to think investors are thinking of any potential partnership deal in simpler terms than what will eventually manifest. The best deal may involve doing several regional deals and/or quelling a partner's concerns by discounting early on but loaded at the back end so they have time to see Afrezza's potential sales.
It reminds me when I first started my business with a new product to an industry I'm involved with. A major distributor had reservations taking on and untried product, but I gave them a written guarantee that I would buy them back within 12 months if they were not happy with sales. That did the trick. They sold well and we never looked back.
I'm way ahead of you. I won't waste my time plowing thru inane posts. If posters insist on wasting my time, then this is their fate too.
Thats the number I had in my mind but wasn't positive. I believe you are correct about the 88% accuracy rate. I tried to find it in my notes but could not locate it. I would like to see 92% or better which may be possible by adjusting specificity (true negative rate) and sensitivity (true positive rate) of the test.
There would be an asset valuation for that part of the company that would have to be determined, probably by a third party, but I don't see any possibility of them taking any part of it private.
That's the bottom line. I trust Al's judgement and am confident a deft hand is at the helm.
The chart doesn't give me any reason to get excited. I have been pulling for this company but was disappointed in the accuracy rate for the test. Its not as high as I'd like to see. I'm hoping they can tweak it a little.
The combination of potential options for MNKD are extensive and this could be a complicated deal, but I'd love to sell Afrezza and have shares in a separate company that develops drug applications for TechnoSphere.
Stay tuned. Things are about to get very interesting.
Yup, this one got my eye brows to raise. I wanted to post the link to it but I don't want to get TOS'd again. I'm browsing every decent board looking for news. I won't necessarily accept it on face value, but I'll make mental notes and see what develops later.
Any thoughts about the effect of announcing a partnership after the bell on friday vs on monday morning? Personally I would not even give them the chance to cover in after hours friday. Do it in the evening and let them sweat all weekend.
Right, they are not the only game in town.
Interesting post from another board:
"When Mannkind Officer Juergens Marten recently sold some shares, I went into my Scottrade account to check insider activity. A few weeks ago there were two additional planned insider sales listed by officers, one for August 2014 and a Planned Sale for November 2014. This morning I looked, and all remaining Planned 2014 Sales by Mannkind Insiders have disappeared from Scottrade's Insider Activity list.
Several respected board members have posted about a possible restructuring, that an acquisition is in the works for Mannkind Corp and all rights to Afrezza, but everything related to Technosphere is being retained by Alfred Mann through the birth of a new entity (i.e. Mannkind Technologies). Current MNKD shareholders could receive shares of both the new BP/owner PLUS shares of Mannkind Technologies.
Investors who are convinced that Afrezza will become a block buster will continue to hold their shares of the BP that owns Afrezza and even Mannkind Corporation itself if the company and plant is acquired.
Investors who believe the Technosphere drug delivery system will become global Game Changer in the $225 billion drug industry, continuing to produce novel drug treatments and new drug partnership deals, will continue to hold their shares of Mannkind Technologies.
If this, or a similar scenario is unfolding, all planned insider trades for MNKD would be cancelled due to a pending cash/stock swap, when MNKD are swapped for BP shares.
I know this is very speculative and that I may be over thinking this, so what other scenarios would cause planned insider sales to be cancelled?"
Suffern.
Unless investors are just hedging their positions, those who are short better close them out friday afternoon or risk getting crushed monday as we go into a possible partnership announcement and the CC monday evening.
So you have to ask yourself, are you feeling lucky?
"$MNKD sitting on 5 metric tons of bulk insulin but they need MORE".
(zach tweet)
Thanks guys. Somehow I missed that.
I'm in Rockland.
Does anyone know what they do at Mannkind's Paramus location? I was in the area today and thought about driving in and asking.
I like that the CC date is for a Monday. Good news tends to be set on Mondays before the bell. Bad news on a Friday AFTER the bell.
Afrezza is mentioned in AntriaBio's CEO blog as well suited for their weekly injected basal insulin:
"..As we see the reemergence of inhaled insulin with the FDA’s recent approval of MannKind Corporation’s Afrezza, a rapid-acting inhaled meal-time insulin for the treatment of diabetes, I can imagine one insulin replacement regimen where the injection burden is reduced from several injections per day to as few as one injection per week, consisting of a once-weekly basal insulin injection with inhaled insulin for meal-time requirements."

I tracked down the biography for Al Mann. He has an IQ of 172. Thanks jpsebasti for the lead.
“..The secret of my success is that most people look at technology
and say lets go out and find a use for this technology. I typically do the reverse. I look for a poorly met or unmet need and then find the technology to make it work.” But he hardly takes the credit and says he is very proud of the team of people with whom he works."

Reminds me of Catalent's IPO/interview this week on CNBC.
They specialize in drug delivery for drug companies. This could easily be MNKD saying the same things in an interview in a few years. I think WAY too much attention is placed on Afrezza and not enough on its drug delivery system, Technosphere. It could be worth as much or more than Afrezza some day, IMO.
This is the interview:

I had heard corporate earnings have to be reported no later than next friday? Is this incorrect?
Perhaps you would like to provide your reasons why you see the "bubble bursting", or is it based on something nebulous?
Everyone should be prepared for a temporary sell off IF MNKD doesn't announce a partner by the earnings announcement date due next week. Many will get cold feet up to that date and more the longer it takes, so be prepared for either event.
Personally I hope it is not announced until the deal is ready and not before. I don't think at this point MNKD will let the date pressure them into a deal and will take the temporary hit to the share price until then.
Interesting bit of MNKD news from a big office space leasing company in Northern NJ.
- Mannkind Corporation, involved in the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapeutic products, renewed 22,746 square feet at Mack-Cali Centre IV, 61 South Paramus Road in Paramus. The 269,191 square-foot office building is 60.0 percent leased.

Thank you, CHM.
Can I ask what the issue is between STEM and CUR in a nutshell? I can't seem to find details on this case.
Finally going after AF. Good! This should make plenty of SA writers fearful too.
As far as the technical chart, the next Fib support level is ~8.55. Its dipped below this but managed to close above the last two days.
agreed.
Two major reasons all Big Pharmas will take a serious look at MNKD:
The huge potential not only for Afrezza, but for Technosphere too.
The fact that several of the big pharmaceutical companies have blockbuster products that are long in the tooth and will soon be off patent, so they need to acquire other blockbusters to maintain revenue growth. They didn't get to be big by playing small ball. They aren't afraid to swing for the fences once in a while.
Mine was ostensibly for being "off topic". I was pointing out how one person could post the same nonsense with no meaningful contribution to the board ad nauseum, but I was told it was "off topic", that "everyone had a right to their opinion". They nailed the wrong person. If they took 5 minutes to read his posts HE would have been the one TOS'd.
I tried too but did not get it. Can't say too much here or I'll get TOS'd again. I'm spending more time at another board where there is no nazi.
Ditto. Just sold mine at the open.
An RS must be done during a catalyst event to give it momentum. I've seen too many of these OTC RS's fail. I intend to buy shares back, but after that event.
I've been thinking about adding more if it spikes down, but I'm already overweight here. Maybe set it just above the 200 day for the heck of it. I expect more volatility and another bear raid.
And Lilly's insulin operations is said to be expanding, although it looks like they intend to do their own manufacturing:
http://www.fiercepharmamanufacturing.com/story/lilly-cut-100-production-jobs-indianapolis-workers-get-shot-others/2014-07-21
Although the story is 4 years old, I hope Pfizer still likes MNKD.
I used margin years ago and it was not for me.
Thanks for the link, ccxsen. This is a great discussion point and one that has not been brought up before. Its important for longs to know about these things, or be reminded about them periodically so we can do our part to thwart shorting of our stock.
Yes they can, but sometimes it depends on the policy at a particular brokerage. Some will contact you and ask if they can borrow them, others will not.
Many years ago Scottrade pushed me into setting up margin accounts which I had no need for, but they talked me into it. Later I found out that it was so they could lend out my shares. Without it they could not. So longs may want to consider closing any margin accounts too.
