Re: think/Continuing the tradition: Hollywood Bush-whacking
All I can say is F.U.C.K. the Republican party and I will laugh my ass off when the Bush falls flat on his in a couple of years. As far as that fascist B.I.T.C.H. Schlessinger goes, I listened to her on the radio to see what she was about, and she can go straight to hell (if it really existed) as quickly as possible. The Repubs are so full of crap to try to play the victim here.
But tell me how do you really feel ???? <G>
I wholeheartedly concur!!! They can dish it out but cannot take it.
BTW - does the Green party have a website? I may be interested in doing some reading on it. Thanks.
Dennis, you old dawg. It is truly good...
Let me publically welcome you back to the boards - always good to see your posts. (BTW - I responded to your e-mail)
I feel like the family is back together now.....
spalz/Re: Sassy
You are being silly. Mikkj is the only one giving you a hard time about it. Yes, you are probably the youngest one here and we do comment about it. But as I told you before, there is something to say for age.
If you want to bag this site, do it. I will miss you here. But please do me one favor. If you are going to leave, leave. Don't be like righton and keep coming back. But, I think you have far too much taste to pull a righton <g>
spalz/mikkj
Here's the deal, Mikkj. This board is not big enough for the both of us.
That is just plain silly. The board is big enough for both of you, however, I do wonder about both of your egos.
This is a f.u.c.k.i.n.g. message board for cryin' out loud. Post whatever you want. If you don't like what someone says, here are a couple options: state your position or ignore the person. Don't let this stuff get to you. It is not worth it.
Spalz, I disagree with you most of the time, but you are intelligent and have made me think about some things. Mikkj, you and I have very similar beliefs and I respect how you have chosen to live your life and do good for others.
With that said both of you are old enough to realize that you are both being babies about this. Grow up. However, if you do leave it will be a loss to this board because I enjoy reading both of your posts (when you are not being catty.)
Spalz:
Ah, it cuts both ways, Sassy. Why weren't you so concerned when Mikkj did the exact same think you speak of?
You fight your own battles - you do a good job at it. If you two want to fight and call each other names - go for it - it is not my concern. I'm just saying when someone insults my views, I am going to call you on it.
spalz/Re: Sassy
Don't forget "naive", as that seems to be Mikkj's favorite insult.
I have no intentions of getting involved in your's and mikkj's fight. But when you also insult my political views, I will point out the arrogance of your comments.
I would love to stay and argue, but I have to go - see you tomorrow.
librarycop/smart_sassy
By the way, mikkj brought such issues into play by discussing Spall's youth and inexperience.
While that may or may not be true, you just called his views, which are very much like mine, immature and unintelligent. If you guys want to call each other names, I can't stop you. But I will intervene when you attempt to denigrate my social and political views with petty insults.
SORRY/spalz/mikkj
That last response was meant for LibraryCop, not Spalz. Sorry.
spalz/mikkj
It takes a certain amount of both maturity and intelligence to support self reliance over government dependency, and to discern the moral difference between helping people with your own energy and resources and supporting the confiscation of that which belongs to others in order to do so.
And it takes a hell of a lot of arrogance to tell someone that their views are immature and unintelligent because they differ from yours.
LC/RE: Human Nature, Greed, and Complexity. (mikkj)
Are you sure you know what libertarianism is?
Do you want me to explain it to him? <G>
Spalz/ Post 888
Nope, it wasn't me. The same error is coming up on my screen.
Never really thought you would have done that in the first place to one of meme's posts. Now, if it has been one of mikkj's........<VBG>
Maybe meme can answer for us - like she started and hit "submit post" prematurely.
WHAT IS WITH POST #888
It was written by meme, but there is no header and I can't bring it up - what's with that (or is it just me)?
Think, Spall - have you used the powers of administrator? egads.
spalz/Hey Older Members! Use age as a tool!
You are young and you do have a lot to learn - not from books - you are way smarter than me - but from life - and many of us are smarter than you on that. Age is a tool that we do use and should use. You can't discount experience.
I have to tell you what happened to me last week and it made me think of you. I was in St. Louis on business and had dinner with my cousin's son, who is 29. When he was growing up, we called him "Alex P Keaton" (Michael J Fox's character on Family Ties) because his parents were liberal Democrats and he was a conservative Republican. He, like you, is very intelligent and went on to get his PhD in Political Science (he now teaches college). Anyway, we were talking about the election and such and he told me that he was upset with the final decision - something that alarmed me. He said "I've changed." I made the statement that I have borderline Socialist tendencies and he said "I'm a full fledged Socialist now. I told you that I've changed." I dropped my fork.
I have to say that I thought of you as I see many comparisons, and chuckled to myself. There is hope for you after all !!!!
Now, before you get all out of shape, please bear in mind that I say this to you tongue-in-cheek. Don't try to beat up on this old lady. I have lots of spunk left in me to give your ass a whippin'. <g>
On a more serious note, I hope that you don't think my comments about your age are to belittle you. If you feel that way, I apologize. But many of us have lived through what you read in books about and are trying to tell you how it really was. Some of your philosophies are a repeat of what we lived through and don't want to live through it again. Reaganomics was bad enough the first time, it will be worse the second time.
Let's hope the name calling can stop - we are all passionate individuals and do get caught up in the moment. I hope we can get by without insults.
Re: Weac -Jesus Christ Superstar
I know the song because I was Judas in the show back in High School, sooooooooo long ago, but I still love singing that song - it has so much power and meaning.
Judas, eh - well I am sure that some of our fellow posters at PIMB would have a lot to say about that <G>
The whole damn album is superb. I agree with meme's comments on how it brought more kids to Christianity than the preachers.
I was involved for several years in my church folk group - music is the only way I can communicate with God, even to this day.
Indy/Re: Sassy- Jesus
Somewhere along the way man has transposed religon for spirituality. I suspect it was necessary for the many different factions to uphold that thier belief is the only true belief. More of a political, power necessity than a spiritual requirement. Ever notice how many of the self purported religous people are just plain down-right stingy, when it comes to thier socio-economic positions?
Leave it to you to hit the nail on the head.
You are absolutely right - religion is more about power than sprituality. I do know several people who are very spiritual, but not very religious (or not affliated with a specific religion) - they seem to be very caring people.
spalz/Re: PIMB Server Busy
Must be me. I did as you advised and deleted the cookies, and still am getting the "Server Busy" message. I can only get to the "old" PIMB via the PI website. I don't know what else I can do, but thanks for the advice.
Jesus Christ Superstar
Anyone who reads my posts knows that I am not an overtly religious person. Given that, I listened to JC Superstar yesterday and after 30 years (yeah, can you believe it has been around that long) it continues to have a deep affect on me.
"The Garden of Gethsemane" still brings tears to my eyes and "39 Lashes" leading into the intro of "Jesus Christ Superstar" still sends chills up my spine. Great music.
I remember when it was first released and was very contraversial. I remember my dad thinking that it was blasphemous and hated "King Herod's Song". But, when you listen to it, it really tells us the story in the Bible of Christ's death. In the religion of sassy, I make sure I listen to it at least once during the Lenten season (although I am a few days early this year).
PIMB Server Busy
I have tried a couple of times this week to get to the PIMB and keep getting the message that the Server is Busy. Is that because go.com stopped supporting it? When I went to the Message Board through PI's website, I got to it, but it was the "old" board. Is that the only thing that is left?
I was out of town all last week, so spent little time on-line - was this discussed and I missed it?
spalz/sassy/patlee/Re: Mikkj
At what point does it change from paying your fair share to outright slavery? There certainly are no limitations placed on the 16th Amendment. What good is your freedom to speak if you are a slave to the state?
I always thought that I was cynnical, but you take the cake <g>
I just don't believe the gov't has ever been that intrusive in my life for me to think that I am a slave, or ever will be one. I consider myself to be damn lucky that I live here. Read the newspaper and watch the news - what some of those other countries go through is slavery.
patlee/Re: Mikkj - smart_sassy
I have never stated that I wanted to live in a Socialist society -every conservative labels me that way because I don't agree with their agenda. Socialism would not work here because we are too large a country - but it does work, mainly in the Scandanavian countries.
My point is that you can take away my money (and I don't view paying taxes as "taking away my money"), but don't take away my other freedoms - the freedom to speak is more important to me.
spalz/Re: mikkj
Both parties are guilty of this. The Conservatives choose to impose their morality on others, through the various wars against victimless acts as well as their constant violation of the First Amendment. However, as bad as this is, the Liberals are much worse. They are moving us closer and closer to Socialism with every passing day.
I know we disagree vehemently on this, but I would rather live in a Socialist society, sharing the wealth, then to have the money, but not personal freedom. Freedom is everything. More people have fought for freedom, than money.
spalz/Brady Law is a failure
This one's for you, sassy
I am touched when you think about me <g>
Well, mikkj and meme said it better than I could have. I find it ludicrious to read that this person attributed a "slight increase of rape" on the Brady Law.
The article also said that 93% of guns used in crimes are obtained illegally. But that leaves 7% - that may not be a big number to you, unless you are included in it. Can the Brady Law actually stop, or impede 7% of the crimes?
Sorry, it did nothing to change my viewpoint. But, you knew that <VBG>
derelivate/I think I fixed the problem
It worked - you can see the hyperlink now.
One more comment (which you can ignore and tell me to go to hell if you like) - the red on blue is hard to read - at least when you have the red in small print. Maybe it's me.
You still have done a much better job than I could ever imagine.
dereleviate
Have not heard from you in a while - glad to see that you are among the living.
It did not take long to open the site - it must be you <g>
One comment - your links on your quote section - I was trying to point on the dot, and not getting anything - I could not see that there was a link to the right of the dot - I fell upon it by chance (hope that makes sense)
will stop and read when i have more time - busy here today.
Think_Other Boards???
Boy, you sure do ask a lot of questions.
The Board Raiders - they hang at several ABC boards to harass people. The latest is the GMA board. They also love to go to the GMA Recipie Board and harass the little ladies exchanging recipies. I have also heard them mention the John Stossel board. I don't know what the "political" board is.
I think Indy is still getting settled in his new house. He has been here a bit, but not much.
I'm doing fine - and you? Actually, my posts will be limited next week, as I will be out of town for work all week. A few posts in the evening will be the best I can do.
How's the family?
spalz/Re: John Stossel's TV Special
I read the stuff on Stossel's board - in fact, that is where I found this article and about FAIR.
I was going to ask you if you knew about that MB - guess you do.
Hey, now I have a new source to counteract Neal Boortz! <G>
John Stossel's TV Special
Spalz and Meme - I think you may want to read this article - the guy is criticizing Stossel's special. I did not see the special, so I can't comment. If Stossel is a Liberatarian, then I probably don't like all of his viewpoints and say "All hail FAIR"
BTW, had anyone ever heard of this organization? I need to read more about them and what is on their website.
http://www.fair.org/activism/stossel-goes-to-washington.html
Re:Meme - Yukon
Brilliant and thoughtful, loving and protective. He was the only dog I've ever owned or even heard of, for that matter, to hit a car, not get hit by a car.
Well, if you would have changed that story to have occurred in Pittsburgh, I would have said that I was the driver.
A similar situation happened to me - I was in my late teens or early 20's when my dad had bought a new car. I asked to take it for a spin. We (me, mom and dad) were driving down the street when - bam - and then the sound that I hate - a screaming and crying dog. I stopped in the middle of the street, but the dog ran off. I believe that he was OK, but managed to dent the side of my dad's brand new car - just minutes old. I felt horrible for both my dad and the dog. But I kept saying, "but the dog hit me, not vice versa".
I assume the dog recovered, but I am not so sure about my dad.....
Indy/Re: Sassy,Republicans and porn.
They are all suffering from penis envy and consequently have a little know disease called, penile photoptophobia. The smaller the bidness, the bigger the ego.
LMAO. Penile Photophobia? You crack me up. So glad that you are back!!!
spalz/Re: mikkj
What do we need the Soviets for when we have the Democrats? Just kidding
Lord knows we can't rely on the Republicans to come up with some good porn <G>
mikkj/Hey Guys, I just remembered and interesting story.
I remember reading a science fiction story back in the 1950's (I think, it could have been early 60's) about how the U.S.S.R. was going to put up a sattelite in geosynchronous orbit over the U.S. and broadcast uncensored porn, homosexuality, and other such evil, decadent, things on T.V. to destroy our society. Kinda makes you miss them, doesn't it.
(Sniff) God, I miss the Cold War <VBG>
Glad to see you back.
spalz/Re: the8thtower -
Much of Jewish law is based on concepts that we have no idea the reasoning behind.
So, Judiasm and Catholicism are much more alike than I thought <G>
8th/Indy, Sassy, Re: Strom
Wasn't just this year that he told everyone that he was only 80 and still married, when in fact, he is 98 and not married (I am assuming divorced, but don't know).
I agree, the old guys on The Muppet Show look better.
No, I am not familar with the song.
Indy - Orgasm Machine
Who needs a machine - after reading your response to Meme - well, let me just say "it was great for me" <G> I am soooo sorry I quit smoking, cuz I sure need one now.
8th/Strom
I also have a theory on Strom...no one has the heart to vote him out of office.
But, would he know the difference?
Sheriff Joe of Maricopa County
Did anyone watch 60 Minutes last night? There was a segment on Sheriff Joe Aripano (or however he spells his last name).
You know, I might (just might) not have an issue with this guy if the recidivism rate was low, but it is not. It is no different than other jails. This is just a mean ******* on a power trip.
Indy, you live in Maricopa County, don't you? The report says how he preys on the old people's mind about crime and the bad guy, which is why they love him. But the bottom line is - he is not doing a good job.
If this cost me so much money in lawsuits, I'd vote his ass out of office. Why do people have a love affair with this guy?
indy/Re:-Spallz, Sassy. This bored is dead.
Sweetie, so good to hear your voice (well, you know what I mean). Yeah, moves can be a pain in the ass. When I moved 7 years ago, I bought a house big enough to accumulate my sh!t for the next 30 years because I ain't moving again.
Can't wait until you are back full time - we all miss you. Still no word from Dennis, though. I am really worried about him - he normally responds to my e-mails, but hasn't.
spalz/This bored is dead.
I agree. I was going to make that comment yesterday, but thought I would hold out for one more day.
First we lose Dennis, now Indy. We need to rally here guys.
pat/Snooper Bowl
If the ACLU (American Criminals & Liberals United) is against it, then it must be a good thing.
I guess that is the type of answer I would expect from an individual who thinks Bush is doing a great job so far.
You are not much into your own civil liberties, are you?
Snooper Bowl
Got this from the ACLU site (thanks, Think for the address) - what do you guys think? Invasion of privacy or good police efforts? Is Big Brother watching?
MIAMI--In a letter sent to Tampa city officials today, the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida questioned the police department's use of intrusive surveillance technology at last Sunday's Super Bowl and called for public hearings on the use of security systems that may jeopardize the public's privacy rights.
"While everyone has a reduced expectation of privacy while in public, including sitting in the stands with one's family at a Sunday afternoon football game, we do not believe that the public understands or accepts that they will be subjected to a computerized police line-up," the ACLU said in a letter signed by Florida Executive Director Howard L. Simon and Michael E. Pheneger of the ACLU's Greater Tampa Chapter.
The public records request, addressed to Mayor Dick A. Greco and City Council Chairman Charlie Miranda, urged the city to turn over documents detailing how the video images captured by Tampa police at Sunday's Super Bowl will be used, stored and disposed of, and exactly which police databases were cross-matched with the digitized faces of thousands of unsuspecting sports fans and residents across town.
In the letter, the ACLU also asks the Tampa City Council to schedule public meetings to discuss the complicated surveillance practice, and to hear from citizens who may be concerned about possible Fourth Amendment violations.
The letter encouraged government officials to "exercise some control over the rapidly developing use of sophisticated face-identification systems before we become a society under constant surveillance."
While similar surveillance systems are used at convenience stores, shopping malls and schools across the country, citizens are generally informed that the area is under surveillance and of the camera's whereabouts, unlike the thousands of sports fans who entered Raymond James Stadium for the big game.
As they entered at turnstiles, fans had no clue their faces were being silently digitized and matched up against the mug shots of criminals and terrorists, or that they could be questioned or detained by officers.
The full text of the letter can be read online at:
