But, I don't recall reading about this early grant DNAP received from FAMRI:
DNAPrint Wins FAMRI Research Grant
Thursday February 20, 9:43 am ET
SARASOTA, Fla., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DNAPrint (OTC Bulletin Board: DNAP - News; the "Company"), the world leader in the measurement of population structure for disease genetics, personalized medicine and forensics profiling, announced today that it has been awarded part of a 2-year grant worth $200,000 to study population genetic links between cervical disease and Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS).
The award was made by the Flight Attendants Medical Research Institute (FAMRI), which was established as part of the $300M tobacco settlement finalized in 1997. The grant, titled "Genetic Susceptibility to Cervical Cancer in Second Hand Smokers", was written in collaboration with the University of Miami School of Medicine to mirror a study the Company and the University executed last year. That study was successful in identifying genetic markers of variable first-line response to paclitaxel/carboplatin chemotherapy, and led to the development of OVANOME, the Company's first chemopredictive product.
The ultimate objective of the funded work is genomics-empowered disease prevention. There is considerable evidence that invasive cervical cancer arises from intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and that human papillomavirus (HPV) is involved in this initiation. However, HPV infection alone is clearly insufficient to fully explain CIN, and evidence suggests that ETS exposure is a contributing risk factor. The study funded today will employ DNAPrint's innovative approach for whole-genome screening (ADMIXMAP) to identify gene variants linked to this risk. A successful outcome could lead to a better understanding of the environmental and heritable mechanisms for CIN and, eventually, to the development of new preventative drugs and genomics-based tests.
About FAMRI
FAMRI, a nonprofit foundation, was created as part of the 1997 settlement between flight attendants and tobacco companies to study smoking-related illnesses. Almost five years after the tobacco industry agreed to pay $300 million to start a research foundation in order to settle a landmark lawsuit brought on behalf of thousands of flight attendants, the new Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute has just awarded its first 38 grants totaling $20 million to both individuals and organizations. FAMRI is supported by the Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), which is a 31-year-old national legal-action antismoking and nonsmokers' rights organization entirely supported by tax-deductible contributions.

StockGate: NASD Shocks MarketMakers, Canadian Brokers With Short-SellerRule
Jan 6, 2004 (financialwire.net via COMTEX) -- (FinancialWire) The National Association of Security Dealers has ''drastically'' cracked down on a giant ''loophole'' in its regulations that has led to a North American ''naked short-selling'' scandal known as ''StockGate.''
According to Carol S. Redmond, writing for the Dow Jones (NYSE: DJ), the rule has taken ''most market participants by surprise.'' Some 13 brokers and market makers, including Olde / H&R Block (NYSE: HRB), Charles Schwab (NYSE: SCH), and Toronto-Dominion's (NYSE: TD), TD Waterhouse Group, have been implicated in various media and lawsuits as having a role in the problem.
''We closed a loophole,'' Steve Luparello, executive vice president of Market Regulation at NASD, was quoted as saying, regarding the decision to require its members to stringently enforce the ''affirmative determination'' rule.
''Until now, non-NASD members, like specialists, option markets and foreign brokers, weren't covered under the affirmative determination rule. That means that non-NASD members didn't have to represent to the NASD broker through which they conducted a short sale order that they would be able to deliver the stock by settlement date,'' noted Redmond.
The amended rule will dramatically affect short sales through non-U.S. brokers, particularly Canadian brokers that have taken advantage of the loophole to abuse hundreds of small U.S. public companies, mostly trading on the Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board administered by NASDAQ and their shareholders.
While the new rule doesn't require anything of Canadian brokers, U.S. brokers are now required to assure themselves that Canadian brokers will be able to settle within three days.
Luparello was quoted as telling Dow Jones that ''a non-member's previous failures to deliver should be a
good indication of whether or not it will in fact be able to complete the transaction by the settlement date,'' effectively clamping down on the worst abusers.
''It's taken us by surprise,'' Redmond quoted Richard Thomas, head of compliance at Canadian brokerage firm Pacific International, as saying.
The rule will become effective February 20. It is on the web at www.nasdr.com/2610_2004.asp#04-03
The manipulative trading practice is now being studied by the SEC following the completion of public comments for Regulation SHO, and the SEC has been chided by the North American Securities Administrators Association that it should crack down on the DTC's failure to balance its stock ownership books.
''NASAA urges the Commission to reconsider its stance regarding the role of the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (the DTC). As a threshold matter, NASAA believes that the Commission should explicitly prohibit the DTC from lending more shares of a security than it actually holds. The ability of the overall proposed rule would be severely impared unless the Commission undertakes to implement such a prohibition,'' stated Ralph Lambiase, NAASA president and Director of the Connecticut Division of Securities.
NAASA represents regulators in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
FinancialWire had recently reported that the ''London Stock Exchange has embarrassed the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the NASD with its tough handling of naked short selling involving Room Service (London: RSV). Unlike the SEC and NASD, which have exacted relatively insignificant 'show fines,' but in general have left most of those involved in the practice alone, the LSE has simply ordered market makers involved in the scandal to give investors who did not receive shares their money back.''
Comments on Regulation SHO ended January 5, and may be viewed at www.sec.gov/rules/proposed/s72303.shtml .

I don't recall seeing this particular detail on DNAP's assoc. w/LNA - every thing is interesting/educational w/our co. and in end result adds up, all a part of educating ourselves thoroughly:
DNAPrint Obtains a Supply Agreement on the LNA Technology From Exiqon
2002-08-27 DNAPrint genomics, Inc. announced that it has obtained a non-exclusive right of supply from the Danish company Exiqon A/S to incorporate Locked Nucleic Acid (LNA(TM)) technology into certain of its pharmacogenomics and forensics tests.
DNAPrint kits use small DNA probes to query specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within an individual's genome. The probes contain molecular "addresses" that targets each particular SNP much like a street address targets a postal letter. Most kits made today contain natural DNA; however there are a number of technical advantages associated with using artificially modified DNA molecules instead. The supply agreement signed today enables DNAPrint to use a specially modified DNA called LNA(TM) in the construction of its test kits. Exiqon holds the patent for the LNA(TM) technology.

NIH presents new roadmap for medical research progress
(1 October 2003) The National Institutes of Health is taking steps to improve how scientists translate the huge amount of information churned out in genetics and other biomedical research into practical benefits for patients. "The opportunities for discoveries have never been greater," NIH Director Elias Zerhouni said at a news briefing. "But as we have found out, the complexity of biology remains the daunting challenge."
Ann
More on Elias:
Before his confirmation as NIH director in 2002, Dr. Zerhouni was Executive Vice Dean, Chair of the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, Martin Donner Professor of Radiology, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
A distinguished radiologist, he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine and serves on the National Cancer Institute’s board of scientific advisors.
His own research has led to high-resolution CT methods for lung studies, CT techniques to distinguish between malignant and benign lung nodules, a magnetic resonance method to assess heart function, and eight patents, a well as several specialized imaging technology firms.
His visions for the NIH are to promote multidisciplinary approaches, harness the creative spark of individual scientists and to put more resources at their disposal to meet medical challenges and expedite the translation of basic research to patient care.

Zerhouni's was previously associated w/John Hopkins, before becoming director of NIH:
