Yes, he invented the UPC. This is not a 2D barcode, although, as I believe I recall, Neomedia's patents include 1D codes as essentially a passthrough application.
The barcodes which are monetized by Neom's platform are 2D codes utilizing the "Indirect" method. In other terms, they employ a redirect via a gateway server, and also utilize a resolution server.
Fyi, QR codes were invented many years ago by Denso Wave in Japan. The codes are freeware. They do not cost a penny to license. For those who have failed to perform the slightest DD, they are unaware of how these codes apply to Neom. QR codes by themselves DO NOT monetize Neom's patents. Linking directly to websites via a QR code can be done all day long for free. However, once a QR code (or ANY 2D BARCODE, of which there exist 7 standard codes and numerous non-standard codes including Scanlife) is provisioned as an INDIRECT code, Neom's patents activate.
Also fyi, the Indirect method carries significant benefits over the Direct method including enhanced security.
We owe a debt of thanks to Mr. George Laurer. Had he not invented the 1D code, we would likely be absent 2D codes!
I DO NOT reccomend ANYONE purchase so much as a single share of this stock given the company's abysmal history. However, I refuse selling any shares at this ridiculous pps.

Chinese troops apparently wore QR codes on their body armor in the massive 70th anniversary parade

Below is an excerpt, but worthy of a full read (recommended). As is often the situation with China, some of their applications are a bit alarming. Nevertheless, this excerpt is fabulous news IMO:
"QR codes have been pervasive in China with the advent of third-party payment apps like Alipay and social-media apps like WeChat. Chinese shoppers have increasingly opted to purchase goods from retail stores and even street vendors with their cellphones to scan QR codes, rather than using a physical card or cash.
China's new payment system exploded in under a decade, growing from inception to dominance," a study from the Center on Regulations and Marketsfrom the Brookings Institution said. "With over a billion users on each platform, the power of network incentives has been unleashed."
"The new payment system has replaced cards and cash at registers, how families give gifts, and even how beggars ask for money, with QR codes replacing tin cups," the study added."

AR – bringing brands and packaging to life

EXCERPT:
According to a study by Future Market Insights, the global QR code labels market is currently worth $996.8m and forecasted to expand at a CAGR of 8.7% from 2019-2027. This boom will be driven by innovative mobile technologies which make it easier for consumers to scan codes, and faster mobile internet speeds to power the richer content behind them. But while QR codes make a comeback, image recognition technology is fuelling rapid growth in brands offering augmented reality (AR) experiences.

Chick-fil-A adds NFC tags to restaurant tabletops
By Mike Clark • 23 October 2019
https://www.nfcw.com/2019/10/23/364807/chick-fil-a-adds-nfc-tags-to-restaurant-tabletops/
US fast food restaurant giant Chick-fil-A has launched a mobile ordering service that lets customers place food orders with their mobile phone and then tap a numbered NFC tag on their table to confirm where they are sitting so that their meal can be brought directly to their seat.
The new ‘dine-in’ mobile ordering service eliminates the need for customers to stand in line or place an order at the counter, the company says, and is available at “participating Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide”.
“Guests can also use the dine-in mobile ordering feature to order additional menu items, like a treat after their meal, and have the food conveniently delivered to their table,” Chick-fil-A adds.
“So many of our customers’ busy lives and commitments have them strapped for time,” says Khalilah Cooper, Chick-fil-A’s director of service and hospitality.
“Dine-in mobile ordering is one way we can help them get a quick, yet high-quality meal.”
The company has been testing the concept at 80 of its 2,400 restaurants since last year, and has received particularly positive feedback from large parties and from families with children, the company adds.
“92% of customers surveyed that used dine-in mobile ordering found the feature appealing due to ease and convenience.”

Technology ecosystems are product platforms defined by core components made by the platform owner and complemented by applications made by autonomous companies in the periphery."

The mobile ecosystem. Anything and everything pertaining to 'any machine readable input' within the mobile marketing environment (2D barcodes, NFC, beacons, etc.) such that the "input" crosses TWO servers (a resolution server and a gateway server [effectively known as the "Indirect Method"]). The combination of the two servers monetize Neom's patents, and provide a level of innate security due to the registration process required to access the gateway.

I should be the first to state I should have listened to you years back (I mean this). I would have avoided this mess and retained some level of sanity. Nevertheless, I view this as the change in control Iain contracted for in his employment agreement. Simply because the leadership changes does not mean the agenda changes.
Each change in CEO was designed to bring a specific skillset required to achieve new milestones. I refuse to concede (particularly given the current pps).
At the time of the auction, the preferred shareholders (collectively owning approximately 90% of the company) were offered the choice of retaining their shares in Neom, or surrendering them in exchange for shares in the new company. While this tidbit in and of itself does not represent anything more than formalized language, it is my view Neom continues to be part of what is coming forward. BK was never filed, the website and Neoreader app continue to reference "Neomedia Technologies" on various pages (it would have been quite simple to change ALL mentions), and a critical and somewhat hidden aspect of Neomedia and the ecosystem as a whole is QUITE active.
Perhaps I am wrong. After all, I remain a mere mortal who has lost a great deal of money in this company, and therefore carry an unsurprising need to maintain hope. However, I also continue to believe in my DD and several core, highly active, aspects of the ecosystem.
All of the above...JMO (although I continue to wish I listened to you)

Snapchat seeks salvation in long-form and “hands-on” AR ads
Josh Constine@joshconstine / 1:04 pm EST • November 24, 2017
https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/24/anything-for-arpu/
Excerpt:
Snap Inc’s stock tanked after missing revenue expectations by $30 million last quarter, so Snapchat is looking to win over businesses with immersive new ads formats. This week it introduced two new forms of ads: Promoted Stories which string together multiple Snaps into a longer-form slideshows openable from a tile on the Stories page that’s shown to everyone in a given country, and Augmented Reality Trial ads that let people play with an AR version of a product overlaid on the world around them.
Together, these new formats could make Snap’s ads less skippable and more memorable, coaxing money out of businesses hoping to make a mark on premier audience of US teens. Both Promoted Stories and AR Trial ads go a step beyond what Facebook can offer, but could soon be copied like the rest of Snapchat.
It appears all is aligning in time for the Olympics. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Facebook expands its playable and AR ad formats
Anthony Ha@anthonyha / 11:03 am EDT • September 19, 2019
https://techcrunch.com/2019/09/19/facebook-playable-ar-ads/
Ahead of Advertising Week, Facebook is announcing the expansion of three interactive ad formats.
First, it says that poll ads (which you may already have seen in Instagram Stories) are moving to the main feed of the Facebook mobile app. Second, the augmented reality ads that Facebook has already been testing are moving into open beta this fall. Third, Facebook is making playable ads available to all advertisers, not just gaming companies.
The company showed off each format at a press event yesterday in New York City.
E!, for example, says it ran ads with interactive polls to promote one of its TV shows, leading to a 1.6x increase in brand awareness. Meanwhile, Vans created a playable ad where players could guide skateboarder Steve Van Doren down a mountain, resulting in a 4.4% lift in ad recall. And WeMakeUp ran an AR ad campaign allowing users to virtually try on new shades of makeup, leading to a 27.6% lift in purchases.
Mark D’Arcy, Facebook’s chief creative officer and vice president of global business marketing, said that while the initial playable ad examples had “very literal gaming mechanics, doing brands in a game,” there could be “a whole range” of different interactions over time.
D’Arcy also acknowledged that including polls, games and AR in ads aren’t exactly new ideas, but he suggested that in the past, they’ve generally been “heavy” experiences, requiring things like a separate microsite. By bringing them front-and-center on Facebook, the company is making them “super lightweight, fun and super scalable.”
As result, he suggested that each of these formats will evolve as more advertisers get to experiment with them: “In 12 months, even six months, we’re going to look at these examples and they’ll be fundamentally different.”
And if you’re wondering how these new formats will handle user data, the Facebook team said that only the aggregate results of polls — not individual user data — will be shared with advertisers. Similarly, any images created by users through an AR ad can be saved to their camera roll, but won’t be shared with advertisers.
MY COMMENT:
This appears as good reason for Google's automated download of AR to handsets [the post I am replying to). Finally, it would seem the advertising apps are beginning to come forward. The ecosystem is now accelerating rapidly. You all may have noticed Transit eTicketing apps have been mushrooming. I am praying 2020 is our year. It certainly would seem so, however, as always, we simply do not know timing.
