There appears to be a conflict of interest here...2 objects can't occupy the same space at the same time. Somebody must of fibbed on the MDSO CBS deal.
MYYYykKUuLLLL PAGNANO you get in this house this minute young man!!!...you got some splaynin to do mister. Wait till your father [Siliconelover] gets home!!!
heheheh This outta be worth the price of admission.
And to think we were accused of pumping this stock. That was like a pack of wild dogs man. I look for this board to return to "Mayberry" after todays downturn. So much for the new money MP was hoping to attract. His rep went down another notch with a whole new bunch...that outta help.
Mike -always the airing to be announced sooooon- Pagnano
I see what you mean...I underestimated the news today. In that case Yeeehawww!
I ask alot of stuff biofuel...curiousity killed the cat. You're doing gr8...you answer my missing pieces of the big picture more than you might think...much appreciated.
So Co2 is the elusive part in this IF the Algae refinery isn't located near a fairly large belching smoke stack in Pittsburgh or on I-5 thru LA. Hmmm that's sobering.
Since coal fired power plants are one of the biggest contributors of Co2, which is an enviromental pain in the rear for them potentially costing them mega-bucks in fines & lawsuits, they have an excellent opp to turn a major "downside" to their business into a major "upside" by not only getting rid of their Co2 but turning it into a Bi-product [Bio-diesel]...no? They could go from villain to hero over-nite...and make big bucks in the process...no? Holy cow man is there interest from these guys..is GSPI's phone ringing?
Oh my god..I haven't belly laughed like I did when I read GetRichOrDieTrying's post for a long time. That was funny man.
Todays news was favorable...not huge but still encouraging.
Ya it's hard to say for sure if he's in what they consider a deep pond or shallow pond. It appears shallow to me but I don't know what the scientist consider shallow when it comes to Algae ponds.
If low sunlight is desired as opposed to direct sunlight then is it possible to partially cover the closed pond systems with adjustable solar panels to 1) defuse or partially shade some of the direct sun and 2) produce (or significanly bolster) your own electricity needs to run an Algae farm. Say low speed circulation pumps maybe or the farms vast array(s) of misc "monitoring equipment"...I.e. alarms, telemetry lines, water valves, Co2 levels, temp readings, collection point station computers, etc. etc. etc...maybe even to power some of the processing equipment after harvest?? I dunno
I'm no bio-engineer nor a chemists so my terminology is lacking but hopefully you get my drift. Have these things been discussed to your knowledge by GSPI in the past? It will no doubt take energy ($$)to make energy...hopefully you consume less then you produce.
Quick story on this very subject- I grew up in western Colorado. We had oil shale up the wazzooo. They say it's enough to supply the entire USA for 200 years+. The Navy owned the rights to it as far back as WWII believe it or not but they hadn't a clue how to extract the oil out of the shale back then so it just sat for decades. Along came Union Oil in the 70's early 80's doing research on how to extract the oil and make it a viable (and of course profittable). Back then gas was selling for about a buck 10 to a buck 30 at your local pump and Union Oil said they couldn't produce shale economically enough cause it costs at least 2 bucks a gal for them to produce it and then tack on their profits. The energy dollars it took to produce it were way more than they could sell it for so they too abandoned the shale endeavor. Is this part of what GSPI (and to a greater extent the entire biofuels industry) is up against now with Algae production? Cost to produce outweighs potential gains? I'm asking from a business standpoint and not an enviromental and or political viewpoint.
I appreciate the informative/insightful info guys.
Supposing GSPI provided the optimal growing conditions in a shallow closed pool system - how long would it typically take to get the Algae to it's "ripened" most useful state? + or - 24 hours.
In deeper ponds (to reach max production goals per acre) wouldn't that time be longer to allow enough time for all the Algae to be circulated to the optimal sunlight & Co2 zone? The circulation rate would then depend on the plants benefitial absorbtion rate...correct?
The debate, it would appear, is deep pools vs shallow...am I correct? Or has GSPI come to a scientific conclusion on that?
You owe me more than one siliconelover but hey I'll accept a straight up apology. No harm no foul.
Roger that Chadman....it's been a 'show'.
Upon further reflection regarding "Shipping"...it occurred to me that the worlds' big shippers of crude oil will see progressional declines in business as more and more locally grown & produced alt fuels become available... No?? And as a bonus, with fewer Tankers, we presumably lessen our chances of huge oil spills on our oceans... like the Valdez! Distribution of any fuel [Fossil or otherwise] will still be a need of course. I'm sure that's why you mentioned the railroad going thru Odessa. I.e distribution. (you guys are wayy ahead of me). Better something like a railroad traveling shorter distances to market than a tanker traveling half way round the world to deliver it's cargo.
good-nite all.
Ya I agree ErnestDD. I was making light on the Hawaii R&D comment. These board/posts don't pass all the intended emotions in a comment like a face to face conversation does over a cuppa joe.
The Pacific Rim [exception maybe Japan] need to come up with their own best suited Feedstock for Alt fuels ...and that could very well be PALM. Any locally grown feedstock turned fuel would considerably lower the costs for fuel if for no other reason than the HIGH shipping charges for goods they presently endure. We were paying over $3.30/gal back in 99 when mainland prices were $2.50/gal or under. The only thing we didn't have shipped in was Pineapples, Macadamia Nuts and sunshine! ;)
How "protected" is GSPI's R&D property? ..such as the lessons learned in Montana??
Roger that! It came out of the blue. Normally I'd be totally ok with it all but Siliconelover has me seeing a demon behind every bush these days...LOL.
Allrighty then...one of the more wilder sessions on average. It was all over the map all day with fairly large volume hitting at about 10:30amish PST. Oddly the volume hit right after it went to it's little knees at .0003. Hmmmm.
I can't reply to private messages. I've been watching it go from .0003 to .0015 all day but is retracting towards closing bell.
Seems puzzling that Shell would do R&D in Hawaii of all places?? I lived on Oahu for 6 years and grew avacados the size of grapefruits with absolutely no gardening tlc on my part whatsoever. It makes more sense to do it in a State like Montana where successful year-round growing is no 'accident'...and you really find out what the plant is capable of.
My wife just chimed in and said "who would pick an office in Montana over an office in Hawaii"! She's got a point!
You mentioned Odessa WA and DeBeers. I was trying to get info on the Odessa facility this past weekend but my quick search so far has come up fairly empty. Realizing that nothing comes close to Algae (both on a per acre yield and non-food compete level) the concept of a small US Ag town trying to shift 100+ yr old gears and get into the energy supply game is an interesting & courageous human interest story all it's own but as an investor I'd like to know how the bioreactor GSPI supplied is actually performing.
Roger that...and thank you for the welcome.
100M Gal A yr cap and no feedstock! wow..I'd say they took the "field of dreams" approach...build it and they will come!
Is Dr. Glen with GSPI?
You say Dr. Glen here but referred to Dr. Kertzs' work earlier?? Are they one in the same?
ALCON - How far out are we on seeing Algae Biodiesel (AB) sold commercially on a modest level and who [industry wide] is positioned the best to go into production?
ErnestDD,
Consider your hand shook my friend. I'm gonna need the speed course on some things and I hope you and others don't mind filling in a few gaps. In 50 words or less - What is he doing differently and why is it appealing to you?
New guy here [on this board] and relatively new to GSPI.
Hi all,
I don't know how most of you came to have interest in Algae Biofuels in general but here's my story. The concept of making fuel from a 'plant' was presented to me in the early 90's. I met and became an acquaintence of a man & wife who spent their entire professional lives traveling all over the world lobbying for and promoting ethanol made from corn. Of course the need for alternative fuels wasn't nearly as pertinent as it is today...and rightfully so...oil was less than $40@bbrl back then and most of us didn't really care where or how or who produced the gas at the local pump. I remember my immediate thought -after hearing their 'sales pitch' for corn ethanol- was 'that's cool but why do it'?? A reaction I'm sure they knew well. It seemed (and was) to be more of a novelty than a need back then. I haven't seen them for many years now but I'm sure they would say "it only took you 16 years to GET IT". I got it. That was my portal into the frontier of alternative fuels. And of course once you seriously study this world you quickly realise that corn isn't really the answer... but to their credit my friends were true visionaries. Ok enough of that...thanx for listening.
I'm an investor now in GSPI and I think
Algae is the feedstock of the future. I look forward to this board room and hearing what you have to say about GSPI & alternative fuels in general. Go GSPI !
I don't know what to say man...
You might be justified in being bitter about this stock/this company/it's management. You must of lost BIG time on it... and now you can't let it go. I'm sorry man I really am. Every one of us has been there...bought the T-shirt and went home disgusted over some stock in our past. It stings. I get it.
You're confusing promotors with investors. Promotors are "involved" with a stock cause they got something to sell but Investors are "committed" cause they already bought. Big diff. One has some skin in the game and the other doesn't...it's just that simple. Kinda like a breakfast plate of Ham n Eggs...the chicken is "involved" with the making of the meal but the pig is "committed" to it. If I was that pig I'd want that breakfast to be the best damn breakfast ever and I'd be vocal about it.
Don't confuse enthusiastic hope with promoting on this board. The investors of WEHI might all be proven fools in the end...and you can scream "I told you so" from the rooftops of the internet but for now let it go.
Stand down Siliconelover. You're drinkin some big assumptions here and then chasin those down with insults. I'm not your enemy here pal and talking tough on the internet is something only weaklings & weasels do...so knock it off if you don't want be thought of as one.
Timbuk2...thanx for the info...that makes a huge diff...glad to hear it. I really don't want to think the worst of MP. I'd like to be an embassador for the stock and promote it more assuredly with my buds but when the news & info MP releases raises more questions than it answers it tough to do with any degree of confidence.
So does the national CBS airing in June supercede the regional CBS airing that was scheduled for May?
As a stockholder of WGLT (now WEHI) it didn't set well with me to learn that a company I'm a part of would use a "loophole" in the fine print to elude paying the $1M prize money to the winner(s) of MDSO 1. Maybe it was just a 'smart' business move on MP's part to do that??? but to be honest and as a stock holder it made me feel like I was a part of some kinda scam ... and that went down like a chicken bone. I dunno guys maybe I'm off base on this...any other thoughts/ pertinent facts I'm missing here?
Did the participants in MDSO 1 know in advance that they wouldn't actually be getting the prize money? Is John O'Hurley being paid or was he stiffed by the same loophole?
As an investor integrity matters to me.
Hey nice to meet ya.
Ya...looks that way. Well I'm disappointed but not bitter. I didn't come into this like a babe in the woods...I knew the day I bought it was HIGHLY speculative and risk laden. It's part of my "what the hell" portfolio and is catamount to modern day "gold prospecting" (only without the mule and pick-ax). Once in a while you hit on one of these and it feeds the fever to do it again...knowwhatImean. If it busts it busts. MP appears to be a blue seude shoe used car salesman type CEO for sure but he's typical in these kinds of stocks. I don't mean that as a personal slam on the guy or his company cause I've seen them go both ways and you never can tell...you really can't. It's the gamble we all take. I wish him well with the MDSO...it isn't any worse than alot of stuff on TV and in fact looks entertaining. I'd watch it.
How long have you been hangin around this stock siliconelover?
New guy here trying to get up to speed on the WEHI message board- Sounds like some of you have a long history with this stock/CEO/company. I myself have only owned it for about a year now and for some crazy reason can't quite let it go. My measly 40M shares went to 200K after the R/S in Feb. I didn't get too concerned because as you know the price held it's value [dollarwise]...then it all went south real quick...the deep south...and that was depressing!. I'm back up to 2M shares now....not exactly a King's ransom but if it R/S again (as many of you think it will based on your past experience with this stock & CEO) I'm done with it!
It would have to go to dimes not pennies to make anything at all and I don't see that happening! I've written MP and a few of the principles of the co in 07 and never heard a peep back...maybe that and the fact there hasn't been any insider purchases should of clue'd me in to what this really is.
Oh well...live n' learn... right guys! I would of had more fun in Vegas.
timbuk2,
How does one "assign' himself shares? Insider purchase??
Just curious.
