I believe Dell's laptops are all built in Asia.
Thanks NYBob, now let's see what Jaguar Financial's next move will be!
Good for you cash.
What's your strategy on NT? When would you cash in profits or when would you cut your loss?
But what is the bottom? A lot of people claimed the bottom was .80. And that the shorts were covering at .46/.47 and that was the bottom. Now at .27 this is again the bottom?
I don't agree that good news will make the stock double or triple in value. However a good quarterly report will make the stock jump up, perhaps double eventually. But will the stock be lower than .20 by then?
The only way we'll see this stock go over $1 is with a reverse-split.
We can all claim the shorts will cover, say Nortel will sell assets, Nortel will have big sales contract, talk about market cap, enough cash to operate for a while, etc, etc. But remember we were saying the same thing 6 months ago when the stock was 10 times higher. It could happen again! It can go down to .027.
Ha, I see, a reverse split!
cash, a stock that went from $120 to $0.50, then reversed-split and is now back down to $0.27 is a winner?
truth, how can shorts be caught with their pants down? Even if the stock doubles all of a sudden, they'll come out of this laughing with all the profits they made.
Right now the only ones being caught woth their pants down are the ones who bought more at $0.46-$0.47 just a few weeks ago.
napolm01, ther were plenty of good news coming out of Nortel when the stock went from $120 to $0.50 (pre-RS).
Nothing has changed! Good news mean nothing, profitability does!
WalMart shoppers and the iPhone just don't fit in my head.
Marine, the possibility of picking local talent is the only probable truth in that store. Thanks for posting it.
I'm off on a last-minute trip to Asia. I'll be seeing you in 10 days or so. I hope all the longs get a break between now and then. I'm not wishing the shorts anything, they've already made enough $$$ on this one.
(EDIT) .29 now OUCH!!!!!
2 Reasons Nortel is Exploring Bankruptcy Protection
by: Mark Evans December 17, 2008
There’s an interesting article in the Wall St. Journal looking at why Nortel (NT) is exploring bankruptcy protection even though it has enough cash to last until 2010.
The two big issues are access to debtor-in-possession financing, and the pension-fund deficit, which could climb as high as $2.6-billion from $1.1-billion at end of 2007.
UBS Securities analyst Nikos Theodosopoulos said the inability to access the DIP market is a huge issue. Among the companies with cash that still filed for bankruptcy protection was Tribune Co.
“If you are Nortel and you want to preserve the company, you should file earlier so you can keep the company running and renegotiate with debt holders, and not run out of cash and be forced to sell assets and liquidate,” he told the WSJ.
I can't believe NT hit .31 yesterday. I feel bad for the people who bought at .46 or .47 thinking that was the bottom.
There's only one bottom and it's 0.
Anyone being watching CREE lately?
http://www.fool.com/investing/value/2008/12/05/top-rated-stocks-that-treat-shareholders-right.aspx
No, but I am always interested in other people's opinions and reasonings.
So, what do you think on the movement of the stock?
Thanks! This is the part I was most interested in.
There are those that disagree, chief among them corporate raider Vic Albioni of Toronto-based Jaguar Financial Corp. He's still confident that he can take over HudBay's board and quash the merger. Albioni maintains that all the major shareholders he speaks with are opposed to buying Lundin in the middle of a bear market. "I believe this deal will get cancelled or altered before it sees daylight," Albioni said.
Yeah, I saw that. Hudbay management is doing what they wanted to do and what they said they were going to do. I'm just curious as to whether or not Jaguar will put up with it.
Marine, what's your opinion on this stock's movement? Do you think it will rise short-term and mid-term? How high do you think?
"Nortel posted a loss of more than $3 billion in its last quarterly filing. It is in the midst of a restructuring plan designed to bring costs down by $400 million."
Hmmm, it sure looks like Nortel has a long way before becoming profitable.
Is NT a Zero?
http://seekingalpha.com/article/110955-zero-is-the-new-buy?source=yahoo
Now "zero" ratings are proliferating. RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Sue slapped a target price of zero on telecommunications-equipment maker Nortel Networks
I'm watching this one very closely. I see no reason why it can not get as high as last year.
NYBob, what do you think, you think Jaguar will allow the Lundin deal to go through?
Time to start watching this one again IMO.
Anyone still cares about this stock?
Perhaps but it carries a huge float, hard to move!
Not only at Dell are they worried about sales this time of year!

"time to cover"? I believe you said the same thing 10 days ago when the stock was 40% higher.
I'm not flaming you, I respect your opinion, I just want to know what makes today different than 10 days ago?
Marine, I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm not into NT.... or anything else for that matter.
What is your opinion on NT, you think it will be back up to $0.50 or even $1 one day (pre-RS of course)?
Perhaps Marine, but "everything" won't make you make money, only the price of the stock will.
BTW can you define "soon"?
I don't agree. You'll make/lose money only once you've sold. Any Short who "covers" right now can claim to have made money.
Yikes! It is ugly out there!
To think that anyone who bought just four trading days ago have lost (on paper) 40% of their investment.
Cover time or cashing in for the shorts?
Yep, but only if the stock does go up! Whether or not it will, you don't know and I don't know.
Perhaps, perhaps, but lately they're the ones who have been making money.
We both can say this and that will happen but nothing is sure. The one thing that is sure is that the shorts have been making money for the last three months.
Well I wouldn't short it now just as I wouldn't short it a few months ago at $5. I take short positions on indexes only. But you have to admit the shorts have been right lately and they've been making $$$.
I'm not sure what the problem is or if there is one. I write about the possibility of a RS, Truth writes about the shorts having to cover, you write about it being a buyout candidate, etc. Isn't all part of a discussion on the stock?
Marine, RS is a strong possibility. Since this board is to discuss the stock I believe RS to be a valid topic, no?
I don't need to cover, I'm not shorting it.
How long do you think it will take to reach your target of $5 pre-RS?
Do you think a RS is good news?
The announcement of a RS alone will cause enough of a drop for the shorts to cash in on their gain, no need to "cover".
