Email your congressmen today, email the committee members today. Let them know how you feel about tomorrow's discussion. Not sure if they or the staff members check their emails before tomorrow, but it's probably worth the time. :)
www.senate.banking.gov Maybe look and make sure you meet requirements for live streaming. I would assume cspan will be covering it also?
They are under conservatorship....and social media guidelines (as most companies these days).
Is it mandatory that they vote tomorrow? Or can it be discussion? It seems like a lot in two hours, Fed nomination votes and then GSE discussion and vote?
It is a non-event in the sense that c/w bill, j/c markup is a discombobulated mess. This stock does not like uncertainty even with confusing, weak proposed legislation. So there is always the possibility that mm's, shorters will prey on that. The fundamentals are still good, so you have to make a decision on where you stand and how you will ride through these white caps. To me it seems like white caps, not white water rafting. :)
Haven't seen it yet, but sounds great!!
The senate banking committee website has always said markup, reform proposal etc. It seems that it is when it went out to the media, the media was very sloppy immediately saying J/C bill (like it was a new bill drafted by J and C). Not sure if it was pushed on the media that way or they started it themselves. Either way, it was a big lesson of how the media needs to be watched. The differences in meaning between bills, proposals, markup, discussions and exactly how far along congress is with these items has a big effect on these stocks. We need to watch that they are using the correct terminology and giving the most current, accurate, up to date status on these.
They don't want to be out on the stock of the century. They could still get in today under $4.
Senate convenes today at 2pm est. Maybe there will be update, leak after that. I wrote my congressmen again just to make myself feel better. I do think all of our letters are also bringing attention to the stock. If this doesn't pass committee, I think some congressmen, staff, friends, etc. will jump in. Most of them are investors too.
Correct 10am-12pm est, but they have to do Fed nomination votes too, first!
This stock hates the uncertainty of proposal, bills, etc. The fundamentals are still there. Let's flush out this deadline tomorrow, Demarco leaves Wednesday. Thursday is May 1st, earnings May 8th. Watt should speak. Scorecard by mid month. Court cases are strong. May will be good. They can't have my shares!
I am so glad you caught that and pointed it out. The media and their editors are going to have to go back and take, "court terminology 101." It is just easier to follow the proceedings after that clarification. I am less worried about the discussion/markup on Tuesday. It doesn't seem like there is much time allotted anyway, 10am-12pm? They have to vote on Fed nominees first too.
and we have Obit, thank you!
Yes it is stronger, and it is making me nauseous. That is what can be interesting about following a stock. You tend to notice the details and learn a lot more about a subject, when you have some money on the line!! The majority of the public have no idea what has been going on with the GSE's, and in some instances the media isn't helping.
Written by editorial board? Is that so they cannot be individually sued for their distortions in the article? :)
www.banking.senate.gov. check system requirements for streaming, I have a feeling you have a computer that will suffice!
More specifically www.banking.senate.gov
Senate.gov
Margaret chadbourn's April 24th article she says, under a bill drafted by Johnson and Crapo, oops!!! senate gov site says drafted a reform proposal, markup.
Hearing webcast live, available once it starts. 10am-12pm est Tues April 29th, vote on nominations and consider S. 1217 housing finance reform and taxpayer protection act 2013. Are you going to watch?
This makes it seem more evident that they have been rushing to get something through, in whatever discombobulated form. Good thing there are ongoing court cases!
Zacks estimate May 8th
It will happen. The pressure is on.
Watt or the courts could release.
That doesn't mean Crapo will pass. Buffett can give opinions if he wants. The current congressional bills are too late. Even Donovan is jumping up and down saying j/c is last chance. They should just let the committee vote it down. Then they'll have a few days to buy up FnF themselves before release. They would make more money that way, then on the shorts they have on it now. :)
That author needs to be questioned. He is obviously trying to implicate that the bill is advancing quickly when it is not. The first sentence doesn't appear correct. Where are the dates and locations for the quotes from Johnson and Crapo? He obviously threw together the article to create a little stir. It is not very professional. Like someone said before, we need to create a detailed list of some important facts for the journalists. I think investors unite was working on getting that on their webpage?
Judge Sweeney, Fairholme case! That was an exciting highlight! :)
Yes, I remember August and did not enjoy the drop after he spoke. He used the term wind down, and the media was all over the place with wind down, shutter, etc. They can have very different meanings. It doesn't seem that he has spoken specifically about FnF since then. Other than the sotu when he kind of gave a feel good to taxpayer, homeowner dream, but said the impossible to congress...send me legislation where taxpayer is protected from ever being on the hook again. Can anyone say what specific plan Obama supports now for FnF? Has he said himself he fully supports J/C? His own personal investments are in t-bills, right? I guess that doesn't mean anything, kind of boring. What specific things does Obama say should happen in regards to FnF today?
I would think if Obama strongly supported something, he would say it specifically in his own words. Obama in his sotu said send me legislation that protects the taxpayer from footing the bill for a housing crisis ever again... J/C says in time of crisis government will back. How can Obama sign something that doesn't even support his sotu? Are there quotes from Obama saying he fully supports J/C?
M Fool is taking a lot of literary license with what Buffett said. Buffett first said in his own words that there needs to be some kind of government guarantee. The word "role" came from the interviewer Betty first in her question. He said no he didn't see a role for Berkshire Hathaway repeating it back to her. He did say some things like investors taking the first 5% hit, and maybe some thing in some future mortgage financing. He sort of mumbled those, and he didn't specify that he was behind a certain bill. M Fool says Buffet more or less supports a bill led by president Obama and a bipartisan group of senators. I didn't know it was led by Obama? I've heard his HUD secretary jump up and down about it now, but I haven't heard Obama say that he backs or leads J/C?
Agreed, Crapo is a distraction. The courts are ahead in this race! They deserve to be ahead. The attorneys have been working like crazy, and Judge Sweeney said the court will make itself available if a dispute requiring its immediate attention arises at any time other than during the discovery period. That is how things get done! They didn't just take a two week break. We're ahead. :)
Stop talking about the dinghy you just fell out of! FnF are full sails ahead! Out of the way or we'll run you over!
Stay focused!! Who wants Fannie and Freddie to survive? That is where our energy needs to be. Fortunately, some hedge funds stepped in a few years ago and have had the money to move things along. Perry Capital and Fairholme are making great progress against a most difficult defendant, the government!! Shareholders have strength in numbers!!! Continue to speak to your congressmen, executive branch, watch the court cases. What other group of shareholders have started things like investorsunite? We are getting close!! Next month will be telling!! We need release from conservatorship, uplisting, restoration. Be prepared to march on FHFA steps if necessary!!
2nd paragraph, FnF haven't been allowed to lobby. Also, how freely can they speak since conservatorship? Getting conservatorship lifted should be priority, so shareholders can have a voice, be acknowledged and FnF employees can speak.
They don't come back from vacation until the 28th. Not expecting huge advancements by the 29th.
Thank you for confirming that today FnF held up well, considering the rest of the market. If you are still here, that must just mean we are going up next week! :)
Yes, and the rest of the market didn't look great. FnF seemed to do fine with everything going on.
Yes, I didn't like it either. It gives the feeling that he's letting the bills and courts play out, but if he is independent, he should be able to say something himself, even if it is neutral. On the other hand Demarco has been so vocal and still speaking recently (Atlanta). Maybe they think it's better to not have them both speaking at the same time.
Bove is important in that he is sending out a warning call. Fannie and Freddie cannot not just be shut down without far reaching implications that many don't realize.
