Authorities in northeast Georgia say a gunman has barricaded himself in a home and is holding four firefighters hostage.
Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter says five firefighters on Wednesday responded to a medical call in Suwanee. They were taken hostage by a suspect he didn't identify but says the gunman released one to move the fire truck.
Great quote on Atheism
Susan B Anthony
I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.
Another reason I like Mark....... Mark 3 20
Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law
20Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21When his familyb heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
Embarrassing.
Lol you have a Zoo...but the point is.....Dogs are first Alert.....give you time to prepare.
Owning a Dog is the equalizer. They give you the edge in home defense. Edit...first alert.
I looked at your Cancer Board.......Honorable ....tough board to Mod.
Neither is my wife.
Compare this to Luke
Jesus Arrested
47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”
Peter Disowns Jesus
Case in point, look at this arrest ....instead of Roman Soldiers it's a mob all of Jesus's friends fled.....one butt ass naked. Can you say embarrassing?
Jesus Arrested
43 Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.” 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.
51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
Mark was first ...probably written by an eyewitness......it was embarrassing ......Matthew and Luke put a spin on it.....Matthew for the Jews ...Luke for the Gentiles....John was a totally different tradition.
Sad but true LOL
• GOP outreach = White men telling women they don't need birth control, gay people they don't need equality and immigrants they're illegal.
Any thoughts here
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee House committee on Tuesday recommended passing a bill that would dock the welfare payments of parents of children who fail at a school despite Republican Gov. Bill Haslam's opposition to the measure.
The House Government Operations Committee voted 8-4 to give a positive recommendation to the bill sponsored by Rep. Vance Dennis of Savannah even after hearing from a representative from Haslam's office that the governor has serious concerns about the bill.
House Speaker Beth Harwell, a Republican, has also raised concerns about the measure that would cut Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF, benefits by 30 percent if a child fails to advance to the next grade.
The money could be earned back if a parent attends two conferences with teachers, takes parenting classes or enrolls the child in tutoring programs or summer school.
Rep. Joshua Evans said he agreed with the goals of the bill.
"I deal with families it seems like every week ... that at least give the appearance that they care more about their electronics and cell phones and other things than they do their kids," said Evans, R-Greenbrier. "I think that's really unfortunate. I hope that's not how they feel, but that's how they appear to feel."
"Sometimes the way we get people's attention is their pocketbook," he said. "And I think this is an attempt to do that."
Democratic Rep. Johnnie Turner of Memphis rejected the notion that lawmakers can "legislate parental involvement."
"I know the limitations poor people have," she said. "Many times they don't have the electronics my colleague alluded to. They need to try to work two and three jobs."
Republican Rep. John Ragan of Oak Ridge said the burden wouldn't be too high for parents to regain the full TANF benefit.
"They have to take off work twice to go talk about their child concerning education," Ragan said.
About 52,800 families currently receive TANF benefits, according to the state Department of Human Services. The agency does not keep track of how many of those families include children who would be affected by the bill.
Haslam told reporters earlier this week that he opposes the measure because "there's too many other reasons that could cause a child to struggle in school."
"We are all working to have more parental involvement in children's education," he said. "But to have that direct link there, when there's so many other factors, is worrisome to me."
Harwell, the House speaker, said last week that she shared those concerns with the governor, though she said she understood some of her colleagues who believe "perhaps we're giving government assistance and people are not living up to the responsibilities they have."
"However, we don't ever want to hurt a child in the process of trying to make parents more responsible," she said.
House Democratic Caucus Chairman Mike Turner of Nashville applauded the governor for opposing the bill.
"I give the governor credit for standing up and doing the right thing on this bill," he said. "I'm here to support my governor."
Couldn't help but read your post on the P&M. Board....start with Mark.

....A giant "monumental" stone structure discovered beneath the waters of the Sea of Galilee in Israel has archaeologists puzzled as to its purpose and even how long ago it was built.
The mysterious structure is cone shaped, made of "unhewn basalt cobbles and boulders," and weighs an estimated 60,000 tons the researchers said. That makes it heavier than most modern-day warships.
Rising nearly 32 feet (10 meters) high, it has a diameter of about 230 feet (70 meters). To put that in perspective, the outer stone circle of Stonehenge has a diameter just half that with its tallest stones not reaching that height.
It appears to be a giant cairn, rocks piled on top of each other. Structures like this are known from elsewhere in the world and are sometimes used to mark burials. Researchers do not know if the newly discovered structure was used for this purpose.
The structure was first detected in the summer of 2003 during a sonar survey of the southwest portion of the sea. Divers have since been down to investigate, they write in the latest issue of the International Journal of Nautical Archaeology.
"Close inspection by scuba diving revealed that the structure is made of basalt boulders up to 1 m (3.2 feet) long with no apparent construction pattern," the researchers write in their journal article. "The boulders have natural faces with no signs of cutting or chiselling. Similarly, we did not find any sign of arrangement or walls that delineate this structure." [See Photos of the Mysterious Sea of Galilee Structure]
They say it is definitely human-made and probably was built on land, only later to be covered by the Sea of Galilee as the water level rose. "The shape and composition of the submerged structure does not resemble any natural feature. We therefore conclude that it is man-made and might be termed a cairn," the researchers write.
More than 4,000 years old?
Underwater archaeological excavation is needed so scientists can find associated artifacts and determine the structure's date and purpose, the researchers said.
Researcher Yitzhak Paz, of the Israel Antiquities Authority and Ben-Gurion University, believes it could date back more than 4,000 years. "The more logical possibility is that it belongs to the third millennium B.C., because there are other megalithic phenomena [from that time] that are found close by," Paz told LiveScience in an interview, noting that those sites are associated with fortified settlements.
The researchers list several examples of megalithic structures found close to the Sea of Galilee that are more than 4,000 years-old. One example is the monumental site of Khirbet Beteiha, located some 19 miles (30 kilometers) north-east of the submerged stone structure, the researchers write. It "comprises three concentric stone circles, the largest of which is 56 m [184 feet] in diameter." [Gallery: Aerial Photos Reveal Mysterious Stone Structures]
An ancient city
If the third-millennium B.C. date idea proves correct it would put the structure about a mile to the north of a city that researchers call "Bet Yerah" or "Khirbet Kerak."
During the third millennium B.C. the city was one of the biggest sites in the region, Paz said. "It's the most powerful and fortified town in this region and, as a matter of fact, in the whole of Israel."
Archaeologist Raphael Greenberg describes it in a chapter of the book "Daily Life, Materiality, and Complexity in Early Urban Communities of the Southern Levant" (Eisenbrauns, 2011) as being a heavily fortified 74-acre (30 hectares) site with up to 5,000 inhabitants.
With paved streets and towering defenses its people were clearly well organized. "They also indicate the existence of some kind of municipal authority able to maintain public structures ..." Greenberg writes.
The research team says that, like the leaders of Bet Yerah, whoever built the newly discovered Sea of Galilee structure needed sophisticated organization and planning skills to construct it. The "effort invested in such an enterprise is indicative of a complex, well-organized society, with planning skills and economic ability," they write in their journal paper.
Paz added that "in order to build such a structure a lot of working hours were required" in an organized community effort.
Future exploration
Paz said that he hopes soon that an underwater archaeological expedition will set out to excavate the structure. They can search for artifacts and try to determine its date with certainty.
He said that the Israel Antiquities Authority has a research branch capable of excavating it. "We will try to do it in the near future, I hope, but it depends on a lot of factors."

Rand's Hero. William Edward Hickman[color=red][/color]
Hickman kidnapped Parker on December 15, 1927, by appearing at her junior high school, claiming that her father, Perry Parker, was ill, and that he wanted to see his daughter. He did not realize there were twin Parker daughters, and did not know either child's name, but the school administrator turned one of the girls over to him. The next day Hickman sent the first of three ransom notes to the Parker home, demanding $1,500 in $20 gold certificates.
On December 19, Marion's father delivered the ransom in Los Angeles, but in return Hickman delivered the girl's dismembered body. Her arms and legs had been severed and her internal organs removed. A towel stuffed into her body to absorb blood led police to Hickman's apartment building, but he managed to escape. A $100,000 reward was offered for his capture, and for nearly a week Hickman eluded authorities.
He was finally caught after spending some of the ransom in Washington and Oregon. He subsequently confessed to kidnapping Marion, but blamed her murder on a man who was actually in jail during the time of the crime. He was extradited back to Los Angeles where he confessed to another murder he committed during a drug store hold-up, as well as many other armed robberies.[3]
Hickman was one of the earliest defendants to use California's new law that allowed pleas of not guilty by reason of insanity. However, in February 1928 a jury rejected his claim and he was sentenced to hang. He appealed the conviction, but the verdict was upheld by the California Supreme Court, and on October 19, 1928 he was executed on the gallows.
[edit]Ayn Rand's The Little Street
In 1928, the writer Ayn Rand began planning a novel called The Little Street, whose hero, Danny Renahan, was to be based on "what Hickman suggested to [her]." The novel was never finished, but Rand wrote notes for it which were published after her death in the book Journals of Ayn Rand. Rand wanted the hero of her novel to be "A Hickman with a purpose. And without the degeneracy. It is more exact to say that the model is not Hickman, but what Hickman suggested to me."[4] Rand scholars Chris Matthew Sciabarra and Jennifer Burns both interpret Rand's interest in Hickman as a sign of her early admiration of the ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche, especially since she several times referred to Danny (the character which Hickman 'suggested' to her) as a "Superman" (in the Nietzschean sense).[5][6][7]
It's not irrelevant ......the later Gospels were ripe with Jesus fulfilling OT Law and Prophecies ..... They were obviously trying to connect some of Jesus's embarrassing points of his life to scripture...ie his Baptism and Death..... Look at his Baptism
I looked at Gill's take on these 4 sections, and they dont even look comparative, but there's a problem here and I'd personally get the forum's thoughts on this event.
In Jn 1:31-33, John didnt even know he was about to baptize the Christ, in any event he knew afterwards because of what he heard from heaven.
In Mk 1:9-11, it appears about the same, Jesus shows up, gets baptized, same Voice, and off he goes.
In Lk. 3:21-22 it appears someone almost forgot to get Jesus baptism in the story as you look at verses 19-20, kind of "oh and Jesus got baptized too"
But its Matthews version that is troubling for a couple reasons, #1 it contradicts John's gospel, unless you say "well John and Jesus knew each other as cousins, but John (who was filled with the Spirit from the womb and leaped for joy when Mary showed up) just didnt know he was the Messiah, but then #2, the problem with that is Matthew is the only one who says that John tried to prevent Jesus from being baptized because he did actually know him and just why he was.
Problem #3 is this statement,
Mt 3:15, (WEB), But Jesus, answering, said to him, "Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed him.
So how can we make Matthews version harmonize with the others, and how can John's baptism be a fitting way to fulfill ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS?
Good point. However, he did that to fulfill scripture either because he thought he was the Messiah or he was....still a lot of debate about that.
Libertarianism is a set of related political philosophies that uphold liberty as the highest political end.[1][2[/color]] This includes emphasis on the primacy of individual liberty,[3] political freedom, and voluntary association. Libertarians advocate a society with a greatly reduced state or no state at all.[4]
The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines libertarianism as the moral view that agents initially fully own themselves and have certain moral powers to acquire property rights in external things.[5] Libertarian philosopher Roderick Long defines libertarianism as "any political position that advocates a radical redistribution of power from the coercive state to voluntary associations of free individuals", whether "voluntary association" takes the form of the free market or of communal co-operatives.[6] According to the U.S. Libertarian Party, libertarianism is the advocacy of a government that is funded voluntarily and limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.[7][8]
Libertarian schools of thought differ over the degree to which the state should have a role.[4] Anarchist schools advocate complete elimination of the state. Minarchist schools advocate a state which is limited to protecting its citizens from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud. Some schools accept government assistance for the poor.[9] Additionally, some schools are supportive of private property rights in the ownership of unappropriated land and natural resources while others reject such private ownership and often support common ownership instead (Libertarian socialism).[10][11][12]
Some political scholars assert that in most countries the terms "libertarian" and "libertarianism" are synonymous with left anarchism, and some express disapproval of free-market capitalists calling themselves libertarians.[13] Conversely, other academics as well as proponents of the free market perspectives argue that free-market libertarianism has been successfully propagated beyond the U.S. since the 1970s via think tanks and political parties[14][15] and that "libertarianism" is increasingly viewed worldwide as a free market position.[16][17]
Likewise, many libertarian capitalists disapprove of socialists calling themselves "libertarian."[6] In the United States, where the meaning of liberalism has parted significantly from classical liberalism, classical liberalism has largely been renamed libertarianism and is associated with "economically conservative" and "socially liberal" political views (going by the common meanings of "conservative" and "liberal" in the United States),[18][19] along with a foreign policy of non-interventionism.[20][21]

We should not be having this conversation..... We were both in the military....you know the damage certain weapons do.

Banning some weapons is not the same as all weapons. Should everybody have a hand grenade, Tommy Gun, BAR, UZI.....so and so forth? Let's keep it realistic.
