This was not a gun issue. It was an issue of stupidity on the part of the gun owner. Had the gun been properly stored then the child would not have had access to it.

We lock our homes, our cars and our fences. We do that because it is necessary to protect ourselves and our property. So I would say that your argument is weak.

Leaving a firearm out where a child (or anybody) can touch or even see it is beyond stupid. This would be akin to parking your car in downtown Detroit or Chicago with the windows down, full tank of gas and the keys in the ignition. My guess is that you have never lived in an area of moderate to high crime and have never been robbed or mugged. Most gun control proponents have never been to the "hood" for any length of time and ignore the fact that guns deter criminal activity.

There should be a law that everyone own a gun. Crime rates would decrease substantially. Look at Kennesaw Georgia crime stats and then compare them to Chicago.
