Hoping ubet gets some 'news' that has been a rumor for a long time,, so long I stopped looking for it until the recent run,,added a tad more @ 1.15,,LOL
Thanks-- I think bear,, was watching hd for a long position,,hhmmmmm
Bought ubet @ 1.01 today,, not sure about a double but 50%..have had a little for some time.. much lower, Over the buck made it more interesting-- & I hate penny issues..but I also bought ge @ 21.95,, so a little work there would be good..
Short?? No, I hear he is tall. Then again,, is he REALLY alive? If so, WHY?
The 'benefit' NOT loophole, works nicely for all sm business. Why is it a disgrace? Those with a mortgage can write off their interest-- is that a disgrace too? Was hard to choose between the Fords & GM Suburban,, Ford won. BTW-- the whinning environmentalists can take heart in many of these are purchased instead of a larger truck,,, great deliverey vehicles & with 4X4 much safer,,, I'll keep those owned no matter how high gas goes..
MLSFT-- agree BUT read in THE HERALD, daily news of Sharon Pa that a semi is looking to build in the New Castle Pa area & add 3000 jobs,, now........ whattafk is that about??
jd--- <<"that MSFT may ahve to pay these same type of fees">> Maybe,, but those that receive the non-compatable software ends up using (maybe not actually BUYING) msft products. Customers get angry with the box maker for not supplying software they can use along with the rest of the world. Most get POed when they rec works and find word does not work,, One of those-- ya get what ya pay for deals and they are fine for those that do not link to the businees world..
bale-- <<"tend to think they are a bit more sensitive as a result of that, no?">> No,, just shows 1. they have not yet learned to protect themselves & 2. fear,, they would much rather KISS BUTT than kick it while 3. their head remains deep in the sand (or a dark place of their anatomy).
bale-- the europeans waited & talked prior to wwII. If not for the US they would be spealing German now,,
LOL! I'll stay with the white trucks-- more dependable, easier to find, less expensive,,
inthehills-- this is only the 3rd time it pays for me to dump the Kugs & Map Leafs. Always buy some when gold goes down and sell years later when it runs. Started dumping,, may even try a bit on Ebay this time. The stocks were only played once-- now I see little more value in gold stocks than Enron certs.
mlsoft-- WOW,we agree 1000%! eom
MKT_e,, gotta agree! eom
Michael,, There are two types of letting people go. Those like yours you must have compassion for. Good people & productive people. You often hope they find something better before you have the opportunity to call them back. Then there are the thieves, non-productive, & etc. Always have a good feeling terminating them. Besides, I'm not 'firing' them,, just administering the paperwork for their action. It can give a nice feeling to have a thief prosecuted,, those terminated for cause receive no recc and with luck no unemployment check too. How about those on Workmans Comp and not hurting at all,,, acquiring the required documentation to prosecute is almost better than sex!
Then it must be time to short them??LOL
Stowboat-- agreed,, many would. I never really had the interest to get into the program deeply,, just skim the surface,, then again there is risk driving to get milk & bread.
brain-- <<"Is there a full data
dump from the shuttle as it comes in?" No doubt! Too easy & required for good as well as bad info,, to duplicate or avoid. <<" I am sure they must monitor it and
the data must be available somewhere.">> Certainly they monitor but the data is NOT available to the public, probably only avail to select few engineers & managers.
<<" must have been sudden and catastrophic,">> To the crew & public no doubt. If the guy in CA is correct it seems likely some at NASA knew, at least a few min prior, things were going to hell in a hurry. If a man with a telescope could SEE a problem my bet is it was known prior to that much coming off. Does anyone really believe NASA does not have tracking capability from the moment a vehicle hits the atmosphere until landing? With all the sensors & technology? If an amature can SEE a problem,, A little fib keeps the bad publicity at a minimum..
Correct syl-- not on the table,, these people are aware they are like the military and some losses are expected. Calculated risk may have been done & the decision may have been due to time, training, readiness, or probability of failure, the risk of additional lives & equipment chance of success was too low. Its not like they pull one out of the garage and send who ever is available in 20 min to pop into space. Sad situation, but these people live with that very possibilty every day. This is the 3rd accident, they knew of 2 others so were aware of the possibility -- no matter how remote.
syl-- it made no difference how much they knew,, it was a gamble coming in. No one could repair 1 or 10K tiles. They had to come down as there is no way out at that altitude (about 30K max on a HALO jump). So,, you take your chance & pray,, and tell no one of the possibility (probability). No way any official would say "They are not going to make it" and have the entire world watching them burn. The chance may have been 1 in 100B but it had to be taken. Since tiles were missing on the return of others-- there had to be a possibility they would make it even if some were planning the clean up on the launch day.
syl-- read somewhere yesterday 'foam' is not a great description. It is sprayed on as foam but dries hard as a brick. Upon takeoff a falling piece could be like a headon collision at 150 MPH or more. Still,, tiles?? 20K of them? OK,, it worked most of the time but have they looked hard for something better?
oeo2oo-- some of that is close to or on the dime. There may be some surprises that most are not aware of. The probability of street fighting is not fun (ask any TET vet) but is certainly not as prone to the costs many suggest IMO. The author has brought every possiblility into play except the sand seperating and a new sea filling the void, and some of his are about as probable as that 'possibility'. The cost is always high-- forget $$, only count lives-- but if the US goes in the outcome may not be as quick as some believe this time but should not be as long or costly as doves & armchair privates believe. It just may piss a few allies off and bleedinghearts at home & abroad will whine for months,, but so goes war. Say a prayer for our military pers and another for a quick, decisive defeat of the enemy no matter their cost.
JMKel -- well,, I'm hearing almost the same,,, the only difference is the RE, esp commercial RE, mkts. I've been a new seller in RE for a month or so. Waiting on Saddam to fall is what I'm hearing a lot say. Seems they are looking for a war bottom and plan on jumping in hard..
I have friends, relatives, & business contacts there. From what they are telling me the <<"Silicon Valley and we are beginning to see the turn around. ">> must be at very sm company or on your block as most are happy to be holding at present levels as the least resistance is still downward on jobs, RE, business rev, new orders, etc...... Hope it continues to work out.
S M-- I wonder how many even remember BreX. It was not THAT long ago but there are some people trying to make a fast buck that have not been around even that long. Dan certainly may have-------- I remember feeling I missed out big time on BreX,,,,,, of being way too late----- then "bingo" BreX was no longer. Had it lasted another week or two it may have had a few of my bux,,,,, feel almost the same now on gold,,,,, I'm too late.
This part of your post seemed very informative,,<ggg> esp with sales (not profits) in the 4 digit range..
Silverado's most recent 10Q filing states: "The Company is in arrears of
required mineral claims and option payments for certain of its mineral
properties at August 31, 2002, in the amount of $285,500 and therefore,
the Company's rights to these properties with a carrying value of
$315,000 may be adversely affected as a result of these non-payments."
maine-- why is Gateway still alive? Take the cash & spread it among SHs,,,,,,, then they can shutout the lights & lock the door. Way past due..
dpstark-- Like you I have owned BRK for a long time. I have added to core holdings when 'swings' do not pop in the timeframe hoped for. After 9-11 I had S/Ls going off on very old shares of big companys like IBM, MSFT, GE, & etc. Alone, I put a smile on Uncle Sams face with LT cap gains. The only concern at that time about BRK was how much more can I BUY. I was able to load up on Bs from 2002 - 2035. Most of that was sold from 2525 - 2570, but some was held in the core. The only place we disagree is you lean toward "IF" something should happen to Warren and I lean toward "WHEN" it does. For that reason there is always some cash available. Some will think it is devistating instead of the ST setback it is. Heaven forbid, but if something should happen to him & Charlie at the same time,,,,,,,,,, Hell,,,, I could never have enough cash to buy enough on such a drop. Granted,,,,,, Warren is a legend,,,,, but I certainly would expect much better than GE & IBM saw when their legends departed. BRK is an anchor in many portfolios and must will never be frightened enough to have it pulled from their hands.
Thanks-- just hoping for a fast $30 or $40 per share. If not-- it will be held to the 'holding'. Would be tough to lose on that one unless Buffett has a stroke or something,,,,,,,,
Cleared a lot of profits on swings today. Dropped it all on BRKB at the close,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, please do not allow Buffett to die!
S M -- Ft Hood has emptied & refilled a couple times with both men & material.. it is a very busy place & has been for weeks,
No, he is NOT cruel,, he could have let the contract to Mrs L. Bobbitt
Actually, chainik-- we are damned good at killing ARMED people! How many towelheads have you ever seen w/o a weapon? Saddam all dressed up and carrys, Arafat sleeps with his sidearm.
Betcha-- These guys would love to have the GE strikers work,, and their decendents will have it,,
BEIJING, Jan 15, 2003 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- Two Chinese labor
activists who were charged with subversion after leading protests by tens of
thousands of laid-off workers are awaiting a verdict following a one-day trial,
a defense lawyer said Thursday.
Yao Fuxin and Xiao Yunliang went on trial Wednesday in Liaoyang, a northeastern
industrial city. Protests there in March demanding better benefits for laid-off
workers were among the largest reported since China's 1949 communist revolution.
A ruling could take a month to six weeks, though a date "hasn't been set yet,"
said Mo Shaoping, Yao's lawyer. He said that in serious cases, a ruling can take
even longer.
Charges of subversion can carry the death penalty, though such a severe
punishment would be unlikely given China's concern about its international
image.
Labor activists abroad have expressed outrage at the charges against Yao and
Xiao.
Yes montana-- most of the garbage has been thrown out. Of course, it was almost prime when the bought what began to stink telcom & other issues..
montana-- I think you are correct, it well may trade with the mkt. Int rates will have some influence also. Still I'd like it cheaper as I just reinvest divs, at least for another few years. The more shares the merrier at this point. In a few years the plan is to stop the reinvestment and have some living expenses covered (utes, taxes, insur, etc). So SP is of less interest as div,, which hopefully will neatly double by then.Historically, the current $0.05 is the LOW end.
Joe-- IMHO housing BOOMS depend on finance costs. That said, I'd not build a house for a 'boomer empty nest couple' w/o a min of 2500 sq ft and most prefer 3000+ sq ft. They NEED 2 1/2 or more baths (not basic either), & NEED 3 or more bedrooms. Not just walkin closets but walkin pantrys too. Full basements and attic access is required, laundry is no longer in the basement but has a ROOM of its own. Home offices &/or sunrooms are required. Hobby rooms are popular. Often they need aother floor or wing for parents or offspring (often called 'guests). The 50 - 70 y/o can afford it and demand it. If building for the 40 yo with a family a completely different set of requirements is desired.... and often desires out pace their pocketbook. Boomers are more into quality & comfort while the 40 yos want gingerbread. Granted-- a very general generalization from one area only,, just as the article is seeing from one set of eyes..
Since I asked for the deliveries at times ('66, '67, '68),, I thank you!
MLSFT-- for years there has been a small wad of gold and a chunk of fools gold near my desk. Sort of a reminder of metals trades, the Hunt bros, etc. Both came from my uncles mine outside of Ely NV....... Soon, the possibility of others doing the same may become prominate. I just hope they get fools gold by the ounce & not by the pound,,
Brain-- Could Osama & towelettes have promised the buttheads in NK a solar heater, 2 bannanas, & 2 virgins to cause some of the nuke threat? That was the question.. only did not call the NK buttheads previously,, Maybe I've been awake too long-- nite nite!
mlsoft <<"but AH trading is tricky - you have to find someone on the other side that
not only willing to meet your price but also is using the same ECNs as you are..">> I just throw it to Paine Webber & they can usually take care of it. No muss, no fuss and under a fee basis acct so no added fee,,,,,,,,,
