Hi bbotcs, I couldnt find any study that says 20%. I found this, which isnt very confidence inspiring.
https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/pfizerbiontech-covid-19-vaccine-effectiveness-drops-after-6-months-study-2021-10-04/
Right now in Maryland, 1/3 of all new cases are children who cant be vaccinated. So out of the 1000 new daily cases, 300 are kids and only 700 are adults. This is starting to run its course and the 7-day new cases average is slowly dropping.
I live in areas where the new case count per 100,000 is about 10 so even with a decreasing effectiveness, I'm fairly safe.
If people continue to get vaccinated (about 5000 per day here), we should be in good shape soon - and hopefully a booster shot wont even be necessary.
Hi Al, yes I understand that numbers can be both interpreted and misinterpreted. But if you go to each state's coronavirus dashboard, you'll find - when they publish it - that the unvaccinated are 5 - 10 times more likely to test positive for the virus than unvaccinated people are. What happens after that (i.e. hosptialization or death likelihood) is dissapointing to say the least.
But the best way to greatly decrease your chances of going to the hospital or dying of covid is to be vaccinated - and wear a mask indoors (and sadly to limit how long you spend in an indoor public place). Or live in a relatively covid free bubble which you appear to be doing.
The good news is that new daily cases are plummeting as are hospitalizations. I'm not even sure I'll need a booster shot this winter as Maryland's vaccinated percentage might make it unnecessary.
GM Al, I hope this article straightens things out for you.
https://www.bbc.com/news/health-57610998
For starters, the headline in what you posted is not true. It is only saying that for fully vaccinated people who come down with the Delta variant serious enough to be hospitalized, then yes then there are a lot of deaths.
But what the conspiracy article you posted doesnt point out is that if you're vaccinated, you only have an 8% chance of coming down with any form of Covid. Which is in line with the 90%+ effectiveness of the vaccine.
Which greatly reduced your chances of dying from it.
Hi Al, yes people are allowed to choose. They can choose to be patriotic and support our country's efforts to overcome this pandemic or they can choose not to.
And that only .5% of all covid deaths in the UK were of people who were vaccinated.
Hi Al, you say "Unlike some of them we unvaxxed do not wish harm on the vaxxed."
But by being unvaxxed in urban/suburban settings (rural lifers like you are ok I guess), they are wishing harm on the vaxxed by giving the virus a base from which to spread and infect others.
In addition to that, it forces businesses like restaurants to operate at less than full capacity which "kills" them too.
And as I've said before the misguided campaign to convince people to not get vaccinated is unpatriotic.
GM Al, if its too tough to believe there's a good chance its not true.
https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/572011-05-percent-of-covid-19-fatalities-in-uk-this-year-were-breakthrough-deaths
https://www.bbc.com/news/health-58545548
The vaccine works, and although its not 100% effective and was never advertised to be so, it's far better to be vaccinated than not vaccinated.
Also - it's impossible for a virus to mutate it there's no one available to host it. Take a look at Spain and Portugal's daily new case data. Vaccinations plus indoor masking clearly works.
So the correct response is to get vaccinated while looking for alternatives. The incorrect response is to not get vaccinated and hope you dont die or cause other to die before an alternative is available.
Good one.
Hi Ayock, it doesnt even have to be remote workers. There are plenty of non-working women who could move to red state America with the help of the working men who support them.
You cant expect things to change by living in safe-space coastal America, going to book club, drinking wine, and posting on the Internet.
If people want to influence change, they need to leave there safe space echo chambers and invade the places they want to change.
But that's not how they think. They expect things to change by simply demanding that they change.
GM Al,
In a shocking announcement, the CDC actually confessed to the fact that the vaccines it has been aggressively pushing as the final solution to the Chinese Virus were nothing but a medical hoax, providing no protection against infection or spread.
Does QAnon America really believe this ? If so, its sad cuz its untrue.
Do the vaccine provide permanent 100% immunity ? I dont think anyone ever claimed that. The vaccines are 90% effective (meaning there's a 10% change you can contract Covid even if vaccinated). And just like the flu shot, yes you'll probably need boosters every year.
But since the vast majority of people hospitalized with sever symptoms or are dying from Covid are unvaccinated - this means the vaccine provides a great deal of protection.
Its just not 100% protection.
Hi arizona1, either way Trump lost the popular vote by a significant amount. Not sure why we'd still be talking about 2016, but whatever.
Trump lost by 7 million votes not two million.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidential_election
Lol. Since i'm not mistaken about the repeated attacks on the federal courthouse, there isn't much to say back to you Ayock, other than again you would think progressives would be glad that no one showed up to the J6 rally and it was totally peaceful.
And thanks for that "go-to" systemic racism accusation. Since im not a racist and the US isn't systemically racist, as in "if you say a lie often enough it becomes the truth", there's nothing for me to say about that either.
Sooo wouldnt the progressive left consider this a good thing ? or is it a bad thing cuz it doesn't affirm their need to believe that millions of right wing white Ssupremisists are ready to attack the capitol building ?
be thankful that not everyone is as hate filled as the people who spent 4 months attacking a Portland federal courthouse almost every night.
hi bbotcs, I know Baltimore has a bad reputation, but if you ever want to feel proud of the place, just watch this episode.
https://samantha-brown.com/episodes/season-2-2/baltimore-maryland/
Samantha Brown's shows don't do too much for me, but this episode was GREAT ! And of course, you can find it on MPT Create :)
Hi Al, interesting title of that article ...
https://www.cnn.com/videos/health/2020/12/22/fauci-vaccinated-against-coronavirus-azar-newday-vpx.cnn
I dont know what's going on but I flipped it for .50/share in just a few minutes.
Well I would have gone with "I'm still getting over losing my freedom to drive drunk without serious legal consequences" ... but some people prefer a more angry approach.
In response to as for the Dems are failures at handling the CCP virus. .... I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Dems got vaccinated. The failure is squarely in the lap of the people who chose not to get vaccinated.
The good news is for the past few days the delta virus new cases stat have been dropping. Funny how another few percent more people becoming immune from getting the virus plus a few percent more people getting vaccinated squelches viral spread.
Americans Have Traded Their Freedoms for Safety from COVID, And Now We Have Neither
Hi Al, I think Matt Agorist missed his calling to be a writer for the "Bee".
Cuz no freedoms have been traded and we are far safer from Covid than we were 10 months ago. If you choose to wear a mask and get vaccinated that is.
Did you know that 400,000 US solders were killed in WW II ?
The good news is that with every passing day, more people are being patriotic and supporting the war effort against COVID.
GM Al, does it matter if the number is "only" 400,000 instead of 600,000 ?
and I agree with arizona1, for the 1st month, there were many deaths that probably were recorded as the flu.
During WW II, people were forced to ration goods to support the war effort. Imagine if Red State America refused to do so because it was an infringement of their personal liberties.
Sometimes the need to support the US, the safety of its citizens, and the greater good needs to prevail over personal choice.
how many places are proof of vaccination required for any vaccine other than the Covid one.
How many viruses are killing 1000+ people per day and have killed 600,000+ people in the past 18 months ?
GM Al, Ironically, Texas (as do most states) requires all college students to be vaccinated for meningitis in order to attend classes ....
https://dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school/college-requirements.aspx
So the "papers please" story line regarding covid vaccination is pretty weak.
Hi bbotcs, yeah I think the people ruling Texas are clueless in regards to the unintended consequences of their abortion law.
In fact for a state that has such a decent tech industry, it's become a fairly backward thinking place.
Hi arizona1, it's nice of CNN to promote the weaponization of consent.
Of course the millions of women who earn a living through monitization of their consent consent probably won't go along with it, but fortunately the Democratic party has a better approach: https://www.tag24.com/politics/us-politics/pelosi-announces-us-house-vote-on-abortion-access-bill-in-effort-to-fight-texas-near-total-ban-2106283
hi arizona1, you act like you have no idea that women have been monitizing and weaponizing their consent since .... like forever.
Which is why Bette Midler's call to arms is so hilarious.
Bette Midler recommends 'all women refuse to have sex with men' in protest of Texas abortion law
I'm not sure what planet she lives on but on planet Earth it's pretty much the norm. Certainly the allegations against ex-Gov Cuomo back that up.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/bette-midler-recommends-women-refuse-174524656.html
Wow, the antivax misinformation machine is in high gear this weekend Russia and China must think with our evacuation of Afghanistan, our minds must be weak and moldable like silly putty.
Hi darron, I dont disagree that there was an economic underpinning to all of this. But the Missouri Compromise and Compromise of 1850 make it clear that the north and northern congressmen had issues with the spread of slave states.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compromise_of_1850
Back many years ago, our history books gave a list of "Top 10 reasons for the civil war". Slavery was no where near the top of the list.
I guess that depends on who wrote that text book. Cuz let me tell you, I grew up being told THE ONLY REASON for the civil war was because of slavery. But the reality is the reason why the south seceded was because of slavery. The reason why Lincoln waged the Civil War was to preserve the Union.
By the way, if you go to the actual declarations of secession that the confederate states published, that all cited "way of life" or the right to own slaves.
So I dont really care what any history book says. The facts are the facts.
Hi darron, thanks for posting that. Lincoln's number 1 objective was to preserve the union, but he was nominated by a party that was created to end slavery. So abolishing slavery was a part of preserving the union.
As for the racist/propaganda version of american history our kids are learning - most kids going back forever have been taught "Americans can do no wrong". I have friends who grew up in Florida in the early 60s and "slavery in the South" problem was totally skipped over.
I grew up in Massachusetts so I was taught about slavery, segregation in the south, but also about the strong abolitionist movement that started in the 1820s and also how horribly we treated the native americans.
It would be nice if we taught kids the complete picture of our history - no just one skewed version of it.
Here's a fun history fact for you: We didnt really win the War of 1812. First - most of the fighting really occurred in 1814 so right off the bat the name of the war isnt even correct. Second, the British burned DC to the ground. Third, our venture into Canada was a disaster. But most importantly, the British withdrew ..... to fight Napoleon. We didnt beat them.
But wait there's more - The famous Battle of New Orleans occurred just before the peace treaty between England and the US had been signed. But since it was signed in Europe, the news of the war ending and the victory in New Orleans arrived in the northeast almost at the same time. So the newspaper story was "Jackson Victorious in New Orleans - War is Over !"
This timing made him a shoo in to get elected president. How about that ?
The Qanon paradox --- wont get a 5 second vaccination but end up getting an IV for 10 days.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/demand-antibody-treatment-used-trump-103300126.html
Pretty crazy !
Hi bbotcs, that's why I'm gonna wait till Dec or Jan for the booster. I'll let the panicky vaccine hunters - like my friends - get theirs first.
As for the masks, Montgomery County has them mandatory for all indoor locations and yeah I think for the counties around I-95 they should be. For rural areas ... not as big a deal if people are vaccinated.
The masks arent to protect the customers. They're to protect the people working at the places, so I mask up out of consideration for them.
Oregon counties request trucks for bodies as deaths climb
Fewer "Proud Boys" at the next rally in Portland ?
https://news.yahoo.com/oregon-counties-request-trucks-bodies-200105324.html
Hi Al, well of course the places you want people to get vaccinated the most is in high density areas ... and places where large motorcycle rallies are held ... and antivax strongholds like Bend Oregon.
Hi Al, that's because according to the CDC, as of Wednesday, Aug. 25, Pennsylvania ranks 5th among all 50 states for total doses administered. According to the CDC, as of Wednesday, Aug. 25, 65.2% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated. So I'm guessing 75% have at least one shot.
https://www.pa.gov/guides/get-vaccinated/
And there you have it.
Hi Al, there's no pandemic crisis in Maryland.
I wonder why.
Hi Al, I dont trust the government, but I trust the data and what it means.
Florida adds 1,727 COVID-19 deaths in 7 days, most since pandemic began
Florida has 4.5 times as many people as Maryland but an adult vaccination rate of about 50% vs. Maryland's 70%+ rate.
Maryland has 8 - 10 deaths per day so lets say 60 deaths per week. That means Florida should have 260 death per week - not 1700 ..... if they had a 70%+ vaccination rate.
So yes, big pharma is getting rich, so is anyone in real estate, or the stock market. Life isnt fair. But to use "big pharma is getting rich" (by the way with money ALREADY SPENT TO BUY VACCINES), as an excuse not to get vaccinated ..... is illogical.
As long as we agree their vaccination rate is lower than it should be, that's all that matters.
hi all, its sad that some website publishers can't make the distinction between contracting the virus and being hospitalized or dying as a result if it.
coming down with the flu, even the bad case of it I had in Jan 2019, isn't a big deal. going to an ICU or dying from it is.
if vaccinated people can host and transmit the D variant, then its all more important for people to get vaccinated.
so they don't die from it. like people in Florida, Louisiana, and Oregon are.
again, thanks for the info. as is typical, the media has misrepresented the medication. although I suspect based on other stories, a lot of people are taking the version prescribed for animals.
Thanks for clarifying that. It was tough to find a website that says there's a people version of Ivermectin , but I finally found a fairly trustworthy site.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/ivermectin-oral-route/description/drg-20064397#:~:text=Ivermectin%20is%20used%20in%20the%20treatment%20of%20certain,and%20then%20killing%20the%20offspring%20of%20adult%20worms.
Of course the question that still needs to be answered is - if someone is willing to take something to prevent covid with uncertain results - WHY NOT JUST GET VACCINATED and get a much much higher (like 90%+) chance of prevention ?
Its foolish, unamerican behavior.
