AQI: Somebody knows something..
(at least the guy or gal that paid me 1.77 for mine a week or so ago for sure!!)
Trusts starting to recover.. SU has been uP Down uP and trusts have slowly changed. Have to see how it goes next week, might be a buying opt.
Enjoy your weekends all!
B
No Argentina here... but AQI is certainly climbing. That was the "underwater for over a year junk". Bot at 230, sold some in the mid 230s but then last round was in the 177 range. So I am wondering about the rest of it. Might be a last call for all I know..
Slowly but surely ridding myself of the junk..
B
EDIT: Sorry, that was suppose to be 130, and 130s.. took a while but made money..
What a difference a few hours make.. everything was uP nice this morning between 930-10.. now not much doing that well for me.
Surprised the DJI is still above 10K with a bunch of the Dow stocks going down the tubes. Though nice turn around with PFE today (how long it lasts is another question). GM - watching.. always watching
OT: Had to chuckle when I saw your PAL pick. I have a bunch of DVDs in PAL (european; sans france) format and want to convert to NTSC (NA/Japan) (akin to water into wine). So was gonna pull a joke about that. Funny thing, not only is there a stock symbol PAL (as you posted) but one for NTSC as well. I think I have wasted more time that I should with that conversion, but she has me and until I can do it successfully I cannot let go..
B
Hmm.. going into the book business perhaps? An author? Title "how not to day trade.. sell low.. buy higher.." LOL!!
BTW: Was looking at a nice breakout (around Sept 1) for RRI. Oh well. Gotta do what Judge Judy would say.. put a period at the end of that one and move on.. chuckle!
(Way OT: Author - there were a couple of Columbos with authors/writers etc. On Millionaire one of the questions was:
Viewers never find out the first name of which of these TV crime-solvers? a) Banacek b) Columbo c) Mannix d) Matlock.
I yelled out Columbo. Never seen the other shows save for 20 minutes of Matlock, but I have seen almost every Columbo many many times and that was something you just never knew. Not even a question. I got it right. The guy on the show didn't.
Funny, while I posted this I wanted the exact question so I googled it.. not only found the right question but the guy who actually was on the hot plate..
http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston/news_features/other_stories/multipage/documents/01836989.htm
Google.. the mania continues.
B
CDE: Told the scalper to screw the penny.. I bot in at 4.13-4.14. Not much, plus already have my stop (goodtil 1028).
B
GE leading DJI because Cruise and Holmes are expecting?
Funny, AXP was the only positive stock on the DJI yesterday.
GE leading the pack today. Trusts are recovering from the morning lows. I find it all funny how XOM is up and the trusts/suncor are down.. just funny. Overreaction on the trusts I figure. Was thinking of adding some Acclaim. But still has $2 to make up from the weekly high..
Wayne - newer hardware must make us smarter - they add new devices which we have set up and/or then have to maintain. ie I have a problem transferring from my video camera via firewire.. can you help me? Also means more wasted time. If computers are to save us time, why am I, while home, sitting in front of it 247? Chuckle. And I haven't even thought about (but should have already) getting a digital camera. Imagine all the time to go through those thousands of pictures sorting and grouping. I watch David Chalk's show, and he says the greatest thing with the digital cameras "just take lots and lots of pictures and then you can just erase them -- no cost". True. But take lots and lots and lots of pictures of your kids. You'll never erase them.
CD -- Too bad you couldn't make the show/after show dinner this past weekend... sadly I didn't get to see Kirby nor Spots either.
Hi Louis..
B
(Glad Cruise is no longer with Cruz.. I am not sure if I saw that combo's result on Conan with "what would happen if these two had a baby" ... but I sure am laughing just thinking about it..)
UGLY!!!!!
Was at the Resource show in Toronto. (There are people out there that actually wake up and as they are going to get some coffee, stub their toes on gold bullion!!!!
Someone (investor I ate with) mentioned CWC. Apparently "buying on the way up". Masochist for sure.
Paul van Eden <sp?> spoke about irrational exuberance with the uranium price. That there are only so many generators in production today.. and it takes 15 years to build a reactor. Thinks it is crazy that everyone is ramping up the price of Uranium so much for something that will be more important in say, 15 years. Some of the gang I was with were negative to his speech. I didn't think the talk was so crazy. His PoV is "I would rather look at the back page (gold) than the front (uranium; copper) when looking for investment opps." Nothing wrong with value. Depends on your time horizon.
I was at a talk about uranium pricing.. learned that there are about 4 major enrichment companies (didn't get the names though-was a pricing service and they weren't in the business of promoting). Learned something about the process anyways. (Like oil to refineries, I was unaware of the processing of Uranium).
Kaiser had a good presentation on his expectations for Gold. consensus overall is - 450 is base and looking for a lot higher. Even a gloomster talking about 30s style depression.. not bullish on commodities but very bullish on gold. "Lot higher"..
Otherwise a bit ho hum. Got a smile out of Jay Taylor while he was talking to someone else.. as I filled in his form for a freebie newsletter, I noticed his pen was from the Paris hotel in Vegas. "Nice pen," I said.
Oh yeah, and I will be cold and hungry this winter since I will not be able to afford NG.. (maybe the trusts can help me..)
B
Couple of things (FRANK?!)
McDermott (Rebuilding wells in the Gulf) MDR. Looking at it personally.
Also CWC.V IPO'ed last week. Heard about it. No personal interest.

Metallica Resources Clears Another Hurdle On Cerro San Pedro Project, Mexico
Ed: JUNK IS MOVING!!! If you're on the road and a road runner goes meep meep...
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2005--Metallica Resources Inc. (TSX:MR - News; AMEX:MRB - News) today reported that its Mexican subsidiary, MSX, has received the required annual renewal of its explosives operating, or blasting, permit from SEDENA (Secretaria de Defensa National) for the Cerro San Pedro project. However, due to a legal appeal pending against SEDENA, the use of explosives is limited to land owned by MSX, which includes the processing area. The use of explosives on ground owned communally by the ejido of Cerro de San Pedro, which includes the pit area and the access road to the pit, is still prohibited pending the outcome of the appeal, which is expected by the end of October. SEDENA has twice previously prevailed in the case under appeal.

Pretty funny alright. // Acclaim Merger..
I used the Mach3 the bot the Mach3Turbo blades. Now they have the battery operated thing. Haven't gone near that - figure the blades/handle config must be different. The cost is too high.
I tried Schick a year or so ago (their disposable 3 blade) and actually liked them. The only problem (as I get stuck with now and again) is that I bot the Mach3Turbo at Costco - takes forever to get through the box.
My problem is - last day I shave is Thursday AM - then the next is Monday AM. Monday is OK, but Tuesday-Thursday is HELL. Razor burn all the time. Schick also gave me the burn from memory, but not as bad and just as good a shave at, what I believe, at a better price.
Lately I have used warm water on my face - then shaving lotion then each time I clean the blade in hot water then run it under COLD then shave a bit more. Found that helps. Anyways, I figure I will be shaving for a while so I will try the wire stuff too - the "closeness" today isn't as important as the burns/scrapes/cuts etc. But yes, the Mach3Turbo definitely has been a good close shave razor. (part of the issue tends to be also the lotion used. I have a chit load of that too from another purchase - but using an aftershave product - that has no alcohol, perfume and actually contains ASA to help bring down the burn)
Oh, Acclaim and StarPoint have merged. I have a nice sized position (most in the RESP) of Acclaim.
Acclaim and StarPoint to merge to create a new benchmark energy trust; seek NYSE listing; create growth-oriented Exploreco

Ed: BTW, I always chuckle with your signature. Everytime I read it, I think of the movie Quiz Show.. Herb having to say "On the Waterfront" instead of "Marty"...
Never enough computer time..
Reminds me of the line from Pulp Fiction.. anytime is a good time for pie (truely a great film)
Here is a daily chart..
Not 100% on the MACD there. But the stochastics is coming down. And the price action is on the downside..
And the weekly again..
The big thing is the MACD is around zero and the ADX is below the directional lines. I am just thinking of an upside breakout.
Quote from Elder
"The single best signal of the Directional system comes after ADX falls below both Directional lines. The longer it stays there, the stronger the base for the next move. When ADX rallies from below both Directional lines, it shows that the market is waking up from a lull."
Just asking for thoughts is all. Timeframe? A trade. Like a missed trade in GM. Nothing for the long haul. No move yet, just observing.
Walmart is on my list to watch. The earl prices are killing the trips out. I would expect more airline woes. Cripes, I actually am starting to drive slower, have the windows closed when moving faster, and taking more planned (many stop) trips. And I don't drive a guzzler either.
Thanks for the valueline link Frank. The Dow30 is a short list to review, very liquid and the most widely watched. Just something to watch.
Thanks Chary..
B
LOL! I find them overly sensative to any form of criticism
You mean Chip is overly sensative to any form of criticism?
You said it sister! I had a few issues too. Too defensive. The product is solid but outline any weaknesses (for improvement) and stand back..
Anyways, best is to try and remember the steps and just email them.
OT slightly.. I have recently started moving my browsing from Mozilla to Firefox. Firefox will be releasing a more mature version shortly (1.5). The part I am loving, is the development isn't so "inward". Instead many are supporting it through extensions. May not work with everyone and every site -- though for me, it has been extremely solid. (probably only one it fails with mostly is anything.microsoft.com)
For my setup at home, I have two icons - one for me and for the wife. The problem is, if I start my version, regardless of the icon used, MY version comes up. Vise versa with the wife (version = my cookies; my bookmarks etc).
But that aside, it is highly configurable. There is an extension that really enhances tabs - I no longer have to hit the tab anymore - instead I move the mouse over and after 400ms it auto-switches. Will color it red until read and number other features.
Several other extensions:
- adblock (great for the likes of investorshub, FoxNews, CNN etc - I can remove all the ads)
- greasemonkey/platypus - awesome system whereby you can "delete" parts of the webpage - then create a script of those deletions. Then once the page loads, it deletes the stuff you didn't want. (example would be headers and footers and side menus --- like with Stockcharts). Some sort of post processing after it gets the page and before it displays. Easily can be turned off
- reloadevery - ability to set a tab to reload every 60seconds. Some pages (iHUB) offer that, but Yahoo doesn't. Haven't seen that since I used an IE product called Netcaptor. I have a request to preserve the settings for future loads
- mouse gestures -- still playing with that, but instead of moving the mouse up to hit BACK or FORWARD, you can RIGHT-CLICK move left - and it will go BACK.. or RIGHT-CLICK move right and it will go FORWARD. Can program your mouse to do just about anything.
- conquery - that is really wicked. Essentially you can HIGHLIGHT something then right-click and choose "google" from the context menu - then it will call out to google searching for the highlighted field.
Where I am using that now, is I have written a link to Stockcharts. So essentially ANYONE can post ANYTHING and I just highlight and right-click stockcharts weekly - boom up it comes in another tab. e.g. Sexton posted about KO.. so I could highlight KO and it will appear with the preset weekly I wanted for KO. Has some minor issues (with canuck stocks) but is really nice.
Just saves a whole lot of time. Right now I have to open the stockchart site, then type in the symbol and update. This is just a highlight right-click - boom.
All these things are real production improvements. Best part is the fact it is open source. Other products in the fold are Thunderbird (email) and Sunbird (calendar). Won't go into those but again open source and skys the limit. In the last couple of years I have become a real junky on the open source movement.
anyways.. cheers!
B
Ok.. thoughts on KO?
ADX below DIs since second week of July..
B
Thanks for your PoV on CPST.
(BTW: Ever check out the public charts on SC and the FIBONACCI FORECASTER?)
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/Favorites.CServlet?obj=ID693789
Read some things on the subject, but not enough to fully understand it.
On CPST
I am concerned about the EMA and Stochastic drops. Though I may want to stay long on this - I am thinking of taking some profits and perhaps do a re-entry if it turns up. I'd rather lose some potential gains than lose some actual profits.
Been mulling a $4.50 price in my head for a while..
OT: I have been using the new SC2 charts. One of the best things has to be the color changes. They offer colors (to free right now) but one of the sets is "CVD" (Chemical Vapor Disposition.. you know.. "my eyes my eyes!!!!".. but seriously Color Vision Deficiency).
So using ADX, instead of hard to see "red" and "green", the have "blue" "green" (+/-DI) and "black" (ADX).
Nice.
On Fox's Bull & Bears some of them like the cement companies.. not enough to go around and plenty needed.. Gold of the South? Others think New Orleans will be the Las Vegas of the South. Well you can take that corn pipe ifs you gots em and stick that up where the sun don't shine. There is only one Las Vegas and no substitute for this camper will ever do!
Numero 18..
CPST: Cramer.. adjusts his power requirements..
A caller asked if Capstone Turbine (CPST:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take), which was down nearly 14% Friday afternoon, was a buying opportunity. Cramer, who had been bullish on Capstone, said the company issued a "disconcerting" 8-K last night in which it said its largest customer, UTC Power, had not been able to sell enough of Capstone's products. Cramer said he needed to learn more about the situation before recommending the stock again.
DUH! Didn't he say he would buy UNDER $4? Then in the same show say at $3.50 he would be loading it up?
Maybe he will recommend it again.. once it actually gets that low.. (chuckle!)
B
LOL! Sure as hell hope you ain't living in a box under the highway...
Congrats!
B
PS: Then again.. WTF do I know.. maybe it is a very sturdy box..
(GRUB.. 96.. tsk tsk.. lets just make up shall we!!)
Yeah I am still long. I am surprised how ugly it has gotten since it actually recovered half of its loss mid-morning. Gotta go as far back as the initial run from $1, to see the Fast Stochastics drop to below 50...
Thought Bush gave a good speech last night. Sort of can't believe the $$$ they are throwing at this place. Unless some genious comes up with an ironclad solution, and unless the gov't ponies up the big $ to fix the place, to me a waste of money.
B
CPST: Glug glug glug...
Market Pulse: Capstone shares tumble 12% on warning to UTC Power
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Capstone Turbine Corp. were down 12% at $4.78 in mid-day trading Friday after the company said it may end its original equipment manufacturer agreement for its microturbine products with UTC Power LLC, a unit of United Technologies Corp. . In a Form 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission filed the day before, Capstone cited certain breaches, including UTC's failure to meet its sales targets for the year, as reason for the potential termination of their OEM deal. Capstone said it has notified UTC that it has 90 calendar days to cure the breaches. Under the agreement, UTC sells and services integrated combined cooling, heat and power generation units with parts made by both UTC and Capstone. Sales to UTC affiliated companies were $2.4 million and $1.04 million for fiscal years 2005 and 2004, respectively. Capstone said its relationship with UTC "may deemed be material."
B
CPST: Base breakout higher...
We shall see.
Part of me is surprised they haven't pumped out any news bulletins.. like "Capstone donates 5 generators to the disaster". Good time to demonstrate what they can do. OTOH, they aren't trying to alpha/beta test them, so why waste their time.
Anyahoo..
B
Ouch? Gee thanks pal!

Apple Introduces iPOD nano
Ed: From Apple website..
Never before has something so small held so many possibilities. Up to 1,000 songs. Full-color album art and photos. Podcasts. Audiobooks. Games, clocks, contacts and calendars. All in an iPod that weighs less than a single CD case. Now that's huge.
Overview
Only .27 inches thin and 1.5 ounces, iPod nano packs a lot into its diminutive design. Up to 14 hours of battery life(1). 2GB or 4GB of storage.(2) A bright color display. The Apple Click Wheel. A Dock connector that fits an entire ecosystem of iPod accessories. With so many features like these, iPod nano can change the way you listen to music — and more. Click on a feature to see it on the iPod nano display, then read about it here.
... go to apple.com....
I think the move into the 2GB/4GB arena with memory instead of HDD, is 100% the right answer, I still feel the non-removable battery and some of the software issues (equalizers) persist.
Was speaking with a friend who thought my statement "can't believe the Shuffle has no screen" - he came up with the positive spin of "yeah but you throw music on then play it.. do you really need a screen?". He is a Mac guy. But when his teenage step-daughter rolled in, he asked her "do you find any problem with the shuffle not having a screen?". "Big time!". So they have solved this. But the price tag is steep - like I want a color screen and willing to pay the premium for that?
Quality, not discussed, Samsung sells many units that are small - their Yepp line. Couple that I am looking at are the YP-T6Z or YP-MT6Z. One uses a AAA another, AA. Mind you I cannot comment on the ability to play on a NiMh battery (1.2v vs. 1.5v), the thought in my head was - when it starts to die, just grab another battery, and I am off. None of this "sitting at my desk at home charging" stuff. There is some weird belief that the LiON batteries last forever. My father read something that after about 100 charges, they start to suffer.
Worse? As a consumer cannot go to the Apple store - or any store, and buy a new battery. That has been ticking in my head quite a while. I know some cell phones today are based on that "non-consumer replaceable batteries". Maybe for some, but not for me. My battery appears to be starting to die. Cannot say the battery would be cheap to replace, but I am not in any mood to even think about another phone. So I can go and buy a battery and replace and continue.
Buddy again said that to get the battery changed with Apple, you have to ship the blasted thing to Cupertino no less.
I buy electronics with a glimmer of hope that they may last for years after the warranty. Of late, my hopes have been dashed on a number of items. My last electronic purchases have been a $179 24" TV from Costco, and 3 (yes three!) VCR/DVD combos from Costco - each were the ridiculously low $79.97! Both items are no-name chinese junk! Both with 1 year warranty. Both reasonably close for warranty repairs - and/or to screw the credit card insurance. Best is that I can return to Costco anytime within the year if it fails.
(I won't go into any details on the DVD, but I assure you my standalone high priced Panasonic DVD player, which just died!, can't even auto-resume like these cheapo units).
If I buy a nano tomorrow - and it never left the house, and I protected it, I know the memory will probably last a long time. The rest of the unit probably will do well, save a button here or there, but if I use it a lot and it dies in 2-3 years, now I have to chuck it because I cannot change the battery?
A good music player, such as this, should last you, assuming all the parts work, for years and years. Unlike a computer, they will not become obsolete.
Anyways...
B
True, well I liked the "periodic" part of the bulletin.
CPST: Another shake out? Selling shares..
Capstone Turbine files for $150 mln mixed shelf
WASHINGTON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Capstone Turbine Corp. (CPST.O: Quote, Profile, Research) , a producer of low-emission microturbines, filed with regulators on Thursday to periodically sell up to $150 million in common and preferred stock and debt securities.
The Chatsworth, California-based company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it would use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including working capital, capital expenditures, acquisitions and repurchases or redemptions of securities.
Under a shelf registration, a company may sell securities in one or more separate offerings, with the size, price and terms determined at the time of sale.
B
New Orleans.. was watching Live & Let Die (007) and was watching the end credits...
I suppose the Levee Board didn't get enough or spend it all in the right place..
CPST finished nicely.. only down $0.10..
I was expecting you to chuckle and say "you cocooning? what else is new?".
LOL!
When Cequel energy split - to create Cyries Energy; ProEX Energy and Progress Energy Trust - I ended up keeping all three and make a nice little bit-o-coin each month.
Well Cyries is doing very well lately - bucking the overall trend today.
B
Watchin Aaron Brown on CNN last night - bus load arrive at the Houston Astrodome, and are told "we are full go somewhere else". The reporter stated they left but unsure where to go. (INSANE???????)
Told my wife - desperate times with the gas prices - we will have to do something we almost never do - "cocooning" - stay home and not go out much in the car.
Part of me thinks the price is higher than normal because of the long weekend. As we know they typically raise "just before" the long weekends. But lately because of the collusion they have over the past year or so not always raised the price. So this week - they really jumped it up early. Want to wait and see if it goes down over the weekend.
We shall see.
Hmm.. little late to short Darden & AFC I suppose..

Bad news for a while...

B
Right, well I can try and hold on. Such a run up, gotta give it some room to breathe.
(Moi? Sexy Blake --- Imagine? Guy there is only ONE[/b} thing I imagine and as "play for sure" as I am sitting here.. it ain't Capstone or any other stock!! LOL!)
But seriously yes... my focus on the market and the stocks at hand, too, has to improve.
B
You see that is NOT what I want either -- with this nor any other stock. Not in my plans. I want to pick'em - add a stop.. and go on with life - review nightly - review during the weekend..
(Just fielding your overall thoughts.. not daytrading ideas)..
Daytrading will only get me back into losing big money by buying at overvalued prices...
Aug 19/22 should have been the sell point - the stochastic was below 70-75 - the MACD turned. Dumb luck is why I am here.
I am not waiting for both to turn south but a downtrend in the MACD and a strong fall of the stochastic would have me moving..
B
Funnymentals are a huge problem for me. Sure they may be in great demand - but like a DOT BOMB, I need to seem some huge cash flow before I start believing that they are real.
Anyways... right now it appears to be coming unglued..
Would like to wiggle 50% out - to take some profits off the table.
The daily..
.. trippple MACD top... also the Stochastics been staying mostly around/above 70..
I would love to just add a stop and walk away - but the volitility in the low pricers..
B
Absolutely 100% bang on friend!
If you want to live in paradise (Caribbean; Florida etc), then expect to deal with hurricanes.
Want to live in Las Vegas? Put up with the excessive heat and radiation from the nuke tests or, if approved, the issues surrounding the transportation and storage of the nation's nuke waste repository stored at Yucca mountain.
I personally wanted to stay far enough from train tracks - (ie in case of some toxic derailment). Doesn't mean I still won't get evacuated, but I am not 15 minutes walking distance either.
I wouldn't go near a hydro powerline corridor. Yet entire subdivisions are built close to them. Some tests say "bad - don't live near them" - others say "no problems". I say, F*EM ALL - I will just avoid it and sleep better every night.
A few KMs to the wast of us is the old dump. For years took garbage from surrounding areas and Toronto. Bet 99% of the Toronto residents have no clue their garbage went there. You probably can't tell it was a dump since they have "closed it".
Meanwhile there are the homebuilders right across the street building homes! I know of a major builder a block to the east - apparently rumor has it new residents (talking a major building boom of thousands of homes) are complaining of "swampy" land among other things. Other things I bet.
Thanks for the rant... as with my Mississippi comment - people think of these things only after disaster has struck.
..
..
..
and will still move back.

PS: If anyone wants to know about Yucca.. which is still moving ahead..
