mc, green stripe.
It doesn't seem to show up in the ads and pics I've seen, It runs all around the perimeter on the top. Since the material used seems to be semi translucent the green is made murky by the brown kind of showing through. Think swamp gas or algae and you have the color.
I don't know if the black and white models have a stripe. Anyone else?
Congrats on your new puter!
Annie
KC.......go look at one.
I wanted to be fair before I made rude comments about it which is why I went to BB to look at one in person. Big mistake. It looks much better in the ads. That in itself is pretty pitiful as it looks bad even there.
Why BB has a brown one on display I really don't know. If you intentionally wanted to turn someone off to the thing that's the model you should use. Which brings me to my conclusion about how the brown one came to be.
Every now and then I see something so aesthetically poorly designed that I think it must have been a joke. You know, the industrial designer is sitting there bored to tears and comes up with something dreadful on purpose. He does the mock up and all the drawings and presents it, stifling a huge guffaw, to the powers that be for what ever the product is and what happens? They love it. They love it because they have no personal sense of style or design but this designer has a big name and therefore it must be good. It goes into production. It goes onto the shelves. Too often it even sells. In this case no. I think there is a designer, possibly an Apple mole(?), laughing his ass off all the way to the bank on this one.
There could not be a better incentive to buy an iPod over a Zune than to put the 2 next to one another. In BB they are across from one another. Too close for the poor Zune.
Ok, I'm done ranting.......for the moment. But why the green stripe? Has to be a joke.
Annie
KCMW, please don't show me anything with green in it.
I haven't gotten over that green stripe yet.
Leave it to Microsoft to ruin my favorite color.
Annie
Zune.
Well, where do I start?
I stopped by a Best Buy and beheld a Zune. A brown Zune. A brown Zune with a chartreuse stripe. I stood transfixed in shock and awe. Someone thought this was a good idea and someone else agreed. I would like to meet these 2 people because surely there can be no more. I would like to ask them 'why'?
As to the important part about how many they are selling the sales staff was ever so helpful. I asked if they were selling many and they (there were 3 of them, all together, just standing there) said lots! I asked how many lots was. They looked at one another, shrugged their shoulders and replied "I don't know, lots".
So there you have it, proof positive that they are selling lots. Oh, but not many brown ones. I can't imagine why.
Annie
Geeze Tex,
Do you have to make me feel so stupid so early in the morning?
.....sigh.....thanks for the explanation.
Annie
Morford on Apple again....
I love this guy even though he is sometimes just a wee bit excessive......
"When Apple Rules The World
What does it mean when you really, really want to lick a new MacBook Pro, and swoon?"
and........."They have not merely changed the world, they have actually improved it. Oh yes they have.
I ain't talkin' global warming. I don't mean they've solved world hunger or cured cancer or ended racism or muzzled Ashlee Simpson. But I do mean something that, in its way, is nearly as profound: They've managed to make the world just a bit more pleasurable, tasteful, beautiful. They've added a dash of that rarest of human qualities, especially when talking about factory-made tech crap: They have added a touch of grace."

Enjoy,
Annie
Spammy Blue.....hehehe
It certainly is relevant. Comparing Apple computers to other computers helps us figure or guess at where the stock price might go. Any info on Apple the company can affect AAPL the stock. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Annie
Cramer on AAPL,
Much as I dislike the man I did enjoy his Zune "review". It was brutal. To say he doesn't like it is like saying the Sahara has a bit of sand.
He also has stated more than once that he thinks AAPL will go to par. If it does we may hear the S word but do we really want that much dilution?
Annie
Poll,
I'm Keeping track. If I get enough responses to seem worthwhile I'll post the results.
Annie
Board poll......
1. Who wants their phone to be an MP3 player?
2. Would it replace your iPod?
3. If you don't have an iPod would having an MP3 player on a phone sway you to that phone?
My choice is an iPod and a phone that makes and receives calls, period.
Annie
airplanes, movies and way more iPods.
This should spur sales of the bigger iPods as people load up on movies for all those plane trips. But wait, there's more. What about the kids? Only one pod per seat so little Johny or Jane or both will need a new iPod for their own movies. And.....now it makes sense to download those movies. You will have a bigger screen to watch them on.
I like it!
Annie
dilly, thanks. I shouldn't have been so lazy.
I know there are beautiful examples of dry walls all over the world. There are some particularly nice ones in Portugal.
I don't know what Wiki is referring to when it says "regular shape". Those puppies ran the gamut shape wise. Much harder to piece together and much more beautiful.
I constructed a small dry wall many moons ago. Probably more accurate to say I stacked up some rocks. Mine wasn't very pretty and I don't think it would have lasted 20 years let alone centuries.
Annie
dilly, that's impressive.
Probably a really stupid question but are those dry walls or did they use some kind of mortar? Hell of a stacking job no matter how you look at it.
Annie
Coreguy, oh no! I haven't adjusted to the loss of Ed Bradley yet.
Jack was one of my favs too.
Annie
P.S. Who's going to be the 3rd?
OT tomm, and I remember all of those....
unfortunately.
Now, how about some new ihub art?
Annie
tomm...we need new art! eom
roni, prognosticating.
Why quit now? You're on a roll.
Who's our next fearless leader? (As opposed to clueless leader.)
I may vote for Nancy with her mother of 5 voice and the grace to not respond to Bush's totally rude "joke" about drapes for her new office.
Annie
tomm, priceless! thanks eom
bruyerefrere, I just checked Amazon.
In the top 10 electronics the 30 GB black video iPod is number 3 while the Zune is in the number 30 spot. Other iPods in the top 10. If you look at just MP3 players however, Zune is in the top spot with a 30 GB white video iPod at number 3. Numbers 4 5 and 6 are other iPods.
Not sure how the Zune moves from # 30 in all electronics to #1 in MP3 players passing Apple's iPod.
Point is iPods are all over the place in the top 10s.
Annie
lango re: Haggard
The only thing it triggers in me is watery eyes from all the smoke coming from his pants.
Annie
Thank you for the barrel eom
Cider, you flatter me.........
or perhaps you have me confused with someone who knows about puts and calls.
I stick to the really simple stuff when it comes to investing. Limit orders is as fancy as I get.
One of these days when I'm not buried in mounds of fabric I intend to learn something about that foreign realm of puts and calls and maybe naked calls just for Bootz and Heywood.
Annie
Geeze...$79.99.......
What's so difficult about $80.00? Let's see, I'll buy AAPL at $79.99 but $80.00 is too steep for me. Walmart mentality?
Annie
cachet and tomm, I like it...
but I think the PC guy should have lost his shirt
Annie
tomm, re: green
Not really. How about going back to the white body with a portrait in green of who ever it is on the $100.00 bill on the screen? Or just a less muddy green? Or a Granny Smith or Pippin green?
Annie
tomm, you know I love you, but.....
that green belongs with the brown Zune.
Annie
Heywood, lol! It gets worse.
17' long with a hot bottom.
Annie, shaking her head in dismay and fear.
Bootz, and you accuse me of delving into the porn arena?
"My MacBook Pros' bottoms are really hot. (Plural possessive.)"
Annie
dilly, re: slow computer and Activity monitor,
I looked at that but it's kind of like telling me to look under the hood of my car if it stops running. I can open it up but if it aint on fire I'm still not going to know what's wrong.
It appears that nothing is hogging memory or disk space and the slowness is throughout apps. There's about a 2 second delay in opening anything or typing anything, clicking on links, and on and on. It started right after the latest "upgrade".
Annie
dilly, got your Easter eggs right here....
E g g s
Of all the symbols associated with Easter the egg, the symbol of fertility and new life, is the most identifiable. The customs and traditions of using eggs have been associated with Easter for centuries
Originally Easter eggs were painted with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring and were used in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts. After they were colored and etched with various designs the eggs were exchanged by lovers and romantic admirers, much the same as valentines. In medieval time eggs were traditionally given at Easter to the servants. In Germany eggs were given to children along with other Easter gifts
Different cultures have developed their own ways of decorating Easter eggs. Crimson eggs, to honor the blood of Christ, are exchanged in Greece. In parts of Germany and Austria green eggs are used on Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday). Slavic peoples decorate their eggs in special patterns of gold and silver
Austrian artists design patterns by fastening ferns and tiny plants around the eggs, which are then boiled. The plants are then removed revealing a striking white pattern. The Poles and Ukrainians decorate eggs with simple designs and colors. A number of eggs are made in the distinctive manner called pysanki (to design, to write)
Pysanki eggs are a masterpiece of skill and workmanship. Melted beeswax is applied to the fresh white egg. It is then dipped in successive baths of dye. After each dip wax is painted over the area where the preceding color is to remain. Eventually a complex pattern of lines and colors emerges into a work of art
In Germany and other countries eggs used for cooking where not broken, but the contents were removed by piercing the end of each egg with a needle and blowing the contents into a bowl. The hollow eggs were dyed and hung from shrubs and trees during the Easter Week. The Armenians would decorate hollow eggs with pictures of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and other religious designs.
Maybe the bunnies have something to do with fertility
No idea where the bonnets came from other than an excuse to dress up.
Annie
tomm, I'll see your Wikipedia and rise you a Farmer's Almanac.
Names of the full moons:
January Wolf Moon
February Snow Moon
March Worm Moon
April Pink Moon
May Flower Moon
June Strawberry Moon
July Buck Moon
August Sturgeon Moon
September Harvest Moon
October Hunter's Moon
November Beaver Moon
December Cold Moon
Now, isn't this much more interesting than boring ol' Apple stuff?
Annie
Heywood, ssshhh.............
Your post may now turn up on Google and someone will be smacking their head as they create some totally tasteless, rude "fbm" site.
Thank you for the Harvest Moon info. I'm looking up at a Harvest moon right now.
Nice to know that every word or phrase doesn't link back to some porn site.
Annie
oooops, wrong moon.
Next month is the Beaver Moon. I know I'll be sorry for correcting that.
Annie
Hey Bootz, this is October so...
isn't it a Hunter's Moon? Last month was the Harvest moon and next month is the Cold Moon.
I know, picky, picky, picky.
Annie, who's birth month's moon is..........drum roll............the Worm Moon!
tomm, installed 10.4.8 and now the MacIntel is
r e a l l y s l o w.
It was like this when I first got it and then after some update or another it sped up. Now it's back to turtle speed
Annie
tomm, sheesh! What a rip. EOM
KC, even more important.....
it's Window's Vista capable. Never mind that by the time Vista comes out the puter will probably be outdated in other ways.
Give me back the cube.
Annie
Well golly dilly....
How long has that been there? I guess I should check out some of this stuff when I install new versions and updates.
Thanks.
Annie
I thought the 20" looked clunky.
And what must that puppy weigh?
I love my 23" HD display but sometimes I can't find the cursor. It gets lost in all that space. Or could it be my old eyes?
Annie
HMS, re: site, clueless people......
Got me. I'm clueless. But if you want to pick up a few extra bucks you can be a "searcher" starting at the beans and rice rate of $5.00 an hour. If you're really good you could earn $20.00 and hour. Then there's the Amway plan where you bring your friends in and earn a portion of their meager wages.
I wasn't suggesting this was a good idea, just a diversion for a holiday Monday. I was thinking of asking if they had Prince Albert in a can.
Annie
